CrazyDutchguy They are realistic but i am not saying that they are completely spot-on. It is hard to get a sound of Tiger 1s 88mm gun right if you dont have a way to record it. I am pretty satisfied with WT gun sounds, still better than those generic shit sounds WoT has.
vavra222 Sure it's hard getting the exact sound of the Tiger's 88 firing right but they could improvise. It doesn't even feel like your shooting a high caliber cannon with these sounds and visuals.
I miss it a lot just was a different time back then you get back from school no stress or problems pop a phly vid and play wt thats why i come back to these vids
Awesome. When my dad joined the Bundeswehr in 1971, this was the tank he got his tanker (drivers) license on. Loving it. When I joined in 2003 I sadly didn't get a tanker license, although I was in the armoured engineers (Panzerpioniere). But I still did drive a variant (Bieber bridge layer) of this tank once at our water training facility. One of my NCO's let me have a go for fun. Thing is quick.
Phly, when you decide to carry less ammo to prevent ammo rack, you need to check at the beginning of the match whether it "works". In other words, does carrying much less ammo remove the ammo hit box or does it not? For example, in the bulldog, carrying 20 rounds vs 51 rounds makes no difference since the huge ammo rack up front will always be present even if you only carried one round into battle. I suspect the same is with the Leopard I. If that's the case, more ammo is always better.
Benjamin Huang I agree with this so much. I used to try to take as little as possible, but I realized sometimes it's pointless, so I stopped. It really depends on the tank
Tang ba There's no ammo in Leopard's turret. Like I said, check whether it "works". There's no point in gimping yourself in ammo count when it does nothing to improve your survival probability. Tiger IIs and M26/46s benefit from the removal of some ammo, whilst T32, Bulldog, IS2/3/4 don't due to either their impenetrable turret armor or the rack simply doesn't disappear.
Benjamin Huang Because the "damage" model is FAKE in War Thunder. The so-called "damage instant replay window" that shows in "detail" how your or your enemy's tank "suffered" from getting hit by a shell is a CHEAP AND FAKE GRAPHICAL GIMMICK too fool you all suckers, when actually they just calculate the hidden hit points in 90 degree cone from point of impact! The WT damage model goes like this: if not bounce, then module / crew - beyond armor effect = damage reduced from the modules / crew hit points which the 90 degree cone touches and if critical structure points reach 0 then tank destroyed. (Some modules are critical and will have almost a guaranteed destruction aka just 1-2 hit points).
My father was in the army, he has so many stories about driving the leopard tanks. (when he was in the army he didn't go to war at that time, but they were ready to)
This is what pisses me off about most tank games, that T54 should have been dead as fuck. You hit him from basically point blank range with a HEAT round near the turret ring. IRL the crew would be on fire swimming in hydraulic fluid.
CptCoward the turret was not angled at all ;) anyway i think they need to fix the freaking is-3 pike nose its not even funny anymore i mean the supposed ''t-10'' should superior to the is-4 and is-3 and it is bloody not with a lower galcies the size of africa
TheJackalPhantom Yeah, maybe he would have penetrated the turret. I meant the pike nose in my previous comment (Phly sounded surprised when he didn't penetrate it).
Goofy It didn't hit any of the ammo racks. Plus, he might have not loaded any ammo in those racks. I've witnessed this stuff happening to tanks of all nations. HEAT rounds in War Thunder do not work right at all, but Gaijin is supposedly "working" on it.
Hey Phly, you wanted to know why they would store ammo in the front of the tank. My grandfather was in the Bundeswehr when the Leopard was first enacted into combat situations, and the belief behind it was that at this point in tank history, just about any tank could penetrate any tank with the high caliber of armor piercing that existed, so the Germans decided that instead of trying the save the crew which was already basically f*cked anyway, they would increase mobility and speed by maximizing the space the engine could take up and saving the turret in the tank was in a hulled-down position. Just a little tid bit :)
TBH i feel that the HESH shells would improve 1-shot capabilities so much in this tank. The Sabot and HEATFS shells just go straight through your enemies without doing much damage whereas hitting weaker tanks or weakspots in certain tanks with HESH would absolutely destroy tanks. Too bad you did not test this though, it would have been interesting.
