This video saved me an urgent trip to the repair shop! I actually drove with it this way (dash display dark) and didn't discover that it wouldn't turn off until I parked. While I called the mechanic, my friend found your video. I decided to drive home before trying your trick. Interestingly, the display came back to life before I got home, and then the car turned off ok without having ever done the magic sequence. But I will know what to do next time! BTW, can you give more detail on the capacitor that needs to be replaced?
My dash lites are working. IM getting the key sign on the dash. But this DOESSNT WORK I am tired, I wanna go to bed but I cant lock my car 2017 Prius V
Here: ruclips.net/video/E3HKhahufCA/видео.html, there are two capacitors, one is for the dashboard and the other one is for engine not shutting down properly. I have changed out both bad capacitors and now my Prius 100% working without any problems.
This, as well as other issues, happens constantly with my 2007. I finally made a little laminated chart with all the fixes I need to use for the various electrical issues it has!
Your video is to-the-point and accurate for what was going on with my 2008 Toyota Prius. Thank you.
You're welcome!

The capacitor that is within the dash, it's a common problem with this 2nd generation Prius. I will try to make a video on that soon.
Are you pressing brake while pushing on/off button?
Yes
Any video for capacitor replacement? For dashboard display sometimes don't turn on!!!
Coming soon

Thanks, it worked - any thoughts on why this happened and should I expect more of the same in the future?
Yup, this 2nd generation Prius have a fail capacitor that's inside the dashboard and need to get it replace with a higher one.

@@macdaddypimpping so you mean fixing the dashboard light issue and replacing it, should fix the shutting off issue for good?
By what it wouldn’t turn off? What’s the reason?
Capacitor in the dashboard going faulty or bad.
