I did basic training and ait at Fort Jackson in 1985. Victory tower was my favorite. I was in delta company 9th battalion 2nd training brigade 1st platoon. I still remember it like it was yesterday. That's an experience you'll never forget. I was only in the reception area for about three days before we started basic. I love watching videos like this to see just how much things change and/or remain the same. Welcome to the Army family. Stay safe. No mission too difficult, no sacrifice too great, duty first.
My son just left today for Columbus MEPS to fly out tomorrow for Ft. Jackson and watching your videos has helped a lot with me dealing with him leaving home for the first time.
I Ship out 8/13 and you’ve helped me understand what’s to come in one video. I’ve watched quite a few and yours was the only one that helped! I need everything to process in the 4 days so I can start the following Monday. My BIL is graduating from his leadership course that same week and all of our family will already be there 😬
My Son left from Dallas on Tuesday for Ft Jackson.. he left Meps at 11am, flight was supposed to leave Dallas at 5pm. to Atlanta, then by bus the rest of the way.. . flight was 3 hours late into Atlanta, they got there after midnight, and the busses that were supposed to take them 3.5 hours to Ft Jackson had been called off, so he and 50 other recruits just slept on the floor in the middle of the Atlanta Airport.. They finally got word about 9am that busses would arrive by 5pm..... luckily they got picked up by about 1pm, and arrived at Ft Jackson by 4:30 on Wednesday... Needles to say it was a long 24 plus hours of travel.. Phone was turned off right at the reception area at 4:35pm, and as of today (Saturday), it hasnt gone back on, and we haven't heard a word from him.. Hopefully he'll get to make the "I made it to BCT OK" phone call tomorrow...
These videos have been extremely helpful to my fiance and I as we have been preparing for our Army band auditions. I ship out (tentatively) on 30 June for BCT (I am also going to be a tuba player) and am very excited for this next chapter in my life. It has been great to see someone's perspective on the musician side of the Army. Thank you, and I look forward to your red, white, and blue phase vids!
Leaving June 23 for Fort Jackson! Super nervous because I’m an oldie. Your videos have been super helpful. I would love to see videos about the different phases!!
Hi Abby Weaver, my name is Kyndal. Hey Abby, I saw that you are in the Army. I am a big fan and a big supporter and prayer warrior of the soldiers. Hey Abby hope you won't mind if I tell you something. I would just like to tell you "Thank you for your service" I appreciate all that you do for our country. You have my total support and you will be in my prayers. God bless!! Support and prayers, Kyndal
No, it’s ok! Somehow the knowledge that things are still the same in many ways is oddly comforting haha. I can’t wait for the video about AIT, because I know that’s WAY different.
I remember the 38 hour day pretty well, You went to Columbia, I went to Atlanta (which makes no sense) then we got off the bus, got smoked in the blood room (where you got your shots) then ate at the DFAC (yes at 2 in the morning) then went to the bays to drop our shit off, then did medical stuff and I fell asleep in the hearing booth, and thought the holes in the wall were m&ms. Then finally went to sleep at 2200. I believe I had firegaurd that night too.
@@danielmayor5695 My husband just finished in May 2020- he got 8 shots total, but no one got the peanut butter shot and he was very happy about that lol
I remember I had to get the bicillin shot on my day 2 at Fort Benning. It really hurt because the medic literally stabbed us with it. Every guy was walking weird when we got it.
I’ve been trying to figure out for a long time. Is it maditory to get the peanut butter shot???? Or can everyone get a pill? You said everyone takes a pill?? If that’s true it would be so much better. Army 2020 is what the question is for.
I have a question. You said that during fireguard, you’ll be up with your flashlight. Do you have to bring a flashlight or will they be provided to you?
Hello first of all thank you for your service! My daughter is in her 3rd day of reception at Fort Jackson my question is with all the adjustments in place because of COVID-19 I was told there's no gas chamber, shark attack etc is this true?