DER Leopard 1 is all about mobility, because at the time the Germans thought HEAT made any armour irrelevant, better to just run or dig in than take any fire.
21:50 I see that the Po-2 is still 2 OP Seriously though, what a badass dropping a bunch of small bombs directly into the open top of a high tier anti-aircraft .
26:35 I have never seen a shell in war thunder that entered a tank and then proceeded to bounce INSIDE the tank multiple times before stopping. Awesome...
Epic T54's, loved that last round which REVERSED its trajectory after going through your LFP, constant aircraft spam/bombs out of nowhere.....yup, it's definitely Warthunder all right! ;)
The reason the ammo is where it is and why the armor was so thin was because german tank doctrine of the time ran on the thought that armor was pointless because improving gun technology would render armor useless.
At 18:55 I literally could feel what you wanted to say in that moment, respect man I sure as hell wouldn't be able to hold myselfe thogether like you did right there after getting dropped with that kind of crap load.
PhlyDaily do you think you could make a short section maybe as the Dev server goes up on the new sounds for overhead aircraft and the like? Also the Leopard is beautiful just makes the painful high tier grind worth it.
HESH is made from soft metal with an explosives inside and works that the round will hit armor, the metal will splash and the explosive will make shock wawe that is able to go trough 140mm of armor.... When it penetrates it's devastating...
Amazing, this tank looks absolutely beautiful. And to have, arguably one of the best guns in the world, I can imagine how great this tank will actually be! Definitely going to grind for this tank. :-)
It's really hard to play german. I carry only 16 rounds with my panther D and despite that russians don't event need to hit my ammo to light me up. Even when they shoot me on the ohter side of the tank just one little bitty spark flying across the whole tank light my ammo like nothing. When I hit russian ammo I just make it green. To ammo wreck someone I need to carefully aim and hit it twice to light it up. Rarely I ammo wreck somebody on frist shot and when I do it is german tank in arcade. If this does not change, Leopard will be useless
If i remember correctly HESH is meant to do spalling damage, meaning that it doesn't need to penetrate. The fragmentation comes from the armor itself. Please try it out Phly!
It doesn't work properly in the game yet, or else it is and gaijin believes being peppered with spall is a fun and pleasant experience for the crew. It barely wounds them even if all pieces were to hit one member.
Phly, that ammo, will always be there, as there is a ready rack of only 4-6 rounds, as the group, and thought, if you can't take out whatever your facing in 6 shots you need to get the hell out of there, or your screwed anyways. So you can take more ammo.
You hit the IS-3's pike nose at more of an angle than it already was. HEAT tends to not do well at angled armor. Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure HEAT loses penetration the greater the angle.
hey phly when you using the 400mm penetration rounds you dont have to aim a lit bit up just shoot on them..they travel so fast so they wont drop that easy
still a bit less maneauverable as the Panther II !! it had a very good Power to weight ratio and i drive one a few times in german army but in that game it looses much power when use the steering wheel. in reality it was veery powerfull....the 860hp out of its V10 supercharged MTU Diesel made it easy to accelerate and to steer around. Braking out of 68km/h on a road was under 20m i remember, due to its rubber pads in the tracks. soviet tanks didnt had this and should slip around like hell when braking on hard surfaces when driven fast. The gun is good but the shells make low damage. Often you need min. 3shots for a kill but if the enemy is able to shoot back...your Leo1 is in over 90% a 1Hit kill or you have so many failures and a minute of repairtime ...you wont get away. All in All in this game tanks with good armor do a better job....drove it over 200 battles now and over 1000battles with Leo1 in WoT.....same shit but more maneauverable.
instead of battle rating or tiers, what if they tiered vehicles by the eras they were fighting in? That way we would have a more even fight, not only that but it could add the possibility of Vietnam, or modern era vehicles!
