    42 now. When I was about 17 I fell in love with the Velvets. Lived in a middle-class suburb in Scotland. At the end of our house we had a "sun lounge" - an optimistic idea for Scotland, since the sun rarely shines. It had huge windows and a wooden floor. It was never used, although my parents used to store bottles in there. In winter, they used to freeze solid. It became my room to listen to music in, and I remember listening to this song while looking out the windows at snow-capped mountains.

    My dad used to play this song on his base. My mom told me that when my parents were driving home after getting married, this song was playing, and they were literally driving into the sunset. It's their song, and it will always remind me of my dad. I love you dad. I hope you're happy wherever you are, and I hope you know how precious you have always been to me.

    This song has something magical. The melody, the chords progression, the piano at the end.. It's just perfect.
    It gives me a lot of emotions, it can seem a happy song, peaceful with good vibes, then it makes me feel also a lot of melancholy and sadness, bitterness..
    The final part often makes me cry, it's so intense.
    For me, the greatest band of rock'n'roll history, I can't understand why they aren't remembered like the beatles or rolling stones, they are way better then the stones and genius as the Beatles.

    Discovering a song that you know you will love forever is one of the most out-of-body experiences.
    I was having an overstimulating morning: woke up with the thought that I had to clean the whole flat, or else I would've gone crazy, looking at the corners that had never seen a good wipe. My hoover had just broken, as well as the clothes airer, my head was full of memories of the previous tipsy night, but mornings after such nights usually turn the memories into boxes of anxious patterns rambling on. And then this song randomly came through my speaker, because Spotify thought I would love it. And I stood still for a moment, more goosebumps than skin on my body, before I started crying. I couldn't handle how beautiful the melody was. The next three minutes I spent weeping and speaking out loud "Why is this so beautiful?".
    Yep, this is when you feel the most alive.

    The first time I heard this song about twenty years ago, I had just bought a cassette of Another View and this song happened to start playing just as I was going up the Sunshine Skyway from St. Petersburg on a a beautiful day with blue sky, magnificent sun, and ocean as far as you could see. One of the most surreal experiences of my entire life, and when the song was over, I had to pop out the tape to see what the title was -- when I read "Ride Into the Sun," it sent chills up my spine.

    Randomly stumbled upon this song today (February 21st, 2023), and heard it for the first time ever in my life. Sometimes you can just tell when a moment is immediately special. It's a pretty typical Tuesday afternoon for me - just logged off work a few hours ago, and now winding down relaxing for the night - but when this song came on it transformed the ordinary into something else.
    It's been tough times for me lately, but this song brings me a lot of hope and the instruments really just convey everything I'm feeling right now. Working on a new DJ mix that I hope to put out soon, and I immediately knew that I have to put this song as the intro.
    Peace and love to everyone out there. Music is the most special thing in the world, and I'm glad this song was able to heal a piece of my fragmented heart.

    One of those perfect songs that can hit multiple emotional nerves at the same time. When I first heard it, it seemed blissfully chill, and reminded me of a mid-summer drive down a winding road through bright green fields under a sprawling blue sky.
    But today, I listened to it w/ the wife and baby and thought about love in the face of inevitable mortality. I damn near cried.
    The funny thing is that VU probably tossed this off half-assed-ly, like it was nothin'.
    I fucking love this band/song.

    • @BygoneUser1

      +Alex DeLuca yeah, they were also a great pysch-rock band in their own rite too, although alternative and brash in style compared to other psych stuff. Personally I prefer them to most punk and rock that came after/before. Most of Lou Reed's solo stuff is good too, but doesn't compare to VU in my opinion

    Oh, my God! I thought I had heard every studio version of "Ride Into the Sun" (my favorite is on the _What Goes On_ box set). I guess because this version has no vocals it wasn't considered for release. But it's _absolutely_ beautiful! Moe's drums have never been recorded better -- and the variations are as tasteful. I haven't heard such great drumming since "The Dangerous Type" by the Cars (which came many years after this). The lead guitar is so precise and melodic it sounds like a keyboard! The rhythm guitar is excellent, with what sounds like a bit of chorusing or flanging on it.
    Thanks so much for a great rarity!

      @jkallred101 5 лет назад

      Ben, I respect the fact that you like the song. It is my ALL TIME favorite and I want it played at my funeral (as a previous post stated). But Moe's drumming is the worst part of the song. She wasn't a drummer; she was some chick they drug in off the street to bang on kitchen pans and hubcaps with a hammer, and they called it "drums." That being said, she probably could have done a better job than me!!! But if she were a real artist, she wouldn't currently be working as a greeter in an Atlanta Walmart.

      @@jkallred101 - I would not be surprised if this did not matter to you but when you insinuate that having what some might consider a lowly job, such as a greeter in a shop, does not make someone a "real" artist, I must disagree: I am a cleaner to earn money but most of my time is spent as an artist and I know many people who do not earn money from their art but persist because it is in our blood and soul, regardless of whether money is made or recognition is given. Artists create because they HAVE to, not for finance or celebrity.

    • @4herstory
      @4herstory 2 года назад

      @@jkallred101 i dunno anyone who works at walmart, but I dare say the MAJORITY of americans (esp older single females) do not have hip, lucrative "careers". many do have creative outlets for which their dinky gig is simply a means to. they're likely loathe to be defined by their job. nor SHOULD they be.
      besides, mo tucker wasn't keith moon, but she wasn't incompetent & she had moments of genuine excellence (e.g. "ocean") - or lou, et al, woulda REPLACED her in a hot "new york minute." she didn't join as a jazz drummer since age 5 or anything. but she was motivated, practised dutifully, & was present & prepared to play when the opportunity arose. she was certainly no LESS of a drummer than, say, tre cool or MOST other punk drummers when they got a band. but u probably wouldn't criticize THEM.
      Don't forget she was the ONLY female drummer in a band AT ALL throughout a period in which most women had to work "pink-collar" jobs. so roles for chicks in music were notoriously few & limited to vocals & tambourine - which was LAME.
      but "lame" maureen tucker was NOT. hell, i saw her live at Churchill's in miami in the late 90s, still touring & playing in bands then. but she must be 80 y.o. by now, so i'd be very surprised if she's actually schlepping at walmart as u suggest - or anywhere.
      so ur clearly talking out of ur ass. u just sound silly - like a hater who isn't even enough of a v.u. fan of to know mo was not just some rando bimbo they "drug[sic] off the street"! i just wish u had a clue wtf u were blithering about & could hear how honestly ignorant u sound.

    Although he was never my favourite musician, his death certainly represents, one of the most significant losts of pop and rock music of all times. We only recognize people's true value when they're gone. Forever. So long, Lou.

    I don't understand why this is so good. It seems so simple and straightforward, just strum some chords, right? So why does it open my heart up like nothing else?

      Passion turns the most simple songs into the most enjoyable. Over complicating music often results in it being boring. Lou's three chord ideology is part of the reason the Velvet Underground stood out from literally everyone else at the time.

    • @humphrey9174
      @humphrey9174 2 года назад

      @@vgmilo the melody is really nice, however I don't think it's the melody, it's the chord progression. Today nobody ever would just strum chords without vocals, because they think it was boring.

    No se que hacer con mi vida, no tengo muchos amigos y no soy bueno con el amor.
    A veces creo que soy un desdichado y que no merezco nada pero escucho canciones como esta de bandas como esta y me siento en paz, realmente en paz y creo que literalmente podría morir en este instante y moriría feliz por haber podido escuchar una canción tan linda con tanto por transmitir.
    Gracias.
