    what i meant was instead of using the cams onboard mic to record your tone, mix whatever line feed you have going to your computer into the video for a more complete sound. i give you props on the pod. i have the base model without the USB but it gets the job done. never played an esp but those pickups look and sound beast from what i can tell.

    I've got an M-300FM. Awesome guitar. Get one as soon as you can..you won't be disapointed!!

  • @jasonstallworth
    @jasonstallworth  12 лет назад +1

    So far I like it man but I've spent countless hours dialing in tones (recording tracks then going back and listening to it in other sound sources to hear the mix). I'm trying to nail down which tones I wanna use for my album...almost there.

  • @jasonstallworth
    @jasonstallworth  11 лет назад

    I don't have my XT Live anymore and never saved the patches but I have the settings typed throughout the videos for all of my XT Live videos so you can just pause it at those points and program your XT.

  • @jasonstallworth
    @jasonstallworth  12 лет назад

    The POD XT Live is a great unit man and it's perfect for small to mid-sized gigs. It does depend on the quality of the PA and speakers being used though. In order to get the POD's full potential and true tones you need to make sure you're running through a high quality system.

  • @jasonstallworth
    @jasonstallworth  12 лет назад

    Not sure what you mean by 'all this equipment.' It's quite the simple setup; laptop, interface, and monitors. But to answer your question, I've gotten better recording quality connecting the XT to the USB interface then to the computer.

  • @jasonstallworth
    @jasonstallworth  12 лет назад

    I see what you're saying man. I just need to get a better video camera with those features! Right now I'm videoing me playing along with the song that I'm recording with my software, and then syncing them together (which can be difficult!) Yes dude, I love my ESP; it's an M1000 Deluxe with the EMG 81 and 83 active pickups. The only thing I don't care for is the Floyd. Next guitar I get will not have a Floyd man; too much trouble and not worth the effort to me.

  • @dreamcanal

    Thanks Jason. I like Line 6 a lot and this video helped me tie together the whole XT, DAW, interface thingy.

  • @jasonstallworth
    @jasonstallworth  12 лет назад

    Actually I'm recording the video with a Flip camcorder, which sucks for sound. But later in the video I have a full song that was recorded directly in the studio...just fast-forward until you get to it and you'll get a better idea of the tones. Also, I have a Part I and II to this video series for the XT Live so check those out as well.

  • @jasonstallworth
    @jasonstallworth  12 лет назад +1

    Hey man, I've never used the USB for the POD; I've always plugged it into my interface. The tone you hear though is really gonna be dependent on the output device (the quality of your speakers or studio monitors, or headphones).

  • @the1quetch
    @the1quetch 13 лет назад

    @jasonstallworth the second i read your comment I had a epiphany/"can't believe I've been such a moron" moment and rewired my setup up so my fx plugged straight into the audiobox rather than from the monitor and viola, instant improvement. The sound is much cleaner now and less muggy. Only unfortunate thing is I don't have two outputs from my fx loop so i can't record in stereo, something to aim for i guess. thanks a lot for the comment, much appreciated!

  • @jasonstallworth

    @elvacatran4184 Yeah man, I've setup a pretty cool clean tone with the XT Live. I'm using the Blackface amp with Blackface cabinet and the condenser mic with a little chorus and delay. I'll have to post another vid soon for that.

    oh i know! i played one at guitar center and maaaan it's sweet! i'm only 15 as of today so saving up will probably take some time though

  • @jasonstallworth
    @jasonstallworth  13 лет назад

    @the1quetch - Thanks man, yeah I was extremely happy to find this short...20th anniversary edition!
    I feel you on the money part; gear is expensive which is why I'm still using the old POD XT Live. You can actually use the POD as an interface but I feel the AudioBox grants better quality, so I plug my POD into the AudioBox (in stereo using 2 cables) and that seems to work really well. There are also a lot of good free amp sims (VST plugins out there). LePou amps are one of those.

