  • When icy conditions arrive in Sheffield, Streets Ahead, on behalf of Sheffield City Council, treat the road network by covering Priority 1 and Priority 2 routes across the city.
60% of the highway network is gritted in priority order including the main arterial routes which link Sheffield to other major cities and motorways and other main routes, such as bus routes, link roads, roads where key public service facilities are located, and rural routes.
Streets Ahead also clear snow from the city’s busiest pavements and pedestrianised areas, for example around the city centre, hospitals and main retail areas.

How do I find out where my local grit bins are?

Fire engines are unable to pass through due to parked cars on either side of the road and fire men left postcard sized notes under windscreen wipers regarding this. I emailed Sheffield City Council twice to suggest having parking grids set into grass verges as seen on other roads but I never heard back. We have no car parks in the area and I really think people should be able to request these to avoid drivers churning up the verges and leaving a muddy mess behind
