  • Brand new Diamond DA42-VI twin diesel propeller aircraft taking off from the Quebec City airport, beginning a 3-hour flight to the Diamond Aircraft factory in London, Ontario, Canada. Aircraft was being ferried from Austria to Canada, and ultimately to the US, operating under temporary Austrian registry OE-UDK: "Oscar Echo Uniform Delta Kilo" heard in the audio.
Note the crazy mix of French and English in use by the air traffic controllers and pilots. ATC has to keep track of each aircraft's native language when making a radio call.
A funny thing that happened upon departure from the airport was ATC pointing us out to other aircraft as a "Katana" -- a reference to an early Rotax-powered version of the 2-seater single-engine Diamond DA20. I guess to some controllers all Diamonds are "Katanas."

The DA42 may have Diesel engines but they burn JetA. They only use about 12 gph total for both engines.
