    I think medicine is best suited for those who really can’t see themselves doing anything else, due to the sacrifices involved with such a career. If you are going back and forth between medicine and engineering, then engineering may be better simply due to the benefits in lifestyle.

    I love how in engineering one is able to apply problem solving, innovative, and creative skills. Plus the work-life balance. But Im scared of being stuck to a computer for the rest of my life. In top of that I lack math skills, but i’m good at picking up new programming languages. I love learning new languages and programming feels the same. However I love medicine because I want to help and save ppl. Plus i will be able to connect with them, which I really like working with ppl. Also for some odd reason, since I was a kid I have always loved hospitals. However, i’m someone that likes to see immediate results after completing a task and im scared of studying for over 10 years.

    I am a doctor who studied engineering first. It was very hard learning medicine as a hard science person I used a different part of my brain. Looking back now, I saw the transformation of medicine from a field where most people were self employed to now where most are employees. This is very important and for those who are unsure may wish to ask themselves how important autonomy is to them.
    Remember a physician is essentially a technician and today is driven by algorithms and whose nature of his job is totally dependent on technology. Conceptually an engineer is a thinker who puts concepts together to solve problems. One field satisfies an emotional need and the other an intellectual one. If you are interested in money as a guideline, go into dentistry.

      Hey, maybe this comment will help you.
      So I wanted to do meds, but I really enjoyed maths and physics. So maybe you can find yourself in my perspective.
      I liked things like gaming, PC's and nerdy stuff when I was in first and second year engineering. So I thought I liked maths more and engineering is like only maths.
      So I looked at doing meds and I mostly wanted to do that, to make more money and have a great title. But then I thought, engineering also make good money, you are much earlier done and again technology. Technology is so broad. When you are 30-40, years old, you can talk about the nerdy stuff in your car, in your house, you know that awesome hue setup or your great isolated house.
      Meds is really long and really stressful when studying that long. So that's also one of the reasons I choose engineering.
      Also, biomedical engineering is also something you know. Great mix, I am a mechanical engineer!

    Never become a doctor unless you want to gain happiness by ruining your own life….
    This is one the most underpaid and hectic branch . No work life balance in most cases . And you can end up being in a better position financially and mentally if you put in half the amount of struggle required to become a doctor ,elsewhere.

    • @hannankhan5589
      @hannankhan5589 Год назад +1

      @@lamaundefined you have to look at the pros and cons of both the situations. Engineering is a field where the learning never ends. You use creativity to deal with every situation different. Medicine, for the most part, is more about memorising and utilising that information. Yes, medicine requires some creativity too as every patient is different but you can’t really experiment there, it’s living-breathing humans vs non-living objects on the other side. Secondly, you look at honour. If you seek honour, there is no other profession more honourable than being a doctor. Everyone holds the doctor in high praise because he aids you in times of need and pain. Engineering is a thankless job. People are always going to try and find faults in what you do and at the end of the day, the most you’ll get is a pat on the back and a handshake. There’s high levels of satisfaction in both but doctors generally have a better status in society. Third, money. If money matters to you, being a doctor is a better option. Engineers can get rich but only very few do. Doctors are usually richer because they put up with so much, they deserve it. It, however, varies from country to country. Doctors earn more in the West. In Asia and Africa, the salaries aren’t as good. Furthermore, you can get a good post abroad easily as a doctor as compared to an engineer (software eng excluded). Moreover, there’s study. Doctors have to study and pass exams over a longer duration of time as compared to engineers. If you want to be a doctor, you need to keep in mind 10-15 years of study. The first 5 are the toughest, after that it just becomes routine. There’s a lotta information you need to absorb so it takes time. A human is a delicate creature so it’s fair to warrant such a high level of study. Engineering is harder but shorter. More maths involved. You solve problems. Problems take time but generally, if you’re good at maths and problem solving, you won’t be stuck in a rut. You’ll make do easily. Engineering requires you to think on your feet so a lot of stuff you learn on the job. Lastly (this is the most important part) do what you actually want to do. I’m doing medicine because after considering all the options, it’ll allow me to branch out to others fields if I want to. I’ll have good pay, I can go abroad and settle easily and I’ll be able to help people. Sure, I lean more towards engineering but if I do well as a doctor, I can pursue those passions too. I can always go into another field that way and if it doesn’t work out, I’ll land right back in the job I had before (easier said than done but you know what I mean). If you do what you like, you’ll never have to work a day in your life. In the end, you always have to remember, it’s your life. You’re going to be old one day and you’ll think to yourself, did I make the right choice? If you did what yr brain suggested and your heart wanted then you’ll always be at ease. That’s the whole point. Something that no amount of money in this world can buy and that’s ease. Money can’t buy happiness, it only buys comfort. A big house is nice but what’s the point if you dread having to wake up for work every single day? Be smart and don’t think mindlessly. If you want to stay in your country, see what the situation is like. If doctors are rewarded, opt for medicine. If engineers are rewarded, pursue that instead. Above all, do what your heart wants. I always wanted to be an Army officer but the army’s been disgraced in my country and I don’t want to spend the rest of my life here anymore. Hence why, I want to be a doctor. I’m following my dream. My dream’s pretty vast so I can’t say I just want to do one single thing haha. Long story short, see what’s better for you and your family. Your choices should be in fairness to you, your family and your community. If you chose something for yourself, go the extra mile doing it so you may never think you chose the wrong field. Personally, I’d say the future of engineering is very interesting yet unpredictable. One of the principle reasons why I chose medicine was this “not everyone’s looking to buy a car or house but everyone’s going to get sick”. Long story short. Do what you wanna but make an informed decision. Don’t take anyone’s word for it. Your choices define you. The consequences shouldn’t. Hope I helped clear the air a little! (If you wanna move to America, be a doctor ;)) )