U should test the hesh rounds out on ai or something to see how they perform in this early stage of the test server so we can get a better idea on if they r not effective at the moment or if they perform similar to real life.
Moist Potato k thz for the reply. When I saw hesh rounds I got excited that we get new rounds to experiment with but I since they are new there was going to be a lot of problems.
this video is a great example of why i dont like this game anymore. i miss when simulator and RB were separate and i could play tank sim without worrying about planes everywhere. really miss that. :/ it was way more relaxing.
M3 Lees, M4 Shermans, Cruzader, Tigers, Panzers IV and III, Matildas etc all served in the North Africa so ya they will wait to introduce the British for desert maps
I dislike what they've done to the bombers/ fly overs, at first it was more easier to anticipate an attack via air... but now... it sounds almost like a jet flashin past with a stealthier/scarier payload love the leopard-1 but finding out it has all the ammo on the front where ie the Radio operator should be... dayam... game changer/ dif tactics involved.

Those aircraft sounds just make the game so much more immersive. Now all we need is more realistic gun sounds.
CrazyDutchguy They are realistic but i am not saying that they are completely spot-on. It is hard to get a sound of Tiger 1s 88mm gun right if you dont have a way to record it.
I am pretty satisfied with WT gun sounds, still better than those generic shit sounds WoT has.
vavra222 there were some good gun sound mods for wot anyway
Dondolini94 there still is
vavra222 Sure it's hard getting the exact sound of the Tiger's 88 firing right but they could improvise. It doesn't even feel like your shooting a high caliber cannon with these sounds and visuals.
The jag tiger sounds perfect though, you can hear it from the other side of the map!
I miss these days, watching this old gameplay is like seeing an old friend
I miss it a lot just was a different time back then you get back from school no stress or problems pop a phly vid and play wt thats why i come back to these vids

21:42 So glad it turned out it was you in that battle, Phly! Nice to see my Po-2 attack like that! :D

James McCabe Oh yeah, he does WoT, just check.
The box tank SU-100Y.
"What killed the dinosaurs?! ICE AGE!!!!!"
21:55 LOL!
FUCKING Po-2!
heat round hits a person = fine! gaijins logic...
Very nice. I love some of the new sound effects. They're great.
Jim Chamberlin I thought you quit WT Jim.
Nissan U.
No
Nissan U. One cannot quit WT :)
God damn this tank skin is ancient
I'm moving to Finland :D I get a nice preview of the map
My father was in the army, he has so many stories about driving the leopard tanks.

And u know what pissed me off is how this shitty tanks has better reload time than the t62 with an auto loader
Leslie Chow the T-62's auto loader wasn't reliable so the crew usually loaded the gun manually
Heeey flee always nice seeing another video!
That M103 JFK magic bullet tho
why try to pen the pike nose of the is-3 while you can now easly pen there turret from the front LOL
TheJackalPhantom The angle was too high to penetrate it anyway (looked like 500 mm of effective armor or more).
CptCoward the turret was not angled at all ;) anyway i think they need to fix the freaking is-3 pike nose its not even funny anymore i mean the supposed ''t-10'' should superior to the is-4 and is-3 and it is bloody not with a lower galcies the size of africa
When not while
TheJackalPhantom Yeah, maybe he would have penetrated the turret. I meant the pike nose in my previous comment (Phly sounded surprised when he didn't penetrate it).
Berhan Arslan Where is your period? Stop being such a grammar nazi bloody idiot.
Wow suddenly changing engine sounds when they fly around you, NICE, just like you where at a airshow :D
Those new sound effects are 10/10
When fly starts to speak german, you know he's hiped 😄
omg these piston engine sounds make the game so much better now, its sounds badass!
first when i watched this video i didnt noticed that it was me in the panther II lol, nice video i cant wait for the leopard.
