I’m Australian and I’m addicted to videos of people who visit here! I lived in Melbourne and I am from Sydney. Sometimes forget how cool our cities are and it’s so fun to see people see them from a tourist’s perspective 😄 love the enthusiasm!
Melbourne in my opinion is the worlds best city. I can't believe you guys only stayed for 1 day. Thats not enough!!! There is so much to see. Melbourne is often underrated compared to Sydney but there is so much more culture in Melbourne.
Thanks for taking me on tour of my own city, pre-COVID 😎 Glad you enjoyed it so much. One day in Melbourne isn't enough though. You'll have to come back someday!
So happy you got to finally visit Melbourne! I find it interesting how different cities across the world can be pronounced so many different ways. I've always pronounced Melbourne "mel-burn" and I'm an American but a co-worker pronounces it "mel-born". Beautiful city! I've been amazing since watching your #oneyearworldtrip at how you and Peter found such amazing hotel rates and the places you visited are even more amazing!
G'day I am from Melbourne and I thoroughly enjoyed your walking tour of my home city. I remember visiting the Fitzroy Gardens when I was at school many many years ago haha and it was a pleasure to see the Tudor Village and all the monuments again. Loved your perspective on our great city and so pleased you enjoyed your visit to my country. Hope to see you both again soon.
Great video, can’t believe you covered so much ground in a day. But I was seriously laughing as you walked straight past some of the best sights in Melbourne 😂 State Library.. hope they check out the reading room. Nope. NGV.. hope they check out the stained glass ceiling in the Great Hall. Nope. Feeling hungry? Walks right past Movida, one of the be best tapas bars in Australia. 😂😜 You really need to spend some more time here.
This is great! Only thing that made me sad was seeing you eat at Aldi rather than eat out at a restaurant in one of the food capitals of the world! It would have been more expensive but for one meal it would have made your experience unforgettable!
Love your waking tour of Melbourne CBD as a melbournian, saw many things I've never seen before as well. When you mention surprisingly that Melbourne is a city of 5 million people but with lots of parks, it's because Aussies don't consider the CBD (or the 'city of Melbourne') to be seperate from the suburbs in regards to being part of Melbourne the city. For example suburbs like Frankston, 40 KMs South of the CBD, Dandenong, 40 KMs east and sunshine, 20 KMs north west of the CBD, are all included in that calculation of Melbourne having 5 million people. But we do have lots of parks throughout the whole city, which is one of the wonderful things about Melbourne.
I moved to Melbourne from Sydney and (try to) visit the USA every year, adding 1-2 new states each visit. I spend 2-4 days in each different town/city I visit, walking around and seeing all the stuff I can see, especially stuff that locals do to get away from tourists! Getting alongside locals who are willing to show off their personal favourite things about their home city or town is *such* a great way to see stuff. I'm glad you seemed to enjoy Melbourne so much. I'd love to see you all come back and do videos from spending a week or month here!
Very glad you visited Melbourne and had the chance to see how great it is. Sydney seems to be the more visited city and although it is a fabulous city Melbourne has a lot to offer too. Great video of my home town.
lmao at you eating the cucumber! I'm the same with wanting to get out in it 1000% and Bettie is more likely to need to crash out, leaving me wandering around new countries we visit by myself haha
13:19 You are so right! And this is the absolute beauty of travel! I'm on country 66 and nothing opens your eyes like the world! Glad you enjoyed my country too btw 😉🇦🇺
James Cook landed in Botany Bay in 1770... so, yes... he sailed to Australia. In fact he charted the east coast of Australia after he circumnavigated both islands of New Zealand.
This was my 1st Happy Hoppe video I saw about 6 months ago (I was interested as my brother lives in Melbourne - I live in the UK). I am now back to this video having started watching your round the world trip from the beginning! Love you guys and your videos and looking forward to watching the whole series to the end. I would absolutely love to follow in your footsteps and travel the globe 🌍
Oh wow! You watched from Canada and Alaska!?! Awesome 👏 glad you are enjoying our travels! Thankful we took the opportunity to travel when we had the chance ✈️♥️😊 Enjoy the rest of our travels :) you may catch up to my vlog releases as I’m still editing the remaining 6 weeks of this epic year 🌍
Wow guys, I live in Melbourne and we are currently in lock down. So much fun watching your video and so happy you enjoyed our home, Wonderful to see an outsiders perspective during these difficult times. Please come back as soon as possible I will take you to some great spots myself.
