- The Holy Trinity road show continues in the UK, with Pete heading north by rail to witness his first every away trip...and without too much surprise, it was a tough one to take. The day before, Pete toured Villa Park again, which gave him a very different perspective on his experience at the Etihad. The game itself came down to three key issues and moments which will be covered in great deal, as Villa try and navigate a tricky patch with a razor thin squad. That 2nd goal (wall parted schoolboy error) really killed our spirits just before half time. Thankfully Spurs drew and Manchester United dramatically lost at Chelsea this evening. I think we can still get that 4th spot which would be an absolutely incredible Emery achievement.

Kinda expected considering our lineup. Still kinda annoyed because it felt like we could get something out of the match until the wall disintegrated. It was am awful free kick that should've hit the wall.

Great perception Pete of what was always going to be a tough task. Was lovely for my daughter and myself meeting you last Saturday for the Wolves game. We were alao at Man city away as a family Travelling up from Exeter as we live in a split Villa/City household. For most of the game our supporters outsung the home support absolutely fantastic away support we have. However the season finishes 4th, 5th or 6th and how we fare in Europe its been a great season. On Saturday we go again against Brentford UTMV

Pete if your still about on Sunday, go to Aston Hall park they play village cricket there. Just adds to the whole thing. Where else can you watch village cricket with a beer in the grounds of a stately home with a premier League stadium in the shadows. It's beautiful, no wonder neutrals love our ground so much. UTFV

Oh god I hope it wasn’t my ranting on X you were talking about. I was livid after the game with the squad rotation for it. But with a clearer head I can see the logic, I can’t help but feel the shades of CSKA 2009 though. I sincerely hope this doesn’t backfire on us the way that did. Olsen was really good I thought.

Agree Diane is an absolute legend and the Villa tour is worth every penny. As for the game I thought the combination of second string and youth with a few of our first teamers was a decent effort. Loved our goal and really liked what I saw from Olsen who has had incredibly unfair treatment for the sin of not being Martinez.
Great show on the road Pete. I thought our youngsters did pretty well, all things considered, against arguably the best team in the world, reset into full Guardiola mode. It does seem that whenever we have struggled this season, which is not very often thankfully, it is against a high aggressive press, and so it
proved on Wednesday. I think Emery was right to blood the younger players against this team, in the absence of our spine, Watkins, McGinn, Martinez. Also found your opening thoughts on the 'Emptiad" very interesting. The corporatization of English elite football is not a desirable development in my humble opinion, and the fact that we are now allowing actual countries, albeit thinly disguised, to own football teams in the UK, is I think deeply worrying. What next,
maybe Xi Jinping might fancy Arsenal to add to his CCP display cabinet? I hope you are enjoying your visit and that you and your wife see a big win on Saturday.
like what i see from rodgers he has some nice ability,,, zaniolo and diaby and duran showed a few positives,,, tim did well,,, and doug is knackered,, its hard to judge anyone on this game,, but i really really think we have a star rising in rodgers

Up the mighty Villa Pete, once again a great summation of the game, I thought you went real easy on the wall they and it was shocking, I was a defender myself and its not nice having someone hammering the ball at you especially if its a cold cold day (which this was not) BUT you have a job to do and man up and as you say face the shot and be strong non of which happened and that for me was the turning point on the night, they had been a little quiet until then but as you say the half time talks took a different tone after that, oh well I've had my moan we move on UTV.

We don’t have to win every battle to win the war.
Its like motor racing.
Lets nurse the car home.
The team in sixth is ten points below.
Focus on that CL place.
Also we have Euro Conference Cup to play for.
If you look at the teams above us they press hard everytime they lose the ball,we need to learn to do that.
Another point is attacking, they attack hard, pulling teams out of shape whereas we need players that run at defences, moving the ball quicker,we aren't doing that.
We need to maintain the opinion that Zaniolo os not good enough for our club. Yes a few goals have been important but this is not the Villa of previous seasons. We're now CL contenders and we must demand the highest quality of our players. Weak links get moved on. Simple as that. Solanke would be perfect in a supporting role to Watkins. Nico Williams would offer magic on that left side. I'm hoping for an exciting transfer window this summer. Luiz could be off if 100m is put on the table and that could be a good thing for strengthening overall. UTV

The idea that Emery rested players for up coming matches is ludicrous to me. At this point he should be playing every game to win it, because there's no guarantee that he'll win the games he's expected to. The Automatic CL 4th spot is too close to be banking on beating supposedly lesser teams. And what kind of manager makes up his mind that he can't win beforehand.
Furthermore, in his interviews he made no mention of wanting to rest player for any specific purpose, only that he wanted to give other players minutes.
Here's what I think, Emery has a soft spot for Zaniolo, and he's desperate to get record signing Diaby going. He has been beating that Diaby, Zaniolo dead horse combo for a while. Last week he got a glimpse of what could be and went for it again. Well if you keep trying the same thing over and over, odds are it may work atleast once, but it doesn't mean it will stick. He wants Zaniolo and Diaby to be his starter with Watkins, not Bailey. Bailey basically forced his way into the starting line with his performances, but I don't think he's Emery's man. I get the feeling that if Zaniolo and Diaby had put in a good winning performance, Bailey would be relegated to coming off the bench.
I think some of the decisions Emery has been making lately are personal and not practical. And it's causing him to look amateurish
No mention of our propensity for reckless indiscipline that is costing us key players on top of the crippling injuries?
Kamara missed matches for the sake of petty handbags stuff. If he REALLY wants a scrap (yeah, right), sort it out in the car park after the game. Didn't think so.
Likewise McGinn's red mist costing him matches.
And Douglas perilously close to a red in this match.
Passion is admirable. Weary legs understandable. Hot headedness is childish and selfish and totally UNPROFESSIONAL.

Firstly you can't compare villa Park to a 20 year old stadium. Typically you morphed into a football financial expert regarding the 115 charges saying we shouldn't get away with breaking rules. What if we didn't break any? Innocent until proven guilty in the UK. Incomparable charges and pleads compared to forest and Everton. Villa are this seasons Newcastle. Let's see if they can maintain the league position next season. Newcastle found the pressure of CL and premier league too much. Oh and going corporate and expecting to see hard-core fans . Behave. 😂