Wooo so the T-54 can even survive the Royal Ordnance! And I thought this tank would counter the T-54 problem ;)
18:47 Russian tanks everyone.
Goofy It would be that way for any fucking tank...
Johnny Skinner Yeah sure, molten metal right into ammo rack surely doesn't cause explosion.
***** and American*. I'm a defender of the lower class tanks that are getting bitched by OP German tanks. And you can't change that.
Goofy It didn't hit any of the ammo racks. Plus, he might have not loaded any ammo in those racks. I've witnessed this stuff happening to tanks of all nations. HEAT rounds in War Thunder do not work right at all, but Gaijin is supposedly "working" on it.
Johnny Skinner Yeah sure OP, that's why they get one shotted all the time.

Lol, Im liking CornySwiss doing work in the T-10 in the killfeed.
Good to see the German medium line is finally worth grinding past the Panther D.
Dat laugh @ 4:17 hahah killing me
TBH i feel that the HESH shells would improve 1-shot capabilities so much in this tank. The Sabot and HEATFS shells just go straight through your enemies without doing much damage whereas hitting weaker tanks or weakspots in certain tanks with HESH would absolutely destroy tanks.
Too bad you did not test this though, it would have been interesting.
This map is so freaking awesome ! can't wait to play on it ^^ anyway good vid phly, keep going bro' !
Hey Steve, why don't you ever train your crew members? They improve your tank by a lot
The Royal Ordinance is the greatest tank gun manufacturers, that's why the Americans use British made smoothbore barrels
DER Leopard 1 is all about mobility, because at the time the Germans thought HEAT made any armour irrelevant, better to just run or dig in than take any fire.
Leo-pard? It's a God damn BIG CAT!
Hopefully the leopard wont be slow as balls in the final release.
21:50 I see that the Po-2 is still 2 OP
Seriously though, what a badass dropping a bunch of small bombs directly into the open top of a high tier anti-aircraft .
and 2 years later, the dev server for the Leopard 2A4 is up
26:35 I have never seen a shell in war thunder that entered a tank and then proceeded to bounce INSIDE the tank multiple times before stopping. Awesome...
Epic T54's, loved that last round which REVERSED its trajectory after going through your LFP, constant aircraft spam/bombs out of nowhere.....yup, it's definitely Warthunder all right! ;)
Gaijin physics 10/10
The reason the ammo is where it is and why the armor was so thin was because german tank doctrine of the time ran on the thought that armor was pointless because improving gun technology would render armor useless.
Cornybros, (or Cornyswiss) put this same game up on his dev server vid.
Wow I remember watching this vid when it first came out... war thunder has come so far
The Leopard-1 would star more in a campaign set game, very long range in fuel and
reasonably easy to field repair.
THOSE BOMBS! LOL!
8:45
At 18:55 I literally could feel what you wanted to say in that moment, respect man I sure as hell wouldn't be able to hold myselfe thogether like you did right there after getting dropped with that kind of crap load.
PhlyDaily do you think you could make a short section maybe as the Dev server goes up on the new sounds for overhead aircraft and the like?
Also the Leopard is beautiful just makes the painful high tier grind worth it.
Leo is just like a German M18 at 7.7.
If you drive it like that you will be very successful.
Leopard 1 will be awesome in RB and SB because you can actually flank there
at the end of the next video, say "Everybody hates Chris"
Also the new Hud look cool
HESH is made from soft metal with an explosives inside and works that the round will hit armor, the metal will splash and the explosive will make shock wawe that is able to go trough 140mm of armor.... When it penetrates it's devastating...
Amazing, this tank looks absolutely beautiful. And to have, arguably one of the best guns in the world, I can imagine how great this tank will actually be! Definitely going to grind for this tank. :-)
And now we have the Leo 2a5
Oh how times have changed
And 2A6
I would love to see sandstorms and blizzards and more night maps. we all so need more jungle maps.