  • @irvan36mm

    It's similar to your M-1000, but without the pearl-type fingerboard & headstock binding. I almost got the M-1000 when I saw the M-300FM. It was the same price @ Gtr Ctr.

  • @jasonstallworth
    @jasonstallworth  12 лет назад

    @kyleleetch19 Looks like the main difference is the Pro is a rackmount device where as the XT Live is a floor pedal unit. So it really depends on what you're using it for; live vs just studio recording. If you get the XT Pro and wanna play live, you'll need to spend even more money for the pedal. To me, that's not worth it; I'd rather just go with the XT Live. I actually just upgraded to the HD500 though; I'll make some videos on that once I dial in some solid tones.

    ESPs are my style of guitars! I'm gonna be buying an m-300fm as soon as I earn enough money

  • @jasonstallworth
    @jasonstallworth  13 лет назад

    @GabRock91 - Yeah man, I plan on downloading that this week after watching your vid. I've been also playing through the Poulin Legion amp and using Recabinet with it (the 121 mics give it a bit darker tone and takes out the fizz).

  • @basketprojoe
    @basketprojoe 11 лет назад

    never used an Ibanez to be honest. I've only been playing seriously for about two years but I've come a pretty far way in that time. I need active pickups so bad! The F-50's are passives made by ESP and I would prefer active EMG's or something

  • @jasonstallworth

    Wow dude that Lunatic tone is VERY reminiscent of early Testament stuff, which I LOVE!! Thanks for the vid man! I am constantly struggling to get a great tone I can stick with and sits well in a track. Right now, I don't have an interface so I'm only recording direct from the POD. How much does the interface really help in getting a good track? Again thanks for the vid bro!

  • @adubs.
    @adubs. 12 лет назад

    I meant like what you are doing now, mixing and syncing your line to the computer for the video, its not that difficult even in windows movie maker just tedious sometimes. aside from that, I had a schecter damien 7 string with the floyd and yeah... I quickly grew tired of it. though at one point I used wood shims in the back and took out the springs so I could keep it unlocked and play some crazy tunings. probably not recommended but it worked well.

  • @jasonstallworth
    @jasonstallworth  11 лет назад

    I'll have to check one of those out then man!

  • @jasonstallworth
    @jasonstallworth  13 лет назад

    @SlickDoggGayPopper - More so for the style (obviously the playability, sound, and pickups as well) but out of all the high end ESP models I prefer the M1000 Deluxe body style. I'm actually considering getting a 7 string Ibanez at some point for those heavier notes...I currently don't downtune or anything but I do play with a 5 string bass so that helps for heavier tones.

  • @jasonstallworth
    @jasonstallworth  13 лет назад

    @the1quetch - Man, I wouldnt worry so much about stereo for now. I really only use it with my leads (using ping pong or stereo delays) and cleans with stereo chorus. But I've also experimented with recording a clean tone twice and hard panning them both to give you that stereo effect; sounds pretty cool.

  • @TobyKBTY
    @TobyKBTY 13 лет назад

    Haha, neighbors are always the enemy for us guitar players! I really like the POD ton your getting, i am currently getting recabinet to sort of up the ante and give more balls to my POD tone : D

    Nope. I sold this a long time ago. There should be screen shots of the settings in the vids (I've got about 4 vids on the XT)

  • @ezurcher1976
    @ezurcher1976 13 лет назад

    @jasonstallworth I don't know what's going on over here but I copied that tone of yours, i'm using a pod xt right now, borrowed it from a buddy, and my recordings sound like trash lol I just can't seem to get a decent quality recording and it's frustrating as hell I've been playing for close to 26 years and I have so much stuff written. Guess I should take a crash course in recording 101 Any ways, yours sound pretty great man! Keep it up

  • @ezurcher1976
    @ezurcher1976 13 лет назад

    @jasonstallworth It could be for sure. Although I did give myself a little more headroom and they've come out much cleaner. I do need some decent monitors, although I do have some good cans, myself. I really enjoy your videos! Love the protein shake one! haha

  • @jasonstallworth
    @jasonstallworth  12 лет назад

    Muchas Gracias!

