My deer hunting friend who taught me to deer hunt was around when the .270 was invented. He convinced me to get one and I've never regretted it. I use Hornady 130 grain sst bullets, very flat line and very fast. So glad you came to the same conclusion for a gun. This is the ultimate deer weapon, to my way of thinking and experience.
Nice rifles! I am shooting a Sauer 202 in cal. 7x64 with Zeiss 3-12x56 scope. Awesome combo, especially with Barnes Vor-Tx ammo. I hope you will enjoy hunting with these guns!
Congratulations on getting your riffles. For hunting woods with a .308, I like a 180 grain soft point round nose. It isn't for long range, but it is devastating.
Congratulation on getting a rifle permit. Personally I'm more of a gun person than a knife person so I'm looking forward seeing more gun videos. I too hunt with a German rifle, but with an Austrian scope with detachable mounts.
Congratulations Mr Wako ... I am very happy for you my friend .. they are both very nice rifles and will serve you well .. As always i am looking forword to watching your hunting videos with your new Rifles .
On a Mauser type blind magazine the proportions are right. But the detachable magazines does have advantages when it comes to reloading. Enjoy your videos!
It appears they are making a one size fits all action - long to accept all cartidges. One of the advantages of the .308 NATO round is that it is a short action cartridge. In a Remington and other rifles the action is also short action which is stronger and faster loading since the bolt travels less.
You may want to always keep your scope on its lowest setting until game is sighted. With the crosshairs on target, the magnification is easily adjusted without losing sight of target.
Congratulations on having a Sauer rifle. Sauer rifles are very well made and perfect rifles for deer hunting. Can I suggest you to try Barnes TSX bullets? It is lead free. Also the Barnes bullets seems to have more hitting power. I feel the .270 hits like a .308. I too have a Sauer rifle in .270 caliber. My .308 is a Merkel RX Helix, another great rifle. I hope to see more of your stalking and hunting videos. Have fun.
Congratulations! What kind of reticle do you have in the Zeiss scope? The same system lengh in both calibers is because of economical reasons. It's more expensive for the manufacture to make two different sized actions. If you will find any accuracy problems with 130 grs. TSX bullets in the .308 Win. try a more heavy TSX like 150 or 165 grs. Sauer uses a 1:11 barrel twist rate in .308 and certifies them with 168 and 180 grs. bullets. Good luck for your first deers!
I think the reticle of my Zeiss scope is a standard one. Its vertical line from the top has no thick portion and makes the upper view very clean. Zeiss' cross thread is much thinner than Nikon's and I love it better. Thanks.
They're some cool looking rifles, Wako. I use a .308 myself in Australia, and shoot goats, pigs, and deer with it. I might be going after larger deer in a month or so, so I'll use my 9.3x62.
I'm glad to see you can finally use a rifle for hunting. Now you just need to test ammo to see which one each rifle "likes". Choose the most accurate round for each rifle and you will enjoy many successful hunts. Maybe your next adventure will be to start loading your own ammunition!
Congratulations Wako san. I have been shooting .308 Winchester for 5 years and absolutely love it. I will wait with great interest to see how you get on, and also to see how soon you decide that you want to start loading your own ammunition, assuming that you are allowed to do that? Either way, good luck!
nice gun for sure. i have a browning x bot in .270 and i love it .....the only problem is i live in southern ontario and its hard to find places to sight in lol crown land down hear is getting hard to find have to travel easy 2 h to get to a decent place to shoot and hunt .
We have no restriction about the magazine capacity of the rifles while our shotguns are restricted to two rounds in the magazine and one round in the chamber. Thanks.
***** 30-06 is my caliber of choice due to its versatility - you can take anything in North America with 220gr round nose bullets. The 30-06 has slightly more energy, but the .308 has proven to be more slightly more accurate.
Good morning, my name is Jose Maria and I am writing to you from Spain to ask you a question about my Sauer 404 Synchro XT of which I am the owner. The thing is that when I changed the ball of my bolt, the bolt lever now moves and has gained slack. Is there a way to tighten the bolt lever by disassembling the safety part? Is there a manual or guide to be able to do this disassembly and assembly? I have seen that in the Sauer 101 operations manual in a diagram on the last pages, my problem corresponds to element number 27. I hope that everything can be resolved by pressing said lever and I will not have to replace the bolt on my rifle. Greetings and good video
Interesting Wako that you chose these two calibers. I'd be interested to know what grain .308 bullet you use. Normally, the larger caliber represents more knockdown power, but in the case of the .270 and say, 30-06, sectional density ballistics indicates an advantage for the larger round only when using bullets of 180gr or larger.
In Japan 150 grain is popular for .308 and 130 grain is for .270. I took IMR 4064 powder for the both. I will find my fitting amount of the powder by the next season. For the remaining 2 weeks of this season I got ready made ammo, 130 grain Barnes with a plastic tip in .308 and 140 grain Norma. We are obliged to use copper bullets to protect eagles from lead intoxication. Thanks.
Nice rifles, very good choice but I'm not sure 308 will be enough for a bear. Anyway you have two wonderful guns and deers must be careful when you are hunting!
For my purposes a $5000 dollar rifle is not needed. $500 for a leupold scope and $500 for howa in 308 is the best setup for the price I have had, the howa in the hogue is good but in a custom stock it is incredible.
Congratulations! If we ever get a house, or a bigger apartment, I want to apply for a shotgun license. (Not enough space in our current apartment's closets to fasten the weapons and ammo lockers. Either that or we have to get rid of some stuff.)
fastcamo I live in Japan, which means if I want to hunt I have to get a shotgun license first. If I keep that for 10 years, I can get a rifle license like virtuovice just did. (And yes, foreigners can get gun licenses in Japan.)
They are harsh. Getting a license is an expensive process, and then getting the weapon is expensive. You also have to have two lockers in your home, both hidden from sight and bolted to the walls in different rooms: one is for ammo; one for the rifle.
Congratulations! Nice caliber choices and well thought out. Henrik, maybe you shouldn't assume what gun people in a nation of 300+ million with access to damn near every make and model of rifle and optic produced worldwide know or don't know about Sauer and Zeiss. Just sayin'.
Waco san, have you ever interested in bowhuntung? It would be interesting to see some bowhunting action on sika deer. Thanks for your informative videos. I enjoy your every video. Keep them coming.
i hope you will have a great hunting time with your new rifles! i feel sorry that in my country rifles are not allowed for hunting. we only use shootguns :( and we are also not allowed to hunt Deer or Red Deer...only wild boars...:( and you there have so many many big deers... it would be nice to be able to hunt in your country one day...i like your videos very much! i wish you the best and i hope u will keep uploading more :)

