Helen seems to have changed her mind. Only months ago she got involved in an argument about preferred pronouns and told women who said no one should be using them that they were going against freedom of speech ideals. Now she’s telling this bloke he shouldn’t be using them.
I’m glad she now understanding the issue properly and realises when people are being cancelled for not using them it’s not a free speech issue it’s a coercion of speech issue that’s is what she should have explained along with the fact it promotes these men using female only spaces.
You’re misunderstanding what she was getting at when she said “But you’re willing to say ‘she/her’” and “you don’t have skin in the game.” She’s talking about why *Keegan* said what she said about “transwomen”. Helen is saying Keegan said that because she doesn’t want to offend. Helen is not actually policing Kevin’s speech here, she was just responding to his question about why Keegan said what she said re: “transwomen”.

@@slacktoryrecords4193 she’s used the exact same explanation and argument that women saying you shouldn’t use preferred pronouns use to explain why people shouldn’t use them. She has done a turn around and now is the one telling people they shouldn’t use them. I’m happy that she’s now explaining why but she’s forgetting she accused women who used the same argument of being against freedom of speech. Go and read her tweets and watch her say it on a couple of panels - she said it. She was sticking up for Andrew from GB News who used preferred pronouns for Hayton on his show. ( He doesn’t usually but instead of explaining why it happened which he eventually did, he doubled down - it was a train wreck) She’s now changed her tune.

As a woman, I disagree profoundly that pregnancy and childbirth are "...the main point of a woman". These are physical capacities that most women have for the fertile phase of our lives, but childbearing must ALWAYS be a CHOICE for all women. It certainly does not define us, and a woman who does not become a mother is as much a woman as one who does. But all women have 'XX' karotype sex chromosomes, and everyone who does become pregnant and give birth IS a woman. No man can do this. Some so-called 'transmen' have done it, because they are NOT men, not male and are in fact trans-identified females.
I love Helen for calling out Kevin on his hypocrisy here, I think Kevin's generally a good bloke, but he is trying to have his cake and eat it with his stance of _"transwomen are male but I'll still call them she/her."_

@@penfro Gender-critical women must not give an inch to the transgender lobby. A trans-identified male remains a male. If you are too polite to use the pronoun "he", then use "they". We must never, never be 'kind'. "She" is a pronoun for biological females only.
Gillian Keegan as a (presumably) biological female who is willing to give ground to transgenderism is very much part of the problem, and as for Kevin O'Sullivan, it was so good to hear Helen Joyce calling him out for hypocrisy. If he sees himself as an ally of women, he needs to change his pronoun usage, and fast.
I was staggered at how incompetently Gillian Keegan performed in that Radio 4 interview. No wonder it took her so many years to come to the position of saying ‘I will not call a transwoman a woman.’ She doesn’t seem able to comprehend the basic facts of the debate, even still. Granted, it wasn’t as politically expedient to deny that trans women were women even just a year ago. I however have reached the point where I think that ‘trans’ isn’t even a real thing. It’s just a maladaptive coping mechanism for some people.

@@dyoung1492 Be my guest! The human psyche is a wild and unknowable place, but there’s just no way that humans have evolved to have been ‘born in the wrong body’. The very few people who identify so strongly with the opposite sex that they believe themselves to be in fact a member of the opposite sex, have many factors in common - perhaps they are on the autistic spectrum, perhaps extremely gender non-conforming, perhaps had homophobic parents, perhaps were sexually abused as children, perhaps lost their mother young, or had a very domineering parent…. the list is endless.
We have seen throughout every single moment in history, the vitality of language. Language is power. Literacy is power. In the past, they'd cut out your tongue. Now they rob you of your language to tie it for you. It's all wrapped up in the fear of 'unkindness' they have instilled in everyone. Oh, what's a small thing like a pronoun to you? Be kind and use the ones they prefer. Oh, what's a small thing like a sex safe space to you? Be kind and let them use the space they prefer. Oh, what's a small thing like women's rights to you? Be kind, shut up, and allow them to take them from you.

Absolutely. There are no transwomen, but there ARE trans-identified males. Furthermore there are no transmen. These are trans-identified females. Biological sex is established at conception and is immutable. Female is not a feeling (and neither is male).

Kevin isn’t helping by meeting them halfway. Using the term ‘trans woman’ is problematic, as it contains the word ‘woman’. We absolutely must not feel obligation to agree to preferred pronouns whatsoever. Not at all.
@@mrlawilliamsukwarmachine4904 Helen is right when she tells him he has 'no skin in the game'. Clearly language is a powerful instrument in legitimising social practice. As she points out, if women call trans-identified males "she" and "her", they will think we are consenting to their invasion of our spaces. Kevin can be 'generous' in his attitude because it is not his sex-based spaces that are being taken over.
