Also - your coffee temp offset aligns well with where Lance Hedrick tested and set his in his review video. So I don’t think your tastebuds are off - seems about right to what I’ve researched. I’ve been very keen on this range of machines then went on another research route for competitors but am back here again researching the Ascaso range so I think I’m pretty well set now - appreciate your videos, thank you.
Good to know, I love Lance! :-) If you are in the market for a new machine, there aren't many better options at this price point! I love that you appreciate my videos - you have no idea how much that means to me! If you have any more questions about the machine or anything else, don't hesitate to ask me (you can also DM me on Instagram if you prefer that).
Nice video. Would you be so kind and tell me two things? 1.) Do you hear that water is dropping back during the extraction into the water tank? 2.) And how high is the pressure on the gauge during your extraction? Because the coffee is coming out of the portafilter very slow. Therefore, I assume that the pressure is quite high during the extraction or, in other words, the OPV is working all the time. Or are you able to set the grind size to an optimal setting that you have around 9 bar. Thank you!
Thank you! 1. No, I don‘t hear water dropping back during the extraction - only if I grind too fine (so when it‘s overextracted the pressure can get too high and then it‘s dropping back! 2. I have the OPV on 11 bars and its constantly showing 11 bars while pulling a shot - I grind very fine :) Und deinem Namen nach kannst du Deutsch oder? 😁 Ich habe auf Englisch geantwortet, damit andere auch von deiner Frage profitieren können, bin aber selber aus Österreich ☺️ gib mir gerne Bescheid, falls ich dir noch irgendwie weiterhelfen kann!
Seems odd to reverse the switches, down for on, up for off? Odd! The machine can be a bit noisy during a pour. I like the programmability of this machine!
Hi - can you control the temperature of the water outlet? (Not the shot or steam) Also - go for it with your own voice as per the comments on the last video. You got this Luke!
@MrDistracted hi! :) As far as I know, there is no way to change it. If yo want me to, I can measure the temperatur coming out of the water outlet (with a thermometer in a cup). Regarding my own voice: I will do that soon, thanks for encouraging me! I know that a real voice sounds a LOT better, I am just a little "shy" I guess :P
@@LukeMakesCoffee Thanks Luke - yes I'd be interested to know how it compares - I assume it will be similar (same?) in theory to the shot temperature. If I was making a Long Black (like Americano but better imho🙂) and wanted to use the water I'd rather it not start out at 90+ degrees. Obviously I can use a separate kettle/boiler, but was just wondering about keeping it all within the same process at the coffee station. Thanks.
Hi, I've just tried it: The water coming out of the group head has exactly the same temperatur as the water coming out of the water outlet. The water coming out of the water outlet is pretty much perfect for an Americano because the water does not end up in the cup at the temperature set at the PID - it cools down as soon as it comes out. The temperature that the PID shows, is not the temperature that ends up in the cup, but only the temperature of the water directly at the group head. I hope that makes sense :)
Yes that makes sense. Thank you so much for confirming. I’ve been right around from Ascaso and all the more major brands to Quickmill in a similar price range, as I got excited by the Pop Up but although it has potential for easy flow profiling it totally misses the other ease of use home feature of a volumetric or timed shots. Don’t understand why they missed that and now I’m back at Ascaso which has everything I’d like in my next machine except profiling, but since I never done that anyway I can’t say I’d miss it either! Thanks for your help!
Hi, yes I do! For some really light roasts I sometimes even tried to go up to 8.0 and 9.0 and it worked fine! I feel like the stock temperature shows AT LEAST 6-7 degrees too less but from what I've heard it varies from machine to machine...
Hi my friend! You can set it to 208 and it's exactly the same! It just looks better, when it's showing 200-201 fahrenheit instead of 208 as this is the temperature you want. But you can leave the offset as it is and just set the temperature to 208, you are absolutely right! :) I use this basket: amzn.to/3W81UBG - it says that it's for 15g but it fits 17 grams perfectly (and this is absolutely enough for me :) )
Thanks so much for your response. I bought the plus for my wife for Christmas and am trying to dial it in for her. I had no idea how much goes into that process but it’s been fun finding resources like your channel in the process. Thanks for your help! Do you find that filling a basket more than the recommended dose is better for this machine? Your extracted pucks look better than mine. Mine are coming out moist and leave much more cleanup than yours. I’ve been using 18g in an 18g basket. Should I try 19-20g instead?
Oh great, the Steel Duo Plus looks awesome! If you don't do already, try to use a puckscreen! This should help to get a "cleaner" less moist puck. I used an 18g basket before and it worked better with 19-20 grams - so yes, try to fill in a little bit more coffee and/or use a puck screen! :) This puckscreen is very cheap and perfect: amzn.to/3BWwozM
Pre-infusion refers to the process of gently soaking the puck of ground coffee in your portafilter before applying the full desired brewing pressure - the pause can help to spread the water more evenly but it‘s still a pre infusion, even without the pause :) the first 5 seconds water is soaking the puck without applying pressure
Thanks a lot! You are totally right - I have to use my real voice in future videos. I am not a native english speaking person, but my english should still be good enough to deliver my thoughts :)
Nice shot of Espresso in the end 👍🏼
Thank you :)
Very helpful, thanks!
Maaaan I love your cat in the beginning 😁
Thank you! :)
wow i didnt know that making the perfect espresso could be so complicated 😅 but well explained, thx!!

Good job. Thanks 🙌
Thanks a lot! 🫶🏼
Finally I know how to adjust the OPV 😂
This cat😻😻😻
His name is Willi and he said „thanks“ 😜🥰
That espresso looks delicious! I adjusted my OPV to 9 bars today as I wanna try out if its different
Thank you! Let me know how the change affects your espresso shots. For me, 11 bars work just fine!
@@LukeMakesCoffee sorry for the late answer - I turned it back to 11 bars.. couldnt really notice any differences
I needed to know more about the offset, so this helped me! My shots are also sour 🙈 i will try to use higher temperature
Try that! And also grinding finer could help!

Now that you say it - it IS odd! But you get used to it after using it 2-3 times :)
It's a great machine with small quirks!
Oh can you make one now using the milk… the wand only has one whole and it’s a bit difficult to get used to… got any tips?
Hi, I made a video, showing how I make a flat white: ruclips.net/video/AdhsytUb77s/видео.html

Hi, do you still set offset to 7.0?
Hi, yes I do! For some really light roasts I sometimes even tried to go up to 8.0 and 9.0 and it worked fine! I feel like the stock temperature shows AT LEAST 6-7 degrees too less but from what I've heard it varies from machine to machine...
Ahhh thats why my shots are more on the sour side.. will try to use higher temperature
Why not just set the temp to 208? I don’t get the point of the offset. Also, what size is the basket you’re using in the video?

If you set the preinfusion pause to 0, you are essentially brewing without preinfusion…
