How can it be "another Mariupol" if Severodonetsk is already taken, with relatively minimal damage to civilian infrastructure? And talking about Kharkov, the Russian have already retaken most of the gains from the Ukrainian counter-offensive.

Meanwhile the United States and EU are on the verge of total economic collapse, and RF has been virtually unhindered by all of the stupid sanctions.

It can never be another Mariupol. Mariupol's steel factory was a fort. This town is not. They could bomb Mariupol for weeks and weeks, but still it was a safe place. This city can easily be leveled and there will be no place to hide. It is no hideout and cant be used as one. The only choice is to fall back when attacked. Going underground is not possible here. That is a big difference.

There is also another very big difference... Mariupol was cut of from other troops by a long distance. Here?? Ukrainians have large number of troops just across the river, so they have their own artillery and anti-aircraft. Either way, Severodonetsk has no real strategic value, Ukrainians are holding it just to increase Russian losses with a lot less on their side.

As much as I like this guy and his analysis he has quite a bit wrong in this one.
Sieverdonetsk is unlikely to become another Mariupol. The Ukrainians are slowly pulling back across the river in an orderly fashion . I doubt that they have any heavy weapons in the town by now as they are not needed there. The remaining citizens are either pro- Russian or the elderly and hopefully will not be abused by the Russians.
Kharkiv is only 35km from the Russian border so it is within artillery range despite Russia pulling back from it's outskirts.
The push by Ukraine near Kherson is tiny. It's a handful of troops testing the waters , not a major incursion by Ukraine.

The Kherson region is being shelled and suffering missile attacks on a daily basis from the Ukrainians. The attacks are on civilian homes, there is nothing of military significance there. This shell and missile attacks are going on for 8 years, since the Maiden Coup overthrew the elected government of Ukraine. Patrick Lancaster posted a video yesterday that showed two neighbouring homes that suffered a missile attack. The missile was loaded with cluster munition. It is very, very difficult for many people to grasp that an orderly retreat isn't necessarily a defeat. It can be a strategic withdrawal. To preserve communications, or supplies, or necessary infrastructure, or lives, a reordering of the lines of battle may be the best action.
Ukraine is still trading ground for time. But putting the river between them and the invaders may be their best bet. They don't want to trade lives for time. They need to hold where they can until the new heavy weaponry arrives in large numbers. Some is trickling in. But not enough.

There are two aspects to this war. One is the physical fighting. The other is global judgement. Ukraine has already won the latter.
There were three blocs, and two outliers, of response to Russia's invasion. The vast majority of western countries condemed. A very few already considered 'rogue' countries supported. India and China chose neutrality. And the African countries were uninterested. Now those African countries are facing dire straits because Putin is blockading grain shipments. This is not endearing Russia to countries foreseeing famine.
All in all, Russia has comprehensively lost the global factor.
As to the physical fighting. Ukraine has already won there. The utmost Russia can gain is the Donbas. They already occupied a large section since 2014. Thousands of lives, billions in infrastructure destruction, and trillions in military costs have been expended. The factories and land which, arguably, would have made future profits for Russia are destroyed. The port of Mariupol is the only inarguable benefit. And even that will need money poured into it to bring it into proper operational readiness.

Severodonetsk cannot into "another Mariupol" because there are no catacombs in the industrial area of Severodonetsk. The Ukrainian Military has to defend on ground level against advancing troops of LPR and Russia. Ukraine has already retreated into the industrial area of the city. What could resemble the siege of Mariupol is an encirclement of 15k Ukrainian troops in the agglomeration of the cities Severodonetsk, Lysychansk, Siversk, Zolote. If pro-Russian troops manage to do that, they can starve the Ukrainian troops and force them to surrender.
Around Kharkov, the Ukrainian counter offensive failed and Ukrainian troops withdrew to positions they had before the begin of their counter offensive. Near Kherson, the Ukrainian counter offensive also failed and Ukraine lost 200 KIA, 300 wounded and 70 PoWs.

Idk it would make sense for them to pull back beyond the river and destroy the bridges as they leave and focus more on holding Lysychansk, being a solider there in Severodonersk with a river to my back while the Russian advance is on multiple fronts would force a lot of anxiety in the defenders imo. Last I heard from people on the ground and from footage is that the Russians control the Majority of the city, there isn't anything near the same sort of defensive networks in place as there was in Mariupol.

Russians haven't captured Kyiv, Kharkiv, Mikolaiyv, or Odessa. Regime change ("denazification") is out of their reach; Novorossiya is out of their reach; capturing Donetsk seems more and more unlikely as time goes on.
Popasna was a town of, what, some 20,000 people? Some 10 kilometers away from the LNR border? Claiming its capture as a significant victory for Russia's military at this point is simply _pathetic._

Not really as Lysychansk is being encircled along with Sievierodonetsk so Lysychansk is in danger of becoming another Mariupol more then Sievierodonetsk. The Ukrainian army should retreat from the area entirely however they want to fight for it not out of tactical sense but because they see it as part Ukraine.