hi just came across your trip into Melbourne. I realise you have well and truly left Oz but a bit more background..James Cook is probably known as the greatest surveyors, he sailed and mapped most of the Pacific, circumnavigated New Zealand and sailed the east coast of Australia. It was Cooks voyage that led to the British sending the First Fleet and European settlement. WE are VERY proud of our military history, conscription for overseas service is against our constitution and our forces in WW1 and WW2 were volunteers (mostly and that's for a another discussion) and served this country very proud, we remember their heroism with pride, which is why you see so many war memorials throughout Australia. To understand some history this read history of Anzac Cove, Tobruk and the Kakoda Trail...just to name a couple. Looking froward to what you think of my home city..Sydney..
Not quite. The AIF in WW1 was a volunteer army, despite the government's attempts to introduce conscription which were defeated in two referendums on the issue. There were several periods of compulsory military service, including during WW2.
the bridge on the river kwai, thats a classic, we do have quite a few war memorials in our ,many parks and gardens....you would probably learn a bit about the ANZACS
my dad was in New Guinea in ww2 and my grandfather was at Gallipoli (turkey) in ww1 his brother was killed in France. We grew up learning the history of these conflicts
Crickey! You sure did walk around a bit. Being my town, I see and recognised where you have been. It's any wonder you were tired. I hope you enjoyed your short visit.
This is the first video of you guys I've seen (yesterday). I seriously wanted to jump through the youtube screen and say, NOOOOO!!!! You can't stay in Melbourne city and not visit so much of what Victoria offers. I found myself imagining picking you both up in my car, and showing you all the fantastic places and drives around the state. :-)))
Hi Happy Hoppe, the nice Church you pointed out in the beginning os the video was actually the old Melbourne magistrates court, glad you enjoyed Melbourne
The railway was worked on by my grandfather. He was part of the 2/40th Australian infantry battalion, unit Sparrow Force. He was taken prisoner of war in February 1942. He worked on the Burma railway and the bridge over the river Kwai until they were completed in March 1944. He was then sent to Fukuoka in Japan where he worked in zinc mines until the end of the war. Fukuoka is 60 miles from Nagasaki. He saw the bomb. He ate maggot sandwiches to survive. He was one of many. Learning the history of the places you travel to is one of the most rewarding things we can do.
I hope you loved your time in Melbourne it looks like the only 2 things you missed was seeing the Tennis Center (Rod Laver Arena) where the Australian Open is played and the mighty M.C G (Melbourne Cricket Ground) where the A.F.L is played Aussie Rules Football and where International cricket is played they only other thing is you should have spent 2 or 3 days here because you did miss a lot more hope you both are safe and having a great time where ever you are cheers
good video ,i probably wouldnt have watched this if we were not in lockdown, and we even have a curfew........but its nice to see what people think of Melbourne, good on ya guys, take it easy.
Royal Exhibition building is where our first federal Parliament sat. Its a historical site for more than one reason. And Captain Cook is the navigator who discovered Australia, a new continent.
700 American POWs were there too, slaving alongside the Brits, Aussies and others. The Burma Railway is part of your history too. On a lighter note, I am loving seeing my home town through your eyes.
@Nati man so many lives broken and taken by the war. my grandfather was a technician in the RAAF he returned to Australia when they were freed but my father never met him and my mum's father was a marine he came to Australia in 1942 and then the marines left and went to the battle of Midway, after the war he returned to America my mother never met him.
Regarding language... I'm Australian and some years ago went on holiday through Europe for a month. I was surrounded by the many languages of the countries I visited. Fortunately most people I encountered also spoke English (and I made do with my bad, limited French and German). However as I boarded my Qantas flight for home, I heard a steward speaking in his Aussie accent, and I felt a well of emotion. It was so nice to hear my own accent again after so long.
I hope that you both did enjoy your brief stay in Melbourne. There is so much to see and do, but a five star effort for the miles you both trekked on foot and especially after a long flight and being clearly jet lagged. God Bless.
We really enjoyed seeing a snippet of Melbourne!! We enjoyed seeing the park-like, city setting and the little things you pointed out (free tram, trash compact, etc.) Fyi: it was a WW2 (not WW1) monument ~ in case you're making scrapbooks, etc. Kudos for 13 miles on little sleep ~ amazing!! :) Aunt Tracy
Guys it was so refreshing to see you guys experiencing Melbourne (my home city) for the first time. I've always wondered what it would be like coming here as a tourist and experiencing the city. It feels like I somehow virtually wandered in the city during lock down. Did you guys visit southbank (literally the other side of the river from where you guys were in the footage at night time - south bank is pretty at night)
😆 yeah, we grabbed what we could without thinking much! Aldi is great! We didn’t have any in Colorado, but do now that we are in Indiana 😁 I guess you could call us #aldinerds 🤣
You saw the state library but didn't go inside! D: The reading room is so incredibly beautiful. EDIT: and ACMI - there's a free exhibition inside there as well where you can try different technologies.
