- A product review of the Atomic Hawx Ultra 120 Ski Boot. I skied in this boot for a season and while there are many things I like about the Atomix Hawx Ulltra 120 ski boot, there are a few things that I don't like. While this ski boot is amazing and has the most comfortable fit, there is a serious trade off that you need to consider when purchasing this boot.

Hi Robert, I happened to find these boots online after wacthing your video and I bought them imediately. They fit my feet as feeling like tailored for me and have become my favorite ski boots so far. I have tried many other boots of Salomon and Atomic lines but there are no boots like these. I am so happy I scanned your video and watched it till the end. Salute to you, sir!
Absolutely agree with you. I have skied this boot for 3 seasons now in the 130. Glad to hear I am not the only one getting it on and off! It does have a really good fit.
This sounds perfect I can’t get my 3 piece k2s tight enough on my ankle. Need to go try these on!
I tried this boot today. Felt like it was made for my foot. Had no issue getting the foot out but it was kinda tight to get in for sure.
In a previous video a couple years ago you reviewed the Dalbello Panterra 100 & were thinking of going up to the 120 on the Panterra. Did you ever try the 120s? Interested in your thoughts, thanks!
Thanks Robert for your honest take. Did you try the Hawx Prime - would that have been easier to get on/off? Or tried the Ultra 110 Flex instead of 120
I didn't try those on. I think the Prime would be too wide for me. The flex and fit were actually pretty good on this boot for me. I just dont like the entry/exit as well as it gives me blisters.
I agree with your comments, love the boot but putting it on & taking it off is painful & they should put the same strap as the 130 on this 120, the Lange RX 120 is a great boot but needs to lose some weight
I also enjoyed the Lange but made the mistake of not getting it fitted so sold it. I often think about going back to that brand to give it a more fair try.
The buckle in the front keeps snow out the boot
just out of curiosity and for comparison regarding the flex, what are your measurements?
size and weight? you said you're an intermediate skier.. I'm kinda not sure if I should get the 110 or 120 flex... the 120 looks a bit better tho hahah 😅
I'm 5'9 and 170lbs. I wasnt sure about the flex too and was thinking of trading them in for the 110 but then the shop showed me the difference in quality components of the 110 compared to the 120 and the fact you can reduce flex of the 120 so it feels like a 110 with the screws on the back. That satisfied me enough to keep the 120. Does that help?
@@robertesell thanks a lot for the quick answer!!
if you still remember and wouldn't mind to tell me, which components are higher quality? buckles? strap?... and you change the flex via the screws on the back? if it really is that easy to "switch flex" I'm definitely picking the 120 with the price difference being small + looking cleaner and more minimal
thanks!! 😃
Do you know if the grip walk pads can be taken off ?
Yes. You can swap out the grip walk pads. It comes with alternatives in the box.
These boots are very challenging to get out of . Even worse to get out of with an aftermarket wrap liner. Almost IMPOSSIBLE to get the boot off after skiing. Also, when the shell overlap gets aligned wrong, as it will when getting it on or of, then that is also very challenging to fix.
100% agree! Glad to hear it wasnt just me. :)
I have the 110 Ultra S and 130 ultra XTD. I use both stock liners and zipfits. You need to spread the overlap to get into them, pulling the tongue to the outside. Once you do that, you shouldn’t really have a problem getting into them. Warming the shells with the car heater or a heated boot bag will help. Fantastic boots. Thanks for the video.
Spreading the overlap doesn't really help me. But rotating my foot as I take it out seems to work best. I think people with arches have it worst. Flat footers probably won't have issues with this boot. I have a medium-high arch and it is a cruel boot. Most ski shops also think it is a very challenging boot to get in and out with - the biggest complaint they have to deal with. I like the boot though.@@Fishingcrue
Definitely a pain to put on but once on they feel great, I broke out the heat gun and made them cooperate
These are great boots and you’re right they’re a bitch to get on. I solved that by dropping a Hothands hand warmer in each an hour before I get to the hill and a couple of rocks from the top of the wood stove (wrapped in a cloth). With the plastic warm they’re a lot easier to get into. Then I put the Hothands in my mittens.
Great idea!
Blah blah blah does anyone know how to actually adjust the power shift? I can't seem to get it past the 15 degree setting
What is the power strap you mentioned? For the top, ankle strap.
Sorry I should have called it a Booster Strap. This is what I prefer to replace the top strap with. Works much better. boosterstrap.com/
@@robertesell Thank you for the information. Going to try a pair of Atomics this week.