  • @jasonstallworth
    @jasonstallworth  11 лет назад

    I never used it as in interface. I always plugged it into my Presonus AudioBox interface. I do the same with my HD500.

  • @jasonstallworth
    @jasonstallworth  11 лет назад

    I've also got an Ibanez RG1570 and I like the way that feels as opposed to my ESP M1000 but the Ibanez V7 and V8 pickups are horrible so I need to change them out.

  • @jasonstallworth
    @jasonstallworth  12 лет назад

    I bought an HD500 a few months ago.

  • @jasonstallworth
    @jasonstallworth  12 лет назад

    @elmaschingon142006 Yeah man, I was actually running my XT Live straight into my Presonus AudioBox interface (I use Presonus Studio One Pro for recording). I think that probably makes a huge difference...running a 1/4" cable from the output of the XT Live straight into the interface instead of using the XT Live's USB.

  • @jasonstallworth
    @jasonstallworth  13 лет назад

    @elvacatran4184 I'm glad this helped man. I finally put a vid up for clean tones so check that one out when you get a chance.

  • @jasonstallworth
    @jasonstallworth  13 лет назад

    @freakfreak12345 - I've found the same man...you can really tweak PODs to sound great going direct (recording or through a high end PA) but it's difficult to get a decent sound when plugging into an amp. But if you have a really good high gain half stack, try bypassing the amp and cabinet on the POD and just using the PODs effects (delay, chorus, EQ and maybe even one of the distortion stomp boxes in the POD). Yes, the KRK's are great!

  • @basketprojoe
    @basketprojoe 11 лет назад

    yeah i haven't enjoyed schecter as much as esps. The day I tried one was the same day I tried an ESP M-100FM. Between a Schecter Hellraiser and the ESP the ESP felt ten times better. I can't afford it though, as I am only fifteen so I have an ESP F-50, which isn't a bad start in my opinion

  • @jasonstallworth
    @jasonstallworth  13 лет назад

    @ezurcher1976 Thanks dude! Yeah, I really dig Testament, especially their Practice What You Preach album. I don't really think you need an interface if you're going direct via USB, but the quality may be better with an interface (since I believe the old POD's USB is not up to the 2.0 standard). I use the Presonus AudioBox interface (my studio is Presonus Studio One Pro 2). I think the interface was about $150 and it comes with Studio One Artist version.

  • @the1quetch
    @the1quetch 13 лет назад

    nice shirt, i'm wearing the same one! I've got an audiobox usb too and was wondering if you use it for recording and if so how? I have a very limited setup mainly due to money but I'm trying to use it to record some demos and would love to know if you had any tips for getting the maximum out of it? thanks man, great vid.

  • @MrMOGHammer
    @MrMOGHammer 4 года назад +1

    chorus definitely adds that "colour" to any metal tone, otherwise it kind of sounds a bit lifeless without it

    • @jasonstallworth
      @jasonstallworth  4 года назад

      To add more life, I always record 2 rhythm tracks and hard pan each. That gives you more liveliness to your music regardless of what you're using

  • @jasonstallworth
    @jasonstallworth  13 лет назад

    @ezurcher1976 Man, it could be the direct connection using the POD; I think the XT Live may sound better going through an interface then to the computer. I've never connected my POD straight to the computer. Even if you got a cheaper interface that would work. Monitors make a huge difference as well. I have decent headphones but it's still a night and day difference between what my tone is like through my headphones versus the KRK's.

    • @jasonstallworth
      @jasonstallworth  10 лет назад +1

      I dont think the XT has that capability but I could be wrong. I believe I left screen shots in the video so you could go by those and set your tones. I always like setting my own versus downloading tones (speaking of the HD500 now). Downloaded tones for some reason never sounded the same as the clips I've heard.
