Yea, I started rc racing back in around 1990 with my first car I bought in 1989, a JRX2. Found out I wasn't any good at off road back then, so started running carpet oval. I ran at the same track right on up until it closed 7 or 8 years ago. Started running clay oval and did okay, had fun. I'm 68 years old now, and haven't raced any in over 4 years. Been thinking about going back, maybe trying off road again, which would be a new experience for me. Don't want to spend a ton of money though, since I would probably never get out of the novice class lol. Went and watched a friend of mine race off road and oval a few weeks ago. So....
When I started racing at a real RC track in the early 90’s as a teenager it was “The Old Guys” in their late 30’s and 40’s that gave me the most trouble even the ones I could out drive I couldn’t compete with their budget so they always had faster motors better batteries and newer gear the only reason I was able to hang in there was because I was working at my local hobby shop at the time with my discount and first dibs on certain items now I’m in my 40’s it’s kids that are kicking my butt and I’m just competing with the guys my own age it’s cool though a lot of laid back smack talking l😂 I definitely had my prime when I was in my late 20’s with the plaques and trophies from my local tracks to prove it but unfortunately I had to stop racing in my prime because of work my schedule. I didn’t start racing again until my late 30’s. My driving skills have gotten better than when I was in my teens, no where near me in my 20’s. My reaction time isn’t anything to write home about anymore either. Side note some of those “Old Guys” I raced with back in the day are even older now and still racing they are still faster than me and most of these kids so there’s that 🤦♂️