Did you see anyone pass out or almost when they were taking your blood during medical? Did they still let them through? I don't actually pass out but I get alittle woozy and it happened at meps and they were okay with it I'm just wondering if basic they'll be the same
Question: Showers! I heard as a female you have to shower in front of others. No privacy and someone will definitely see you nude. Are there partitions? Does this happen in BCT? I heard you have to undress in front of others and will not have any degree of privacy? I am terrified!
With the sports bras I heard that they're the champion ones, a girl in another video said if you bring your own and as long as there's no brand logos or anything on them they'll let you wear them still. Is that true??
Like I said- I talk about the underwear situation in my red phase videos haha. Every company will be different on what they allow. But definitely avoid any big logos.
@@rebeccamunoz3284 Yep! Unfortunately, my company was really strict on "civilian" underwear. Even if the lining was a different neutral color, it was a no-go.
What did you do with your phone? I'm told their gonna take my phone? I don't wanna lose it, lol. But, I wanna be able to communicate during the travel over.
You will have your phone to travel and through reception. I had to stay at reception for a 4 day weekend before actually shipping to BCT. They took our phones for the long weekend and then returned them to us before shipping. Once you get your platoon etc, you'll turn in your phone in a plastic bag and it will be locked in a room in the sleep bays.
My cycle was actually the test group for some new running shoes from San Antonio Shoes. They were awful and gave a lot of people issues like shin splints. Hoping they returned to issuing New Balances after that fail.
It shouldn't be a disqualifying factor but I believe you need to have two forms of identification, so if you don't have your SSC, take your birth certificate. I took my drivers license, SSC, birth certificate, contract, and a voided check for my direct deposit. I don't believe I ever *used* any of these but I had them in one folder just in case. If you don't have your SSC, you DO need to at least know your SS number. Double check with your recruiter on this information. If you don't have your SSC, you can easily order another online!
This made be TMI but did you ever get your period during basic training? Would they give you iphrophen if you needed it? If you did get it was it havier then normal? Sorry if this is a little TMI but I heard people never getting theirs or it was extremely heavy.
It’s a valid concern! I can address the medication specifics in a video, it’s different for everyone. I got mine in reception and then didn’t have another until AIT.
My company was super strict on cough drops but I’ve heard other companies are okay with them as long as they’re sugar free. I had a terrible cough that I ended up having to go to sick call for so I would say sugar free plain mint cough drops! I always kept pocket tissues on me- even if you don’t have a stuffy nose they can come in handy for cleaning eye protection and what not. Hmm, you will be allowed to have pictures also! We just had to show them to our drills, so if you want any pics of family- that was a nice comfort for me.
Abby Weaver that sucks, when I get nervous my blood pressure shoots through the roof. I got held back at MEPS the first time because of it hopefully I’m all squared away when I ship
They didnt take it for me before I shipped out at meps , they also never took it at bootcamp . But if you go to sick call or dental in bootcamp that's when they take it .
For sure! It’ll depend on how active you were before basic, I was running a lot and weight training 5 times a week so I saw more of a physical change than a change on the scale. I’m going to be making a video about how I lost some weight and physically prepared for BCT!
Why in God's name do you need 12 shots unless you haven't had any during childhood but shots are not compulsory in civvy life so why don't you even get told what crap they are pumping into your body!
@@jacobhernandez7962 She said they didn't say and in addition if some people get numerous shots at one time it is not good for the body and it will overwhelm the immune system and it can trigger anything from mild side effects through to severe ones or trigger secondary reactions leading to a number of life changing and sometimes even life threatening diseases...Everything in America is full of toxins so what's new! they control your body and your mind in the armed forces so you can't have an opinion ... of course you know the 12 potential jabs but everyone i have spoken to has said they are not told what ones they need or what ones they are given! that way there is no comeback if the person becomes ill as you sign your life over to them and blindly follow orders!
