Commissions are your most basic quest in Ashes, and they are constantly changing to show the state of the dynamic world, they feed every other quest system and reflect your actions in real time.       Dope quest system! I am intrigued about how open-pvp plays into quests. Are there open-pvp quests based on node affiliations? Are quest materials materials lootable from players? etc., Keep up the great work you all!

      13:15 it seems the mob might be pathing back, yet still able to take damage. I love the idea of this if implemented in a way to not be abused, as usually a mob might become immune. If it was fleeing, well hopefully this sparks discussion on the topic. Love showing off old AoC videos compared to the new ones to friends. The game is surely coming along.

    The art direction has improved a tons! The way the player went into the forest and the two tauren-like npcs just walked by they blended so well within the background! The weather change and the repercussions of it such as the lightning falling along the rain and the ability to use that to your disposal is soo so cool!

      Is there or will you add a daze mechanic when hit by mobs in the back? So players cant just run through Everything and turboexplore without engaging with the content and its natural hazards?

    This one actually made it look like a finished game.
    And I know this is not the case yet, but now we can actually see how the node system affects multiple systems around the world, the world feels alive.
    I loved your ideas from the beginning, and seeing them come to life with each passing month has been quite a journey over the years.
    It's taking shape.
    I'd love to see a stream showing node wars in the future, especially node destruction!

    Wow what an improvement, its like the environmental team is adding unique designs that follows a theme. It's looking a lot less generic. The special effects took a huge improvement as well, and looks more natural/seamless. Amazing update so far.

      Animation was cool asf but something so flashy should really be used on a higher CD ability instead of something as basic as a resurrection imo

    One polish I think would help with immersion a lot is messing with how nameplates show up and are presented. Currently, when you see a mob you also see their nameplate. This functionally does its job, you can see the enemies, what enemy it is, how much health it has etc etc. But imo it looks weird and immersion breaking to see a bunch of plastered nameplates over this realistic-ish fantasy world.
    So, I think you guys should probably fiddle around with how nameplates interact with the environment. Perhaps they react to lighting and such, making the nameplates look like they belong in the scenes. Another thing would be (at default settings) nameplates are hidden depending on range, with mobs closer to you having their nameplates show up more and more while mobs far away don’t have any nameplates. With the obvious caveat that mobs you’re targeting always have a nameplate regardless of circumstance.
    One last thing would also be messing around with nameplates of dead enemies. I think the nameplate should fade away once a NPC dies, only reappearing when close or targeted. The nameplate also just needs some touches aswell.

    Feedback for the summoner minotaur, instead of the birds dissappering instantly when the caster dies, maybe their health should decay rapidly. Look to something like LoLs summons, i know diff genre, but the Way their health decays rapidly when the champ dies feels amazing to both user and opponents😊

      Good suggestion but obviously it just hasn’t been done yet. They focused on the functional part first (making the mobs disappear)

      I agree but not agree too, it's way too much and way too fast, especially for the grass, plants and bush, ils looks like cheap piece of paper. It needs to be reduced I think it's kind ruining the envrionnement which is pretty beautiful in the end.

    I loved this showcase so much. The combat of both the npcs and the player looked significantly better and very smooth. The node level up and the subsequent quest introduction with its visuals were amazing. Keep up the good work! I cannot wait to see how Alpha 2 looks!

    I really love how a lot of gameplay loop is trying to be simple at its core, but expands so heavily in the areas of MMOs that really has just felt weak traditionally. This really feels like an innovative step as a whole that I hope sets a trend for others to follow. The dynamic quests, and activities that will encourage a more living, socially engaged world are a great example!

    What I like most is the fact that everything looks so immersive. From the wind moving the trees to the rain when the enemy appears - that the weather even effects the clothing ... I've missed that in pretty much every MMO so far. That's how an MMO should look and feel. Awesome!

    Just for a slight added immersion, would be nice to have quest boards in taverns as well. Just would feel a bit more lived in.

      Taverns will have bulletin boards for things like player group requests/crafting requests so I dont see why they couldn't include commissions as well if not already included

    I love how you need to be careful and tactical when pulling mobs. Gives me Vanilla WoW vibes. The mage combat looked great. Also those damage numbers look perfect ! Also the most beautiful ressurection animation ever!

      Yeah, problem is his spatial awareness needs some work. he kept blinking forward into more enemies, and backing up while fighting into more enemies. This can and will get you killed.

      Agree completely. The rez animation is literally the best I've ever seen in any game. If they ever finish this game, it really might be the best one ever made. So much cool and innovative stuff in Ashes.