It's really nice to see Melbourne through your eyes . I'm glad that you liked our city . Maybe next time when you're here , Do the Great Ocean Road as well and when you are well rested LOL . Anyway , Thanks heaps for sharing your experiences .
Yeah, we didn’t explore too much of Australian countryside. Once we got back from New Zealand, we explored Brisbane and Sunshine Coast too! Would love to come back to explore more 😍
Is that the massively graffitied area with the building murals? Was the rose mural for Bon, @Bon 75 ? This looks like a great city that I'd love to experience! ❤️
Hi.. yes AC⚡DC lane is the graffitied walls you see 2 big paintings of Malcolm Young on the wall I think they are for Mal but not 100%. Melbourne is a beautiful city and Australia is a very amazing place
That's weird about your wifi access from the hotel. I live in the outer Eastern suburbs of Melbourne, but (before lock-down) ingrequently stayed in hotels when the trains have broken or I have a long day at work. Wifi has always been free (well, included in the daily room cost). Anyway, thanks for visiting. You seem to have enjoyed it.
Sometimes inforget how good Melbourne is, and i lived here all my life! I just walk past the things that tourists appreciate, gotta just be a tourist in my own city 😊
Glad you got to experience Melbourne before Covid19, its pretty sad coz i live 60 kms south east of the City and, me and my closest friends would regularly travel their for the Food, Sports and Nightlife, easily one of the best cities in the world. If you guys come back to AUS you should check out the Gold Coast, its Australia's Miami
You do realise that the frequency of trams in Melbourne is quite high and so you probably wouldn't have to wait too long for a tram. Yes Captain Cook did travel to Australia.
Jacinta Edwards we have some of the best towns, like the silo art in st James, violet town etc, but the lake up in Mulwala, even Gibson or Mt Macedon, even Apollo bay absolutely stunning there
Please don't take this the wrong way but the USA is quite unique in that nearly all your media and education is so American centric that it is no wonder that the majority of Americans know nothing about the rest of the world. I am so glad that during your world trip you are able to experience different cultures and world viewpoints and events.
I get to travel vicariously through your videos. ^_^ It's great! I just pop open my laptop and think "What country do I want to visit with Lisa and Peter today?"
Oh that’s so great 😀 makes me so happy to hear 🤣 ❤️ if you’ve not checked out the playlists yet, that’s another good place to go because I have many of the countries videos grouped together, so you can watch the country adventures day by day 🥳🥳
I heard a real Bronx accent for the first time. There were about 5 of them, looking at the street. I was about to welcome that to Earth when I realized they were saying that a 6 lane highway was a road... "Yeadaddzarod"...
Cucumber is Anytime weight loss food. No carbs you poor love. Pub meals are the bestest recoop food venues in Australia.. You guys were right next door to the Great Ocean Road. Plenty of people who would put you up for free between Warrnambool and Portland. Such a great area, Aboriginal middens and fossilised Forest. P.s. if you miss the city tram, other free tram comes by every 10 or 15 minutes
Thank you for asking about Cookie. We are part of the Commonwealth. This means we were discovered by captain cook and overrun by the British ruling. In my town, the first white man to have charges for murder of a native, was in 1918... still have a long way to go with a treaty, closing the gap and reconciliation. There is a calling for sovereignty.. It's very similar here, to what's happening to first nation native Indians.. Meanwhile first nation people are losing a few more of their sacred sites.. There is much spirit in this land, so fantastic to see you both taking that part of it in.
Just so you know, Australians do love the American accent so I assure you that what they stated they really meant. I loved your reaction to our beautiful city but I also remember having the same reaction when I walked out of LAX airport and realised that I was in America, which was my dream.
13:20 that seems to be something far more common for Americans than other countries. Lots of times speaking to American they just don't know much of anything outside of America, hell some forget that there is even a rest of the world exists
Y'know how Columbus "discovered" USA? Cpt James Cook "discovered" Australia in the same way. He also "discovered" New Zealand, and most of the Pacific Islands including Hawaii.

