The smelt you saw were likely one of two species that belong to the family Atherinopsidae and not Osmeridae, but anything is possible. The usual suspects are jacksmelt and topsmelt. Ok guys I'm a noob when it comes to boating and fishing so about how much fuel on the a average good day would it take to get to Catalina. And how long does it take . I been in charters and that usually takes 4 hrs because they circle the freaking island

FREESTYLE FISHING on average it’s a 26 mile drive to the island, so it depends on your mileage on your motor