BTW, the Mauser M12 is also a very good rifle. The Sauer 101, Mauser M12 and Haenel are all in the same class.Personally I think the Haenel stock looks the best. The mechanicals are slightly different but they are all just as accurate.
Hello Very good review. I use and like .270 later this year, I will get a Sauer in 308, this is a good all round caliber. Bravo 1 3V Lt. sounds and looks good. Have you seen this? Stuart Ackerman is a custom knifemaker from New Zealand. Look at his Serrata, www.spyderco.com/byte/2014_01_january/index.html I am going to get one later this year. Take care Stew

Wow, Sauer and Zeiss, top gear from Germany!
That trigger pull is amazing! Happy hunting with those very nice rifles.
Congratulations on your transition into the world of rifles. Sika deer look out, the doctor has a rifle!
10 Years!!! What a journey. Many many congratulations Wako-San!
Great looking rifles in my favorite calibers.I suggest Remington Core Lokt SP in 150 gr. on the .270 and same round but heavier grain in the .308.
So happy for you, now you might have to start saying...
hello, gun people.
A milestone! Congratulations!
Hey Doc. Glad you finally got your rifles! I know it's been a long wait. I can't wait to see them in action.
Wow! Very nice rifles. I have been wanting to watch Deer Hunter lately. I really love those two calibers. Congratulations.
Perfect rifles, calibers, scopes combination - I wish you many great hunts...
Congratulations on the new riffles. I know you have waited along time for them. Good luck.
Congratulations! Now you are finally a rifle hunter.
I am very happy that u have new rifles and u even got a Sauer ! Good luck and Happy Hunting!
so happy to see you with a rifle after all this time watching you.
can't stop watching these videos........so detailed, and your accent makes me feel like i'm watching a kurosawa film
You patiently waited a very long time.
Congratulations!!
Nice rifles! I am shooting a Sauer 202 in cal. 7x64 with Zeiss 3-12x56 scope. Awesome combo, especially with Barnes Vor-Tx ammo. I hope you will enjoy hunting with these guns!
Good to see you're finally finished with the odious shotgun-only "probation" and you'll be able to make some really long shots now!
Congratulations on getting your riffles. For hunting woods with a .308, I like a 180 grain soft point round nose. It isn't for long range, but it is devastating.
Congratulations on finally being able to purchase a rifle!!
Congratulations Wako! It has been a long time coming. Use them well.
Great looking rifles! You are now ready for anything!
Both great rifles - I deer hunt with both. I like the 50mm Zeiss - expensive, out of my price range but awesome optics
Congratulation on getting a rifle permit. Personally I'm more of a gun person than a knife person so I'm looking forward seeing more gun videos. I too hunt with a German rifle, but with an Austrian scope with detachable mounts.
i know u are very happy now mr waco. - have some really nice big rifles now.
good luck on your next hunts.
see ya
Congratulations Wako, you've waited a long time for these. Enjoy!
Two very beautiful rifles ! I like the 308 especially. 30 06 is my favorite because of the round's versatility in Louisiana's thick bush. Enjoy.
Very nice equipment.
I trust my worked over Mauser 98 in 8x57 Mauser and my modified Ruger m77 mk2 in .270 for my needs.
congratulations and happy hunting!
Very nice thank you for sharing thses with us.
Your .308 is CRISP!!!! ;-)
P.S. my 8 year old son Nathan says "will you tell him I think he is really cool"?
So yes I will....
Sweet! Nice scop too.
I have a Sauer 202 (cal. 30.06) and i love it! it is an amazing rifle!
I wish you many great hunts.
Great looking rifles Mr Waco. Those deer won't have a chance now.

