Things I have realised by experience while driving in ghats - Both hands on the steering wheel, avoid 5th gear completely (essentially higher speeds) and sudden turns as it is not safe and it causes discomfort to passengers, stick to left most side while negotiating curves (especially hair pin bends), use mirrors (they are not show pieces), advisable to down the windows so that you can hear the beautiful sounds of nature and also any vehicles during day time...
While ascending, when taking hairpin turns on the left you have to use the full right edge to climb so it reduces stress on the engine and gear. This helps with the turn radius too which helps to get back to the left lane easier.

One small suggestion please use maps... It shows curves & hairpin Bends in advance & u can decide on acceleration..

1. That TNSTC Bus Driver did not sound his horn. You were alert so escaped. It is a lesson for all viewers to sound the horn before blind turns.
2. Normally, hairpin bends are negotiated from outer side, then your car won't need to be put in 1st gear. If you observe, you were negotiating the bend from outer side when the bend is towards right so you always went in 2nd gear. But whenever you put in 1st gear, you were on a left bend and were taking the bend from inner side of the bend where the slope is much steeper hence you required to shift to 1st gear.

We went with friends 7 members in ertiga and was very fun to drive. We tried both routes. another one also not flat routes they have many S bends and U bends but vehicle movement is low. Rasipuram route is bus route so, many vehicles. One more route forest route. Locals suggested to not try that route. It's very difficult to find the way. So we drive in flat route while uphill to kolli hills and Rasipuram route while coming home. In hilly rides and U bends uphill and downhill. Opposite vehicles view hides because of A pillar in our cars. In that situation we want turn our head and should see the way through our side windows. Only that's the possible way to find opposite vehicles. But two wheeler in opposite coming is difficult to find out. 4 wheelers can be found. I think near miss of that bus in your video we can see in camera ur vision is obstructed by A pillar and bus is hidden... Better avoid using AC during hillrides. It also big problem in some cars for pulling. And outside sounds can be heared when ur windows are open. But careful with monkeys and elephants 🐘 when windows are open
I also thought the same. A pillar has created a blind spot. Also the bus driver should have horned.
Due to less traffic, we cross 3-4 bends continuously without opposite vehicles, then the driver misses to horn as he got comfortable and assumes no vehicle will come.

The bus encounter- not your mistake sir, ppl who are descending generally should give way for ascending cars.
Heavy descending vehicles should horn so that ascending cars can wait in slope and the heavy vehicles can get the turn correct.
Bus driver never gave an horn while descending.
I drived thin in marazzo in 2,3 gear smooth drive enjoyed 72 haipin bends

It's not advisable to drive the car with cross hands especially at power steering. Please add the downhill if possible because most people burn the brakes without knowing the physics, Good video, My all time favourite place for bike and car

I took my Punch ev with L board in Palani to kodaikanal ghat. Even though it has less hair pins comoared to kolli. But the roads are smaller than the ones shown here..its a two way lots of buses gets stuck on hairbends. It was even more dnagerous than this road. As there is no protection on the sides of the road.
No one warned me when i said im going to kodaikanal..pant la onnuku poga vechirum. That too if it has traffic.
I went wirh bumper to bumper. The next day CM Stalin visited kodaikanal and banned the visits without Pass.
Didnt even take Driving classes.
Just took 8-9 session in Automatic celerio which my friend has..

With EV or AT you can easily drive. Only thing you need to know is the width in small roads. You need to leave way to vshicles if you are not confident and driving dead slow in ghats. As sir said dont look down. I witnesssed i felt dizzy when i saw how much altitude i covered. I made two mistakes in the ghat and i stopped for few minutes..i panicked.

I was wondering why you drive with ac without enjoying nature. But I got the answer later in the video. I had a chance to drive my mini lorry (Tata safari) in 2010. It had a large turning radius and I had to take reverse in 2-3 bends. But it was really fun driving on that worst road that time with high ground clearance vehicle. Now, we have to be very careful with oncoming reckless/ immature/ inefficient drivers which is a big problem out of our control.