    This had the best parts of MMOs I've loved and added some really cool additions. The way quests are linked to the world and map and drive players towards specific spots is very interesting and I can't wait to see it full fleshed out. The implications of this system are making my head spin just thinking about all the possibilities, awesome work to everyone involved.

    Ohhh that looks incredible!! I can't wait to play alpha 2 and experience the glorious world for the first time! I really love the innovative ideas for questing and immersion within the world, it is definnitely going to be an awesome gameplay experience that people will not be used to. I'm looking forward to getting more information and seeing the full archetypes and how they differentiate between each one, my necromancer support healer shall live >:D!

    The storm hazard rng that can effect enemies and players make the open world even more interesting and rememberable. Environmental effects that effects more than just the players is huge immersion.

    Loving the improvements month over month, Intrepid! Commissions are a lot more intricate than I previously thought😅
    Feedback: The game looks so great when the character is standing still but when moving there is a blur (not sure if motion blur) that really takes away from the beautiful world of Verra you guys have built.
    Hoping to see that blur/haziness while moving tuned down, but other than that, I LOVED it!😮

    The lion heraldry (rampant) is facing the wrong way 1:29, unless the view is from the opposite side of the flag and some one positioned it incorrectly then it needs turned 180, Or you know its facing the opposite way from the normal lion heraldry and decided to go with that however if you look up lion heraldry they always face looking to their right. The only one that faces left is Lion Regardant but its body is still in the right facing position.

    When you know this is being made in UE5 and you realize that UEVR is a thing, AOC will be playable in VR. That's crazy. I only hope that Steven and the AOC team don't hinder UEVR. Because following your character with a 3D perspective is going to be cool AF. Though for obvious reasons I can't see 6DOF controls ever being a thing for this, KB+M and seeing Verra from a 3D perspective is going to be awesome.

    Great video... You've given side quests a new and interesting twist. I hope the game will adapt the number of monsters to the number of players (to avoid stepping on each other too much). Once again, a very exciting system!

    Just had to comment on the resurrection animation: From what I have seen in the games I have played so far in my life, this one has got to be one of the most beautiful resurrection animation designs to date. That little Tree of Life growing whilst channeling.. awesome! :)

    If i could make one impact on this game with one core sense of feedback or a suggestion.. it's this. Please look at Runescape and how they do quests. Self contained mini adventures from ranging from Helping a cook by getting the stuff he needs to bake a cake for a duke.. To Grandmaster level quests that involve solving a world mystery with custom puzzles and bosses specific for the quest with mechanics. at the end of a long quest chain that links the world together in a much deeper manner.
    I don't know how to stress the importance's of this.. Quests and quests chains need to leave an impactful feeling for completing them and there is a reason why some of the runescape quests are considered Iconic and masterful.
    Fetch and kill are tasks. not quests. there i said it.

      Runescape is an old mmo that has a lot of out dated and dull gameplay... But the questing is better than any mmo I have played. But it's such a different kind of game, so it's hard to just do what they do since it won't make sense to have a questing system like runescape in any game. But I hope Ashes do take some inspiration from it, and it seems from their comment that they atleast have a goal similar to the Runescape Questing experience@@imviciously

      I’ve been playing Runescape on and off for the past twenty year’s and this right here is very true !! Not just the quest’s them selfs but the “unlock-able content or reward’s you gain from completing them is a good feeling. Something to give the players to strive towards, that next awesome arena or unlock.
      I would love to see something similar to the capes of accomplishment’s as well such as the Max or completionist capes and quest cape in runescape. If there’s one thing i loved about RS it was being rewarded with a skill cape for reaching the max level in a skill having that little trinket to wear and show off your accomplishments with is huge. Or even just a little keep sake from that pacific journey such as a sword you had to use to slay a demon or an amulet that you needed to wear to protect you. Oh and Not to mention the fireworks that go off every time you reach a milestone 💥I would love to see some type of visual Q or sound effect added for thing’s such as that.

    This is looking incredible. I really like the way the world evolves based on player activity. It kind of reminds me of the way that Rift tried to innovate on this idea. I love the weather and how that changes things. The spell effects and combat is looking great. I'm so excited for this.

    A couple minor things I noticed. For one, the deer casually strolling in front of Steven as he runs by was hilarious to me. I just like the idea that Verras' (Verran? Verra?) deers are just built different lol. Another is that the recipe reward from Maho,Streamweaver has a typo. The recipe is labelled "Recipe: STROMcaller's Axe" instead of STORMcaller's axe. Otherwise, the game is coming along fantastically well!
    Also i noticed that wand basic attacks shift elements based on the last spell casted. Thats pretty neat!

