Behind the search for every idol lies the yearning for completion. To seek a special person or a thing to "add" to you to make yourself complete can only mean that you believe some form is missing, and by finding this, you will achieve completion in a form that you like. This is the purpose of an idol, that you will not look beyond it to the source of the belief that you are incomplete.

I did a deep study about this topic and I realize that the Hindus and Buddhist worship wood and stones etc.But an idol is anyone , anything you place first in your life, before God .Self exaltation is idolatry.Satan is the first to commit such sin, he said I will exalt myself above the most high , I will be like the most high..He wanted the power that belong only to Yahweh and wanted to be worship

An idol is a false god, in the likeness of heaven above or in the likeness of the earth below...The star spangled of heaven and the bald eagle of the earth are idols, and those who are serving the flag are serving idols...The US calls the star spangled of heaven, a symbol...God calls the star spangled of heaven, an idol...The US calls the bald eagle of the earth, a symbol...God calls the bald eagle of the earth, an idol...The idols of wood and stone were replaced with idols of fabric...The nations idols are in the flags and the flags are high and lifted up on a flag pole...Idolatry is through the pledge of allegiance to the flag and anthem...When the king of Babylon the great played the anthem at the sound of music the Babylonians fell down on the ground and worship the statue of the golden image...Today, when the US plays the anthem at the sound of music the US citizens stand on their feet to sing ol glory to the star spangled of heaven...The god of Israel is the star remphan of heaven acts 7:43...Israel calls the star remphan of heaven, the star of David...The god of Mexico is the eagle and serpent of the earth...The god of Canada is the leaf of the maple tree of the earth...The god of Japan is the sun of heaven...The idols of the nation's are high and lifted up on a flag pole...To avoid idol worship we must believe what God said in Ex.20:3-5...Nation's that exalt themselves to be great, God is going to bring them down to hell.

Didn’t Ex. 31:16 declare the Sabbath to be a perpetual covenant between God and his people?
Yes, but so was circumcision (Gen. 17:13) and the weekly showbread (Lev. 24:8). The same Hebrew word is used to say that the Day of Atonement is a lasting ordinance, and the Levitical priesthood will continue (Lev. 16:29; Ex. 29:9; 40:15). Obviously, the Hebrew word does not mean eternal. The covenant that God made with the Israelites is now obsolete (Heb. 8:13).
God gave the Sabbath to the Israelites as a sign between God and the Israelites (Ex. 31:17). The Sabbath made the Israelites different from other nations-but Paul says that the laws that separated Jews and Gentiles have been done away by the cross of Christ (Eph. 2:11-18).

Steven Lyles Read Rev. 14:12, John 14:15, then John 15:10.
Also, what does 'perpetual' mean? If you're a child of God, His commandments (including the forth...because He wrote all 10, right?), are perpetually binding to you/me!
Every government body has laws; Gods is no different.
      It really is that simple...

Steven Lyles, point noted. How do we consider our brothers and sisters who lived before the Israelites? What does the Bible say about their observation of the Sabbath?

Actually all the commandments were given to the Jews, does that mean they are not for us as well or have they passed away?
Matthew 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
Matthew 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

we must turn to the New Testament. Although some of the commandments are quoted at various places in the New Testament, the only place in the New Testament where the Ten Commandments are mentioned as a group is in 2 Cor. 3. There, Paul talks about tablets of stone when Moses’ face was shining in glory (vs. 3, 7). Clearly, Paul is talking about the Ten Commandments. Notice what he says: They are the letter that kills, a ministry of death and condemnation, which came in glory but its glory is now fading away (vs. 6-11). The new covenant, in contrast, is a ministry that brings life, is much more glorious, and is a ministry that does not fade away.
Paul did not praise the Ten Commandments as part of the Christian way of life. Rather, he pointed out ways in which the gospel of Jesus Christ is different from the Ten Commandments. They were part of a ministry that was fading away. Since Paul says that the ministry of the letter is fading, it should be no surprise if we find that one of the Ten was a temporary command. Something about those stone tablets is fading away; we cannot assume that all Ten Commandments are eternal.
