  • Dick Clark interviews Pure Prairie on American Bandstand. Michael Reilly introduces the members of the band and Clark plays with the fact that Reilly and Vince Gill make him look short. Clark asks about the success of their new record, and Reilly says they are working really hard and hoping it will change their lives. They talk about life on the road, and Reilly says they intend to settle down soon and work on more stationary projects. Clark asks them about their future plans for the year and later, asks Reilly about the origin of the name Pure Prairie.

    I rented my Rhodes to these guys back in the ‘80’s as they were on a string of fly dates. They were real nice guys. I had no idea I was talking to a future country music superstar at the time. I went and picked up my Rhodes after the gig and they flew out of Casper to Jackson Hole. I remember asking them why they wanted a Rhodes and not a DX7 which was real popular at the time and the keyboard player said he wanted something more “organic”. I didn’t get to see their show because I was called out to work that night, but they were always top notch the times I did see them.

    Yea this is awesome to see Vince Gill here. After Glenn Frey from the Eagles died Don Henley hired him because Glen wanted him the band earlier but just joined last year. The reason how I know this Vince Gill said it was bittersweet joining because he didn't want Glen Frey to die to get in. That just shows that some artists friendship is more important than fame sometimes. Great Song. Great Harmonies!

    A really good band but, this isn't pure prairie league. They kept the original name. PPL was an incredible country rock band who started about 1971,72 and were fronted by Craig Fuller. They released two albums, "Pure Prairie League", and "Busting Out" . , two exceptional, fine albums. The song "Amie" was long before Vince Gill!!! Might want to check them out.

    • @cowboyluke1706
      @cowboyluke1706 4 года назад +7

      Muddy this is PPL , sure the sound changed but PPL , like it or not , had their most success after Craig left. And their sound was pure country rock and was received as well if not better than with Craig. Of course they kept the original name why wouldn't they, just because Craig left Powell, Call, Hinds, Connor and Reilly they should quit or take a new name? they were PPL too. It's a good thing they quit didn't or Craig's outstanding work would never be heard as it never went anywhere and would still be on the shelves at RCA ! George Powell in particular, a founding member, flourished as a singer/songwriter. and John Call's pedal steel is legendary. Every major publication ran articles praising the band and they were on every rock show , all after Craig was gone. Two Lane Highway was also fantastic and was acclaimed as one of the greatest country rock LP's ever made.It forced RCA to re-release the Craig LP's along with the song Amie which did not become a hit until 3 years after it was released thanks to the band carrying on without him. That LP put PPL on top of country rock heap bringing them national attention that only the Eagles had achieved. Live ! Takin' The Stage , their 6th LP was considered one of the great live releases by the RIAA and universally praised by critics . When Gill joined after their 7th LP the success continued with another great LP in Firin' Up. For the record, Reilly , Hinds and Connor are here and they joined during the recording of the 2nd LP Bustin' Out . Many country rock bands and 70's bands had numerous changes back then ( Eagles included !! ) then but PPL thrived on change and stayed in the public eye while others faltered.
      in 2020 PPL still tours and Reilly and John Call are still there. Craig Fuller makes an appearance sometimes. I saw them a few months ago and it was non stop blazing country rock for 2 1/2 hours, an amazing concert show.

    The band was better Before Gill joined it. The early albums with Craig Fuller and George Ed Powell were killers.

      They switched from country-rock to pure pop/soft rock it seems like. Oddly, when "Gill" went solo, he sang country

    Vince Gill ruined Pure Prairie League.....
    I quit listening to them after he joined. He's a pop singer. He didn't fit the musical style of PPL....
