CHALLENGES: 2040 is the new 2050!
The challenges of the past ten years for passive builders have mostly revolved around experimentation, training, supply chain development for passive building products and education/marketing of passive building to the design/construction/developer community. We now have momentum! Passive building is no longer fringe. This is good news but in the end, globally, GHG emissions are not being reduced at a pace that is required to keep the globe from warming more than 1.5 degrees. Every municipal, state/provincial, federal climate action policy in North America is positioned around carbon-neutrality for the building sector by 2050. The goal post has shifted! 2040 is the new 2050! We have 20 years, not 30, to make carbon-neutral building standard, which means that the challenge for builders is PRODUCTION, not experimentation. We need to SCALE-UP what we have experimented with in the past 10 years. How will each of the builders on this panel take on that challenge?