    Looks fascinating! Few things came in mind;
    - Will there be a fade animation for spawned minions if you kill a monster who has spawned them? Maybe their ´spirits´ could rise into the universe or something.
    - If you´re standing in water, lets say swimming in a lake, and a lightning hits the water - will you take damage? A fatal surprise would be nasty!
    - What do you think of feature; if you´re killing a quest mob (like minotaurs in the stream), the quest in the quest tracker would be sorted to first (in top of list). Would easen the tracking a bit?

    Looking very awesome!
    Downstream, have you considered adding effects to the magic shields when they take damage? Would be cool to see impact ripples that the mana shield absorbs, or even begin to crack as it loses power.

    the best part of this show case was that Steven seemed to be having fun even though it was just single PVE content and from watching it, it looked fun and engaging. if you can get the most basic questing to feel fun/interesting then your starting off in the right direction... great content... cant wait for the alpha 2.

    The closer we get to A2 the live streams are really showing off the hard work of Intrepid. I wasn't too excited for this particular stream, but I think its been one of the best so far! It looks like an actual game now, and I for one can't wait till A2. Keep up the amazing work Intrepid!

    The comission system once again shows that you guys know your craft and think ahead.
    With comissions refreshing every half hour and the pool of comissions being shared by everyone, the world will automatically feel more alive compared to the traditional questing approach, because people will naturally end up doing the same tasks, at the same locations at the same time much more often.
    Its also just clever to have a stream of activities that is woven into a node-comission-environment feedback loop like this.

    Love the direction! The grapichs and gameplay is improving a lot. For combat, I would love some inspiration from Guild Wars 1, that had many different nuances, for example a mesmer could hex opponenets, so when casting abilities you'd take damage until removed, rangers could then interupt your healer or own attempts to remove hex, so you had these strategic pressures that gave so much depth to combat interactions

    I’m going to point out something I really personally like, that I never thought I’d find myself saying. (If it’s already been pointed out, o well lol)
    But that mini map is by far the best mini map I’ve ever seen personally. The level of detail on a mini map in contrast to the real world is nice. The bridge over the water, the hills, the trees, the path, the accuracy! I like it. No, I love it. And idk how I even noticed that but I’m glad I did 😂 Great job!

    Hello,
    thanks for the great video. I'm getting more and more excited to play the game and can hardly wait.
    But I noticed something. Unfortunately, the quest givers just stand around “stupidly” in the area. This somehow ruins the image of the otherwise lively world. How about they sit around a campfire instead and stand up when you talk to them. Or they commute back and forth between two camps each day, which are located to the left and right of the quest area. One day here and the next day there. The distance doesn't have to be far, just that would complete the picture of a living world.

    It's amazing. It looks like a fantasy book come to life with all the details you imagined in your head. When a hero lives in a world that is real to him, he does not kill hundreds of enemies with one blow like Superman, but really fights for life and explores the living world.     why does the cape float 90 degree angle out when moving or even when there is no wind lol, physics glitch? or bad design?

    Love the updated lightning ball animation. Much better. It would be cool to see some kind of effect that the ball itself has like some static surrounding the ball. Would love if there's an augment where it like a zapping turret that attacks enemies close enough.
    I really hope that blizzard gets an augment for having it be an unchanneled ability. Both to aim it and to leave it there as area denial CC while you do other stuff.
    The tree falling animation has improved as well. I do hope there's a gathering augment that lets you harvest the fallen tree for extra material.

    I think it would be really cool if instead of a commission board, there was a commission hall. It'd create a hangout place for missions and quests for people to seek groups, show armor and other things that feels more natural in the enviroment. Picking up the quest at the reception area, etc.
    Edit: It would also be really cool to have "player commissions" or even bounty hunting etc. in each category like mercenary war, or escorts which can help build around events in the game.

    Great stream! Absolutely adoring the environment and spell animations. A quick concern: What happens when commissions don't have enough players to trigger side quests? For example if the majority of players have moved on to more endgame content - would players lagging behind or wishing to do the commissions specifically for the side quests be able to find a way to trigger them in a more expedient fashion?

    the UI/Hud is a bit small for 4K Gaming, will there be a slider to make it bigger? And most games have this but the most fail with it, the icons and writting are unsharp then, whats your plan with it.

    It's all starting to come together nicely. AoC is looking like a real game more and more with every dev update. Love the new nameplates and health bars btw! Some spell effects look a bit iffy still. They seem fine on their own but I can imagine the visual bloat if you have 2-3 people casting shit at the same time. Anyways, I'm sure that can easily be fixed. Game looks great, I just hope it ends up being as fun to play. Keep up the good work!

    Saw some what looked like motionblur issue on stevens head in the beginning of the video. Hope you will implement the nanite for ground texture soon also so it look less flat :P
    The summoner birds should have same kind of animation when they disappear as when they spawn.
