- Resident Evil, to this day, is without a shadow of a doubt the most well known survival horror franchise in video game history. It's not even a competition. The roots of this evil sprouted from the seeds of 'Sweet Home,' a horror game on Nintendo's Famicom console in the 80s. Those roots continue to spread deeper and deeper across the world even now, heading into 2021, on the back of the upcoming 'Resident Evil VIII: The Village.' This video complies all five of my 'The History of Resident Evil' installments into one colossal, binge-able movie, which runs over 4 hours long. DanDans, this is a DECADE OF DECAY. Ada's seeming death in Leon B, especially the way Leon spasms in pain and literally screams her name as the place begins to explode, is still one of the hardest emotional moments in the series. And takes place during my favorite RE game to this day.

A lot of people love and adore outbreak, and what I’m seeing from having watched this, is that capcom themselves dropped the ball, failing to properly market and hype both file 1 and 2. Guarantee if outbreak released TODAY, where multiplayer is bigger and better than ever, it would sell incredibly well
That's EXACTLY what happened. Capcom basically marketed outbreak as on online game.

I also first played this when I was 6 at my buddy Tyler's house and remembered every single puzzle to this day-- but what also really resonated with me was the Keeper's Diary because the day he turns into a zombie is my birthday May 19 haha As a 6 year old so invested and scared shitless in the game I felt like it was a scary ass omen or some shit 😂

This was a “history of” that I thought to myself at first back on 6-16-2020 “do I really need it?” But when I watched it, I learned a whole lot of this franchise. I have heard about it but never played any of their games, my brother on the other hand loved these games. He bought the original ps1 trilogy on the ps3, and when he introduced me to resident evil 4 for the GameCube, I fell in love and when I heard it was coming back for PS4, I bought that shit quick and played it all again enjoying every second of it like it was my first time again. Thank you so much Ian, for another fantastic “history of” and I can’t wait for the Halloween one in 2021.

While growing up I never felt like anyone I knew appreciated resident evil like I did so I was never able to talk about the series with anyone. But my friend loaned me the Res 1 GameCube remake a few years later and I absolutely fell in love with the Res Evil franchise. The suspense, the terrifying moments, most of all the puzzles, it’s everything I still love in a videogame

Absolutely loved this retrospective, along with all the other ones you've done. I was 8 years old when the original Resident Evil came out and I certainly miss those days. Experiencing the original trilogy for the first time again would be nice, but playing them back then is why I love the series to this day. Resident Evil 2 from the PS1 is my favorite of the series by far. I love the personal commentary you add, I have a lot of the same nostalgic feelings. Just wondering, have you ever considered doing a retrospective on Castlevania or Metal Gear? Hey. HEY! I dig your work. My younger brother was 4 when he walked in on me playing Resident Evil 1. I had just rented it from Movie Gallery, the manuals gave NO warning of the monsters I'd be facing, and when the hallway zombie turned to face me, he just happened to witness it and ran screaming from the room.
I laughed my ass off at him, teased him with zombie groans...thing is, I was 11 years old, and I had nightmares for months -- hearing the wet, sloshing footsteps as I tried to sleep. He got the last laugh. Love ya Nic.

4:06:40 Ian, I completely understand, I went through the same thing (moving away and parents divorcing) and I did the same thing (except for me it was RE2, GT2, CTR and Smackdown 2) the escape from reality into the games were what helped me through it too. And now some 25 years later I’m doing it again with all the medical shit I’ve got going on in my life right now (5 operations in 2 years and another 4 operations still to go over the next 2 years) I’m throwing myself back into games to get through it only this time it’s WWE2K23, COD MW trilogy, Forza, and the RE Remakes.. and I’m dusting off the PS2 to play the original RE games as well. So I feel your pain, I know it well, and I really feel for you.

We had a PS1 hooked up in a tent in my garden during summer holidays. We used to play RE2 till morning hours, it was super scary. Just like you and many others we still talk about Resident Evil series and we can't wait to play Village. Fantastic video watched it in full. A ''Silent Hill History'' would be super cool.

Ok, I gotta tell ya. I had missed the last couple episodes of the masterfully done series. So this week I took some PTO to paint the inside of my house , so I decided to just watch this video while I was painting. I was painting at the pinnacle of my ceiling and then I hear from across my living room, ("I heard so many repeating lines of dialogue I heard my dad shout down the hall.... GOD DAMN I HOPE SOMEBODY FINDS SOMETHING!") I laughed so hard I got half dollar sized spot of gray paint on my white ceiling, and you know what? Im considering keeping it there so every time I look at it I can remember to tell all my friends about 616Entertainment. Whether you meant to or not you have literally left a mark in my life.
