    I guess basic is a little different than when I went through Jackson along time ago. Got out as SSgt. They kicked and chewed our asses, repeated CS attacks. No MRE's....we had C-Rats. My tip to a recruit, keep your mouth shut and your eyes & ears open.

    • @theAngryMilkman1249

      I also went to Fort Jackson in 96, through RUclips I've found videos of recruits or active Army ncos drill sergeants. And the things they complained about seems so trivial....i laught!

    Best thing to do is not to quit during basic. Fastest way to go home is to graduate, otherwise you'll become a hold over and stay longer than your fellow recruits. Been in over 6 years, reenlisted for 3 more years and 1 tour to Kuwait and Iraq. Ammo Dawgs!!!

    • @AbbyWeaver

      SO TRUE. Quitters (and injuries, unfortunately) pretty much sat on the sidelines for the entire cycle. A few of them got to go home just before graduation but a few were still there after I left!

      I think a higher level of maturity was super helpful to be able to take a step back from all the nonsense and see that there is a reason behind the way you're being treated etc. Also- you've probably been out of the house or at least spent time away from your family at this point in your life, for a lot of the younger kids that was a realllly difficult aspect of being at basic training.

    What’s a decent female run time for the first run assessment for women who want to be in the top tier in pt?

    • @AbbyWeaver
      @AbbyWeaver  4 года назад +3

      Top tier in PT? They sort you into lanes to facilitate the run portion of the test so that the grader on that lane has trainees that will all finish around the same time. The lanes don't actually count for anything. "A good run time" depends on your gender and age. If you're a female running a 12-14 two mile, you'll probably be in one of the faster ability running groups.

    • @jmariehudson
      @jmariehudson 4 года назад

      Abby Weaver I appreciate the reply. I’m a bit of a pt stud so I appreciate these details so I can make my goal of maxing the pt in basic training. Just trying to gage the effort level I should do for the assessment run since my current max mile run is approximately around the 8 minute mark (woman / 31 yr old). Just want to keep up with the young folks

    • @AbbyWeaver
      @AbbyWeaver  4 года назад

      @@jmariehudson I was around 8:45 on my first mile assessment and 7:45 by the end of basic, I moved from lane 14 to lane 8 I believe. Our company had an "advanced" group for PT, they got to wear jerseys and do extra stuff with kettle bells, I can talk all about that in a separate video. But they determined who was in that group by if you could do a leg tuck or not along with passing the first APFT, I'm pretty certain. IDK that every company will do that, just run your best. With an 8 minute mile at 31 you're probably close to maxing, for me at 24 it's only a 15:36 to max.
