    Got one myself same as yours and a 88 model also a 2015 800 the viffer is a perfect bike ridden over the last 35 years over 200,000 miles time after time always come back to the honda vfr built to last and that v4 is a joy.

      Awesome Andy! My favorite was the 2001... Fi interceptor, last of the gear driven cams. Never should have sold that bike, might get one again if the economy survives :) How are you liking the 2015? I must admit getting one of those has crossed my mind more than once, very similar styling to the 5th Gen.

      Hi sorry for the delay getting back to busy at home serving my vfrs !! due to lock down here in the uk the 2015 model is the best one i have had very compact and smaller than the model before i took one for a test ride soon as i clicked it in gear let clutch out with in 3 miles my mind was made up .Very smooth handles like its on rails v tec is vey smooth as well you have to rev it a bit more than the 750 models but in real world riding you don't get into 3 figure speeds very often i know we do !! Ridden every model of the vfrs every one is great well i have 3 of them so it says it all go have ago on the new model and c for your self i think you will come back with a grin on your face . Every vfr is like a well worn glove jump on it and its perfect i think you will agree had a kawasaki sx 1000 before i got the 800 model i did not like it one bit found i was riding my 750 vfrs more than that !. Had sx a year came back from a ride wife said you not happy with it said no she new what i wanted so wife booked test ride for me on the new 800 model well rest history did not buy a new one bought one 3 yerar old with 2000 miles on it that was almost 2 years ago its now done 8000 miles so you can tell i like it.Soon as lock down is over will be out for a very long ride,ride safe bud go take a test ride on one let me know what you think.cheers for now Andy.

    I rode the 97 and decided I wanted a VFR and was overjoyed that I picked up the 98 model which was named bike of the year. I think without any doubt that the 5th Gen was the “best” model of the VFR.

    • @counter-steer

      I have much love for the 5th Gen VFR! I put many miles on mine, probably about 20 years ago now... the Fi throttle response is a joy for sure. There’s just something about the styling of the 4th Gen, purely from a visual perspective that tickles me. Feels a bit more nimble in the twisties as well but I might be imagining it.

    • @counter-steer
      @counter-steer  4 года назад +1

      Hi Eric. I loved my 800FI so can’t say anything bad about it... the throttle response from the FI is better than the 750 and no issues with tuning carbs. That being said the 750 feels more agile / sporty and I love the styling. I’m looking to get an FI as well (keeping the 750) if that helps... I honestly couldn’t decide between the two, they’re both great.
      If you need a daily commuter and workhorse keep the FI. If you ride for fun... go 750. Then again, if you have the space keep the FI indefinitely, you’ll miss it for sure.

      Did a 6 week tour in South Africa with a 95 VFR750FS with a mate. He had the 2000 VFR 800FI [he is a better rider than I am]. He kept begging to swap bikes after about a hour on the road and then I had to virtually bribe him to get my own bike back. For real touring, the carburetor model is smoother and more forgiving, the fuel injection model is a bit digital [same with cars], and the ride position for some reason more forgiving on long rides [you don't need an orthopedic surgeon after long mileage]. But again, different strokes for different folks.

Also looking at a 95 vfr750f right now if you get this, what do you think if it needs a new battery, starter, and solenoid? I would like to either do full restore with upgraded forks like from newer CBR1000rr and ohlins for the rears maybe newer race brakes and fit some Toce pipes too, or a cafe racer of the sort rooted in performance and the principles of the vfr750. A beautiful video!!! I have been in the market for a VFR for moths now but I'm so torn between the 4th gen. RC36-2 and the 5th gen. It literally robs me of my sleep. I just can't decide. I love the retro "testarossa" look of the 4th gen much better than the looks of the 5th gen, but the 5th seems to be a better bike in general. Fuel injected, lighter, narrower seat (I'm not very tall), more power, etc. I'm not so sure about the linked braking though. I honestly don't know which one to buy :(

    • @counter-steer
      @counter-steer  2 года назад +1

      Thank you sir! Having owned and loved both, I have some thoughts on the matter...
      Being on the shorter side myself, I found the 4th gen lighter and more nimble. It somehow feels more... special. I know for a fact I'll never sell it, unless I physically don't have space for it.
      The 5th gen is a great bike and I had lots of great times on it but the ride itself was a little muted. Feels a little bigger, slightly more torque and the throttle response for blipping the accelerator was great, but less power and agility overall. Less of a sense of occasion if that makes any sense? The linked brakes never bothered me though, not even on sandy patches. The rear brake gets the brunt of the pressure when using the rear brake.
      The truth of the matter is the best one between the two depends on which bike's in better shape when you physically buy it. (and then the 750f2 will be cheaper.) Parked next to each other in same condition for the same price however, I'd ride off on the 750 f2. Carbs are fine if you fire the bike up once in a while... haven't had any issues the last 5 years.
      The prices for the 4th gen are also outrageously low right now, if money is a factor. Probably a victim of it's own success as there's still a fair amount of them around.

    • @counter-steer
      @counter-steer  2 года назад +1

      I think I've figured it out... the 750f2 draws me back to the days when the VFR was a race bike (Rc30), but this one's got touring ergonomics. With the 5th gen they split up their stable, with the RC51 and CBR getting the handling / fun side and the VFR being focused more towards touring.

    • @mementomori4972
      @mementomori4972 2 года назад

      @@counter-steer Thank you for your assessment! Money is of course also a factor for me. the 5th gens are aprox. a third more expensive in similar condition to the 4th. I am from Austria and I love touring on twisty mountain roads. My current bike, a CB500, is grate in its own way, but just can't deliver the torque for the tight uphill turns. It was always a bit of a struggle, trying to keep up with my friends who ride more capable bikes. It is just not siuted for touring. I'm keeping it as a daily driver but need something else for the long days in the saddle and the occasional miles on the highway. Now that i red your reply, I'm drawn to the torque and throttle response of the 800 but also to the nimbleness of the 750. I know my way around the mechanics of a classical motorcycle. Never had to pay a mechanic, besides for changing the tires. I know how to clean carbs, but can't really say that I enjoy it in particular...Well, you gave me something to think about. Oh boy,...another sleepless night awaits me...

    • @mementomori4972
      @mementomori4972 2 года назад

      @@counter-steer Just red your second comment...thank you! The RC36-2 would be the best of both worlds, so to speak. I just don't really quite understand, how the 5th can be lighter, have more power, but seem bigger and less nimble at the same time? Is it the suspension or the geometry and seating position?

    • @counter-steer
      @counter-steer  2 года назад +1

      I hear you… weight’s technically the same but the body’s quite a bit wider on the 800 because of the dual side radiators. The power delivery, has more horses but feels more linear with the injectors. It’s hard to explain why to be honest but it feels slower. Maybe in the same way a Blackbird seems slow at high speeds because there’s very little drama and the power curve is… for lack of a better word, linear. Like slowly cooking a lobster as opposed to coming out of a air-conditioned hotel in Vegas and getting hit in the face with 100 degrees ;p
      Talking about the 800 made me miss it now, you honestly can’t go wrong either way :) Find the best example you can. Or buy both!
