      It's not hard on them. Mares are literally born to foal. In the wild herds, they are usually bred every year. If she's got a decrease in soundness, an aging mare or if a pregnancy is particularly difficult she may rest them.

    • @lord0jackostar
      @lord0jackostar Месяц назад +2

      In the wild, mares would be pregnant as soon as the foal is on the ground, simply because that’s when they go back into heat. Most mares will be fine with repeated pregnancies and, providing the feed is available and sufficient, a mare can support both a pregnancy and a foal reasonably well until the first one is weaned sometime around 6 months old. Once the foal is weaned, they don’t have that much to do with their mother outside of normal herd interactions; horses don’t really do an extended family connection in the way you’re describing. Herd mates are similar, but thats not really based on biological connections so much as it is area specific or temperament compatibility. Similarly, weanlings and yearlings can breed from their first heat, whether they are physically ready or not. Breeders won’t usually breed a young mare at her first heat, for the same reason we don’t recommend teenage humans get pregnant before their late teens; but animals don’t really think like that.
      Health issues can cause problems with repeated pregnancies, like Beyoncé’s current leg problems; which is when horse breeders will give the mare some time; but that’s purely from an animal welfare standpoint, not necessarily a natural outcome without intervention. In the wild, they would breed regardless. Same with inbreeding and close genetics, breeders will keep track and not breed close relatives; a stallion will breed the mares in heat in his vicinity, including his mother, sisters, and daughters if he’s controlled a herd for long enough.

    Do you keep horses just to breed them and sell? Seems like you just continue to breed your horses one after another with no breaks. Also when you had the two boys you didn't seem to happy. I wonder if that's because then can't give birth like the females. Just curious. I guess i never really see you ride them or interact with the animals you keep unless they are giving birth or brand new babes.

      She owns a breeding farm. The goal is to intentionally select proven mares and breed them with proven stallions to improve the quality of future quarter horses. So yes, she breeds quality horses and sells them to good show homes where she knows they will be well cared for. She has the ability to breed horses that others want and may not be able to get otherwise. Mares were made to have foals and she has said that you can tell they enjoy having a job, some even are sad the years they don’t have a baby. She interacts with her animals daily, they are extremely well cared for and she does ride, but she hasn’t in a year due to a knee injury. She has multiple geldings, some are in training. The Farm does not have the facilities to keep a stallion and geldings are great companion or riding horses but cannot do anything to further the breed so it doesn’t make sense for her to have a ton of them.

    She's not a bad girl...she just is very sensitive and has a harder time. They hear your tone. Be kind.

      These horses have plenty of feed, water, and care. Don't correct someone who takes care of their animals.
