- An employee at the Cosmopolitan Hotel in Las Vegas believed that I walked into the hotel with a weapon on my hip, after I repeatedly told him that I was not armed, and only had my phone on me. Please proceed with caution if you intend to visit the Cosmopolitan, especially with everything going on in the world right now. Be safe everyone.

I always say it's how you go about handling a situation that matters most. This guy could have easily said, "looks like you're carrying, it's probably something else, but the hotel wants us to make sure, especially during this time, so we can keep you and all of the guests safe." Something along those lines would have lessened the impact on you, I'm sure. Being Hispanic myself I've gone through similar instances when I was younger. As you know, it doesn't feel good. But you're too good of a guy to let this get you down, Tim. The world needs positive people like you...now more than ever. Don't let one goofball who doesn't know how to interact with people take you down a path of hate or resentment. Stay the course. Keep showing us what Vegas has to offer in the fun way you do. A few years ago, I was with my sister in the cosmopolitan, she was 19 at the time and I was 22, she was waiting for me to use the restroom and a security guard came and harassed her about being out past curfew. She said she was with me and when I came out the security guard told me that there’s a curfew, and I shouldn’t be out with someone who is 19. Like I said this was a few years ago but still, cosmopolitan has always been shady, I think the ones who work there get a power trip or something.
Man! This was so messed up. You're so fortunate that it didn't escalate further. I'm glad it didn't. Let me tell you one thing though, and this may not have registered because like you said, you didn't think anything of it at the time: If someone thinks you have a gun and you know you don't, DO NOT reach into your pocket to pull out ANYTHING trying to prove it. I don't know Cosmo's security setup; if it's a flashlight and walkie talkie situation or if they are armed. But if somebody thinks you have a gun, is questioning you about it, sees you getting annoyed by said questions and you don't know for sure if they are or aren't armed, again I say: DO NOT reach into your pocket to pull out ANYTHING to prove it. If they're official, let them search you or have you go through a metal detector. If they have a gun and think you're reaching for one, they can pull that on you quick and that could be a wrap. With everything going on right now and the intensity of everyone's feelings on both sides, coupled with security being on high alert because of it and I'm sure tying the 2017 Mandalay Bay shooting into it, it's too much. I'm happy and pleased that you're safe and it all stayed pretty tepid. It shouldn't have happened. Sorry this was so long, but it was all in subscriber love. ❤
Sorry you experienced this! Cosmo management should definitely know about this and train him properly in how to interact with guests. Glad you're safe. As much as I love Cosmo, and as great of a time that I have there, I truly hope this was just a guy doing his job and truly thought he saw something. Keep your head up.
So sorry that happened to you but I'm thankful they didn't escalate the situation into even more unnecessary craziness. I'm actually really surprised they didn't radio for security/backup or anything like that. If they think someone is trying to enter with a gun, what exactly is walking next to that person supposed to do to stop them? I'm glad their response was inadequate because you obviously weren't doing anything wrong, but I hope they actually have some sort of competent plan in case a legitimate security issue was to ever happen.
I hope it didn't ruin your night much, I had an incident with hotel security where they threatened to kick me out at 2 am due to a mistaken identity or something (I never really got a straight answer) and it made me feel really uncomfortable on the last day of the trip.

I noticed the same thing. Cosmo always has way more security at the doors than other casinos. Often I walk past 3 levels of guards just to get to the casino. That predates the current troubles and might be related to that freak who committed the Vegas massacre. My memory is too fuzzy if Cosmo was like that before then.
After watching this I agree with you, things could have gone in direction that could have been horrible , thankfully it did not. No one should have to experience something like that every. Just came back from the cosmo today and had a great experience, but that’s terrible how it seems they obviously have a racism issue in their system. I definitely think you should reach out to them and tell them to make this situation right because that’s ridiculous.

Creo The Lone the main reason I put this video out was for everyone, including Cosmo, to hear what happened, and in hopes that it would reach the right people so that it doesn't happen again. After speaking with Cosmo, they've assured me that individuals have been addressed and they are working to ensure this doesn't happen again. I truly believe they took this seriously. However to your point, if this were to happen again in the future, then this video will be a reference of continued actions, and Cosmo will have to face whatever actions may come from it. But again, I really hope this situation and the resolution from it will help to prevent future issues. Thanks for your support! I greatly appreciate it 😎

If the guy legitimately thought you had a gun, he surely would have dealt with you in a more controlled and contained manner. The story you tell is to my ears one of intended harassment. Such a shame I was looking to hear good things from you of the reopening. You’ve always been sincere In your reviews and kind enough to answer my questions about visiting Vegas, I have no reason to doubt your recount of events. Unfortunately, in western societies, certain folks see people of color as a threat. As black men, we go through situations like this. Although things are changing with the protests going on in the USA, some people will still and always see us as a threat. Sigh. I’m so sorry this happened to you. This isn’t the first time they have done something like this. I ignored it, but hearing this happened to you makes it feel more real. As a black woman, I wouldn’t feel comfortable staying there. And wouldn’t feel right giving them any of my hard earned dollars. You won’t say it, but I’ll say it. You should let Cosmo know what happened to you.

Please do not let him or them get away with this. Contact them immediately and let them know what happened. As the others have said, the person needs to be trained properly in customer service. Not only do they owe you an apology, but they MUST offer you something for your troubles. Do not let them get away with the racial profiling and yes, this could have ended tragically all because some employee wasn't properly trained. Shame on them, glad you're exposing their discriminatory practices. It will only stop if it's reported. Glad you were able to still enjoy your evening.

😟 Stereotyping and profiling at its finest! It's a belief of SOME that a different race is this or that and mainly the negative aspects of that race. It's time for them to change their old beilefs and create new ones based on EACH individual, not as a whole, not based on some bad apples. Every race has assholes, bad, evil and good. I, as a Latina, haven't been discriminated against ...directly to my face, but have seen it happen to some family members. My parents (God rest their soul) had this happen to them and it infuriates me to think about these injustices based on the color of skin, different culture and language. No one is better than anyone else, unless you're God. I pray that what has recently happened creates positive outcomes and new beliefs of us "minorities!" I enjoy your podcast I live in Indianapolis and we go through the same type of bs here with some people tripping like that for whatever reason, don't let that fool blow your vibe I've heard other stories similar to yours about the hotel, it seems to be a situation that management needs to address, with all this drama going on in America the hotel needs to take time to train staff on how to interact with guests in order to avoid getting a bad reputation about there staff and how customers are treated before it's to late.

Unfortunately , Cosmopolitan has a habit of being like this toward guests of color. Why would they do this now with all this going on in Vegas and the United States . Since you go to Cosmo a lot, management should be made aware of this. It's ashame that some people let their jobs go to their heads. Take care and please be safe.