Hi.. yes AC⚡DC lane is the graffitied walls you see 2 big paintings of Malcolm Young on the wall I think they are for Mal but not 100%. Melbourne is a beautiful city and Australia is a very amazing place
@@bon7572 Thank you so much! I can hardly wait to visit! ❤️
Your welcome
Yeah, weird, ACDC have zero connection to Melbourne......
1:25 That used to be the Magistrate's court, now part of RMIT University.
Yes, we visited there after New Zealand :) Gold Coast was an awesome area!
You do realise that the frequency of trams in Melbourne is quite high and so you probably wouldn't have to wait too long for a tram. Yes Captain Cook did travel to Australia.
You should of went to the eureka skydeck
"You should have gone to the Eureka Skydeck" Cameron!!!!!!
@@KRW1612 I've been to the eureka skydeck
Damn u guys should’ve gone to Torquay and bright, u guys missed out they r the best places to go in Melbourne
Yes very picturesque towns. I am so proud of my home state Victoria. The rest of the world orobably doesn't know how specoal it is but I certainly do!
Jacinta Edwards we have some of the best towns, like the silo art in st James, violet town etc, but the lake up in Mulwala, even Gibson or Mt Macedon, even Apollo bay absolutely stunning there
Agreed, The Victorian high country, Torquay, Ballarat, Wilsons Promontory, Dandenong Ranges, Silo art in the Wimmera, Queenscliff to Sorrento ferry,
They probably didn't realise they were visiting the city rated number one in the world for the past several years.
Haha! "The Energizer Bunny ran out of battery."
Yup 😆🐰🔋🙉🤣
What are you guys doing l wouldn't walk that' far lmfao cheers mate 👍😁
I'm pooped just watching you two, I would have needed to eat more than a cucumber to do all that walking you did. 😂😂😂
😂 yeah I don’t know how we did it 😂
Please don't take this the wrong way but the USA is quite unique in that nearly all your media and education is so American centric that it is no wonder that the majority of Americans know nothing about the rest of the world. I am so glad that during your world trip you are able to experience different cultures and world viewpoints and events.
Yes, it was so great to learn so much as we traveled ❤️
I get to travel vicariously through your videos. ^_^ It's great! I just pop open my laptop and think "What country do I want to visit with Lisa and Peter today?"
Oh that’s so great 😀 makes me so happy to hear 🤣 ❤️
if you’ve not checked out the playlists yet, that’s another good place to go because I have many of the countries videos grouped together, so you can watch the country adventures day by day 🥳🥳
when are you two super beautiful persons going to visit us again Melbourne miss you... God bless
Who knows 😂 we'd definitely love to!
Wow thanks you for your rely
The cucumber and hummous was an acceptable improvise!
Read up this Cook guy,,, 😂😂😂😂😂😂
😂🤷♀️ traveling definitely makes you more curious about history 😊
Happy Hoppe You'll be surprised . He was over your way in his day.
Trivia: Captain James Cook of the Endeavour was the inspiration for Captain James Kirk of the Enterprise.
Tacit Dionysus I didn’t know that . Cheers
It’s a brilliant city!
We loved it 😍
Melbourne right now is dead no one is walking around you should have a look at some footage taken :)
Why did you stay only one day? Where did you go next?
I have a playlist for our whole one year trip, but here is the one just for Australia: ruclips.net/p/PLPHEqKWkXSm3zPtcupb5dvG6yliJL1sOl
Wow. I saw my sisters apartment in this video.
That’s awesome 👏
How you going. You sound funny.
"$6 for a donut?". Yes it's expensive, but wait until you find out about our ludicrous house prices 😁
Melb was the world most liveable city for close to a decade
Shane Heff I know The Eureka has the best view of the city
Etihad Stadium is now called Marvel Stadium, you should of went to the Old Melbourne Gaol & the MCG.
You missed the Shrine? Commented too early.
Aussie Aussie Aussie
Watch The Railway Man with Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman to learn about the Burma Railway.
You wouldn't compare Melbourne to your hometown?
One of the reasons why Melbourne was the most livable city for 6years
that wasnt a church, its the old magistrates court
That "church" is the old magistrates court.
Y'know how Columbus "discovered" USA? Cpt James Cook "discovered" Australia in the same way. He also "discovered" New Zealand, and most of the Pacific Islands including Hawaii.
Ill be anal and technical here. He only discovered the eastern part of Aus
Re Captain Cook... think Christopher Columbus