I got Barnes TSX bullets for the both calibers. As you know it is expected to have stronger kill power. Thanks.
Congratulations! I am very happy for you. Enjoy your new rifle hunting. It has been a long wait for you I'm sure... 10 years to get a rifle. お疲れ様でした!
Congratulations! What kind of reticle do you have in the Zeiss scope?

Congratulations Wako san. I have been shooting .308 Winchester for 5 years and absolutely love it. I will wait with great interest to see how you get on, and also to see how soon you decide that you want to start loading your own ammunition, assuming that you are allowed to do that? I got a chance to handle a Sauer bolt action rifle and they are as smooth as silk. Congratulations on your new firearms.
Is the magazine capacity restricted in Japan or can the rifle still hold 5 rounds?
We have no restriction about the magazine capacity of the rifles while our shotguns are restricted to two rounds in the magazine and one round in the chamber. Thanks.

That .270 should be great for the wide open fields you hunt. It is a very flat shooting caliber.
thanks
nice rifles
Tikka T3 has really good reviews
Can you do a review of your sauer 101s?
Thanks
Good guns, good optics. What happened to Howa? They used to make excellent rifles.
they still do

mrbeastochir Bow hunting is illegal here. If we had a bow season, I would enjoy it very much. Thanks.
Test the 7x57 Mauser !! Best of all !
Congrats, Wako! Now you have some real power to take down large stag. I'd use the .308 over the .270 any day. :)
I thought you are not allowed to own rifles in Japan! how come you have two?
Virtuovice try the Bark River Kalahari Hunter
I have this one Sauer 101 Classic XT .308 and it's very accuracy with ammo Geco Teilmantel 170grn
do you live in germany?
i hope you will have a great hunting time with your new rifles! i feel sorry that in my country rifles are not allowed for hunting. we only use shootguns :( and we are also not allowed to hunt Deer or Red Deer...only wild boars...:(

do japanese make hunting guns? aside from shotguns
***** Yes. Howa, and some Browning bolt action rifles.
+wallabing howa is pretty good love the alpine mountain rifle
I think Winchester is also made in Japan.
Can You mout a front bipod like a versapod on this?
+aceviewier Maybe No. Sauer101 Scandic has a specific contact point for the bipod. Thanks.
Holding my rifle or shotgun, my 10 fingers and 2 palms are filled with a conjoined purpose as the weapon becomes a part of my hands and I become a part of it. Sometimes I think I found the gun & sometimes I think it found me. Kanpai.
just a correction wako...
you said "soft" triggers are good for hunting, not for target shooting...
this is not correct at all. in ISSF target shooting, we always want "soft" triggers. there are FAR better than the heavy.
we practice in 2 different sport events here. 1)prone shooting (60 shoots in 300 meter) and 2)3x20 three position shooting.(also 60 shoots)
In the first even we are allowed to participate with "free"rifles (with very very soft triggers). my Grunig Elmiger for example has 160 grammars weight....:)
in the second event we must shoot with "standart" rifles.their triggers must be 1500 grammars weight. or more...and this is more difficult to shoot.when a trigger is heavy, its more difficult to shoot straight
congratulations wako! try also buy a mauser rifle next time :)
Are you referring to the M12? I am not sure but I think the Mauser, Anschutz(only the centrefire rifles), Haenel and Merkel are all made by Merkel factory at Suhl in Germany. Kiat Low m98
kryptia b M98 is a great rifle and a classic. Apparently they still make it according to the original designs.
I thought Japanese were not allowed to own guns?
You will make quicker kills now, no more suffering game with the shotgun
Hello Very good review. I use and like .270 later this year, I will get a Sauer in 308, this is a good all round caliber. Bravo 1 3V Lt. sounds and looks good. Have you seen this? Stuart Ackerman is a custom knifemaker from New Zealand. Look at his Serrata, www.spyderco.com/byte/2014_01_january/index.html I am going to get one later this year. Take care Stew
