I was in the Gallowgate end that day. At 80 minutes some lads near me were talking about going to the away games in the different grounds of the third division teams then Kelly scored. The crowd exploded going absolutely ballistic. When the celebrations died down I ended up nowhere near where I was standing. One of the most important goals in our history.

Cemented 'Ned' Kelly as a Newcastle legend. The scenes in the Gallowgate were akin to winning the league. Just a great, great memory.

I was in the Gallowgate end when Kelly scored that goal. Everybody just went totally off it. It saved the Toon from the third division. Bless you David Kelly, you'll never be forgotten by the Toon Army.❤️

The tension was unbelievable, but it was a great relief when David Kelly scored five minutes before the end.

David Kelly goal was the most important goal in NUFC history. If it had finished 0-0 Newcastle would be one point behind Plymouth in the relegation zone. Newcastle would then go on to beat Leicester 2-1 and a Steve walsh own goal in additional time got us the 3 points. If Kelly didn’t score that last game could’ve been different. Newcastle and Oxford would go and survive and Plymouth ended up getting relegated. Let’s hope that the argyle have more success against a north east team tomorrow as they play Sunderland in a fight to qualify for the playoffs.

Special this for me. Was sat in the Milburn stand with my father. He never ever showed much emotion at a match but because this was so crucial he was jumping up and down when the ball went in so much a copper asked him to calm down. Sadly he passed away two months ago.