While watch imagine little infantery groups walking would be sooo epic
It's really hard to play german. I carry only 16 rounds with my panther D and despite that russians don't event need to hit my ammo to light me up. extrememito Russian bias
You gotta record some low-alt fly by's with some of the jets !!!
I hope they start doing various alternative cold war scenarios. So M60s/Leopards/M47/48s vs T54s and the like. Same in German maps.
So do solid shells bounce around inside the tank now?
Have you seen videos of the Leopard 1 in harsh terrain? It moves a tonne better than it does in game!
Moist Potato
OK. Thanks for the info.

The ammo rack in the M-60 its the best, right in the floor of the tank in front of the heaviest armoured part in the tank
You hit the IS-3's pike nose at more of an angle than it already was. HEAT tends to not do well at angled armor. Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure HEAT loses penetration the greater the angle.
I Was in this custom battle. I was the M6 that rushed the T10 with you
To phly. In the north African campaign the use of m4 shermans and m3 lees were wide spread as well as the cruiser series of tanks
Man how did u get so many Eagles? But great video keep it up
He is using a press account which gives him 24368557 golden eagles :)
hey phly when you using the 400mm penetration rounds you dont have to aim a lit bit up just shoot on them..they travel so fast so they wont drop that easy
still a bit less maneauverable as the Panther II !!

Herr Halter Credible neh, ya' didn't.
knew it! sooner or later, they will have to add the Abrams and T-90 too ;)
No, you hit the IS-3 on the tracks. That is spaced armor technically-- which renders HEAT very ineffective.
Hey PhlyDaily your PC is a little bit loud, isnt it? :D
instead of battle rating or tiers, what if they tiered vehicles by the eras they were fighting in? That way we would have a more even fight, not only that but it could add the possibility of Vietnam, or modern era vehicles!
18:36 the moment when phly knew hes fucked up xD
I really want to so see some large desert maps for rb planes and tanks...possibly some awesome dust and heat distortion effects. who's with me?
Well hello there
This was great! I wonder who were the 6 idiots that disliked this video
i want this Tank so badly :D
That's a sexy motherfucking tank !
You should play the m-60 next then the t-10 to preview all new tier 5 tanks
U should test the hesh rounds out on ai or something to see how they perform in this early stage of the test server so we can get a better idea on if they r not effective at the moment or if they perform similar to real life.
They're not right now, the spall does almost no damage to crew. But hopefully it'll improve in the next dev server
Probably the most modern German tank we will get
M3 Lees, M4 Shermans, Cruzader, Tigers, Panzers IV and III, Matildas etc all served in the North Africa so ya they will wait to introduce the British for desert maps
I liked it because this is some of the worst playing and plans I've seen you implement to date. Thanks for the laughs
Well then. I'm here after 5 years
I was wondering if you could make a video for the HESH rounds
Holy crap his voice XD
So does the Leopard and M60 mean we'll get post Korean War aircraft too, like anything from 1953 to just before Vietnam?
I think they gonna add desert maps with the British Tanks because, obviously, the British fought against Germany in the Sahara
You need to test the leopard's HEAT on the mantlet of a 103, that I want to see
Why is the ammo located there? Wouldn't it be safer to store it in the floor? Or is it easier for the gunners to load it from there?
So it's a tank better suited to rb?
A lot of planes but not much tank
They should do a mode without planes (I think)
They should add more higher tank, like the French AMX for example
i wish they stoped there with tanks, was so fun, golden times
thx for showing us how the new amunition works... :(
you walked into the bombs
6:27 it's cornyswiss lol
I dislike what they've done to the bombers/ fly overs, at first it was more easier to anticipate an attack via air... but now... it sounds almost like a jet flashin past with a stealthier/scarier payload
love the leopard-1 but finding out it has all the ammo on the front where ie the Radio operator should be... dayam... game changer/ dif tactics involved.
I can't believe so many people are bothered by the way he pronounces leopard, not to mention that he's pronouncing it right in that context. If something that minor causes you to become enraged, you need to take a good hard look at your current situation in life.
