It is now 12:06 I feel as though I was surrounded by angels as I listened to this hymn. Trust in the Lord with all your might all the time... Praise God amen
A cappella singing is total worship, in the composite of men and women with sopranos, altos, tenors and basses, singing in psalms and hymns which teaches us the very verses of the Bible. To sing in one of the 4 to 8 voices (1st and 2nd soprano, 1st and 2nd altos and so on) is a gift from God to praise Him. Not only the Church of Christ, but also the Mennonites, the Amish and the Hutterites or the Anabaptists. It seems as if the singers mentioned in the OT congregated in the said churches, alas, yes even the musicians separated from the singers into other churches. We are being entertained rather than worshipping in song, psalms and hymns. I have sang in the Lutheran Gemischten chor or mixed choir with said 1st and 2nd voices in soprano, alto, tenor and bass. This is the kind of worship God wants of us. We are souls with individual gifts with voices that participates in the role God has set for us. Let us encourage one another in the love of Christ. Let us all present ourselves to God "just as we are". Praise Him!
Instrumental Music is forbidden, under our beliefs in Christ. The new testament clearly states that god "Allowed" Instrumental Music in the Old Testament, but you are to worship with your voices melding together as one, in your heart; meaning instrumental music is an affront to God, who wishes only for the pure tones of your collective voices. Additionally according to this same passage, we believe that the songs that we sing are for God, not man; so no matter how well or poorly we sing to our own ears, in the end God praises the effort if we approach with a humble heart of worship. Also, we don't have a choir in the Church of Christ, because if we had one it would be the entire church, but we don't, so it's just brothers and sisters singing as a whole faith.
Any other Harding College//University students here? I can't help but wonder what the late Bible teacher and Gospel Preacher, brother Jimmy Allen would have liked this adjustment to this great hymn. I would like to know. I love it this way.
It's not about the song, and whether we enjoy it or not; The command is to praise god with our songs in hearts of praise. As long as there is honor to God, it matters not to him if it sounds like a cacophony of sounds to us. To him, our blended voices are perfect, just as they are.
I believe this year, like every other has been a costant lesson. For it was said by my church congregation at the outset that our theme for the year was "Blessed to be a blessing", and yet, I have my by own merits, failed so miserably at blessing even one soul. I am not worthy of such a blessing and even less so as I cannot pass it on. May God, forgive those who are worth so much more than me; and if by any chance anything remains, let me then receive what is for me to be blessed by.
In the transition from 'Just as i am' to 'I come broken' the last note of 'Alto' has a fermata, I believe. I'm rewriting the score and it wouldn't fit at all without that fermata in the last note of 'Alto'
Pray to the Lord to stop and help settle your temptations. Dont be hard on yourself and put faith in God. Ask for forgiveness and pray pray pray. You will overcome whatever you are being tormented with. It isnt you it is the Devil.
