- Foreign nationals queuing outside Home Affairs offices in Marabastad in Pretoria, say they are devastated after Tuesday's stampede, which killed one person.
More than 20 people were injured. Police are investigating the incident.
The foreign nationals, mostly from African countries, say it has been months without asylum documentation, and claim that they have to bribe some officials for them to receive their documents quicker.
They are calling on government to intervene.

It is of paramount importance to teach African History to the Africans, that way the black South Africans will know the Nations that stood with them during the struggle, that way they will stop being so hostile to Africans. Having said that, it is also true that some foreigners go to other people's countries and think they are above the laws of the host country. I witnessed the arrogance and rudeness of Ethiopians and Somalis in SA, refugees who had made it in that nation but looked down on the citizens and everyone else, which was very wrong. Now that am back in my Country, I know how it feels. When I visit Eastleigh for shopping and I encounter very rude traders(not all) it makes me very angry, and by the way, these only happens in Africa, dare be rude or arrogant in Europe, then you will know 'kilicho mutoa kanga manyoya'. Humility is vital, especially when you are a foreigner in another country.

It was for the assistance they had gotten from these countries. 2. There were soo many southafrican blacks who left SA during aparthide, they were scattered all over Africa, America and even Europe, having said that, we should not all converge there, NO!, I wish SA all the best, I loved it when I lived there and many of the black South Africans I interructed with were friendly and kind, in Orange Farms, Sweetwaters, walkers ville and Tulamtwana in Joburg. 🙏

What are these people doing in SA?? I have been to Cambodia as a South African we go there to do teaching work . Very few open business but you pay tax and certain jobs are for locals. Here in South Africa what are these people doing? Tax free? Opening spaza shops well new law must say spaza shops must be for South Africans only!!! For someone to open a spaza shop, he needs enough capital. Therefore any citizen who feels has the ability to do that, go and open your shop. But remember to register your business with the authorities and to pay rent to the owners of the buildings.
Still the South Africans government them space rod rent, take credit from them and they are not stopped from operating spaza shops. It’s easy to blame someone else for your failures.

If home affairs would process applications legally and in the right procedure, then all would be smooth. But, some corrupt officials are receiving bribes to mess up in the department. A real clean up is a priority to the Minister.

These gives me chills when I remember years of going to Marabastad for 'papers', It makes me appreciate my Country kakulu despite corruption. I don't want to remember the hostility in Marabastad in Pritoria by the officials in home Affairs office, some officials were so in human it was unbelievable. why is there arush for documentation now,its also happening in my hometown in kzn,on monday i went to apply for new certificate ,there was abouy 200 people in the line,judgeing from the language,most were foriengners,i thnk word is out that those ids thathey are now using are going to be scrutinized by the new minister.hence the rush

It is sad that the department is also not taking the initiative to manage peoples' expectations regarding asylum, permanent residency and citizenship. There needs to be an active drive to actively discourage people from entering the country for this because it is simply not feasible and sustainable to offer this many people such status in South Africa. Not with our current economy, social welfare system, social ills and the current push towards NHI.
