I live in Queens, my friend. I can't tell you how many times I've been racially profiled, and straight up harrassed. Even in my rather nice, low crime neighborhood, I've had issues with the caucasians in blue.

I think we should ignore them like they ignore us. When a cop kills a citizen for what ever reason, it takes years and years before if any the cop is held accountable and it's done by the police instead of a neutral party.
I don't know when it started or how long it's been going on, but our police departments are filled with criminals and killers. People are always talking about these good cops. But they NEVER seem to be around when a cop has his knee on someone's neck for 8min 46secs or when their buddies decide to do a "no-knock" raid in plainclothes and no bodycams...
These marches and talks of defunding and removing Qualified Immunity for cops who break the law, has them shaking in their boots. I'm not shocked that he's crying out for help to brutalize these protesters. They gave up honoring their oaths a long time ago.
I once asked a cop on a message board " How do you deal with arresting and disenfranchising your own friends and family?" He told me thats why you're never assigned to your own district. My response:
"So it's ok as long as it's not YOUR friends and family?" How altruistic.
That is why community policing helps a lot. You need to be with your people to understand their problems. Reforms have to be profound to have any meaning at this late stage.

I'd imagine 1 billion dollars of a budget is great, but six...where does that money go when disbursement happens.

Community programs. Instead calling a police officer to move along or arrest a homeless person a community outreach program can go and try to help them. To underfunded schools so they can buy relevant textbooks, papers, pens instead of the teachers that aren’t allowed to write it off anymore. They can pay teachers a living wage and hire more staff so classroom sizes are more productive. Instead of cutting activities kids can develop hobbies and interests that help keep them occupied and gives them hope for the future. Daycares for low income workers so they don’t loose most of their wages paying someone to watch their kids so they can work. Which means they can have left over money to save for their child’s future or a house so they’re not stuck paying rent forever and have something that has equity. Or even just putting it back in the economy normally.
The police aren’t always the right resources. By creating alternative programs you take away the jobs the police shouldn’t have been doing and distribute them to programs better equipped to deal with the situation. And the police departments can get start cutting off those bad apples that never should have been cops. They can focus more on things you actually need cops for.

I was a Nurse in the U.K. - we are overseen by the _NMC_ (Nursing and Midwifery Council). To practice as a Nurse I had to be part of their register. To get on that register I had to pass a nationally standardised basic entrance course (3yrs). To stay on that register I had to prove I undertook regular training. Any bad practice or breach of the NMC rules had to be reported. Now whether I would be sacked or not the _NMC_ could make an independent review and suspend me from the register until I undertook appropriate training. Or worse permanently expel me. That National register prevented me from trying to find nursing work elsewhere by not declaring my registry status, because employers had a legal responsibility to check my status before employment. Employers also had a legal responsibility to offer training opportunities so that registrees can meet registry requirements.
All on-the-job Trainers had to be on the register too. If they could not prove they taught students appropriately with the right resource materials they too can be removed.
The registry upkeep was in some way financially supported by the registerees paying a small annual fee to be registered...
• Initial training needs to be longer and more progressive, insightful and deescalating not para-militaristic!
• On-going training needs to be impactful, mandatory and for the life-spam of a cop!
• The registry should be seen as a honour and privilege, staying on it is not a right!
• The police is accountable and held to a standard & there is independent review by a panel that includes experts and laymen....
• That review body must have the power to enforce appropriate training & Therapy!
• The process HAS TO BE Transparent and honest!
Is it really that hard? Why shouldn’t the Police, who are aloud to exorcise lethal force, who hold the very life of citizens in their hands not undergo the same training, control or scrutiny as a Nurse?

Noone is asking you to not do your job were asking you to do your job correctly as humane as possible. If we can't kill people you shouldn't either. In the military if someone has a weapon on hand there considered the bad guys and they are shoot dead should work the same as the police but instead you believe someone has a gun when they reach into there pocket and shoot them without any clear proof he/she has a weapons because you were scared for your life. I'm a lifetime resident of the Bronx. Pat Lynch is a disgrace. We had ZERO police enforcement last year (early 2019) and a dramatic spike in crime across the five boroughs because he effectively told the NYPD they'd be in trouble for doing their jobs after it seemed the arresting officers in the Eric Garner case were going to finally be fired. Only when federal charges were dropped that summer did the police start doing their jobs again. The NYPD became the Good Ol' Boys Club when Giuliani was mayor and allowed them carte blanche back in the mid 90's.
