Merry Christmas and happy New year Bill , really enjoyed your videos thanks for sharing , see you in 2023 looking forward to the evolution of the new layout , all the best 🎅❄️🌈⛄👍
Well that was a true fix in the end. What a difference all that work has made, life back on a railway again for a good few years to come. Well done Bill, have a great Christmas. All best Marc
Hi Bill (& all). I have a quandary and this is it: I recently purchased a Triang 'Princess Royal' (No: 46200 Class 8P) on the well known auction site. It's a lovely smooth and reasonably quiet runner (although she draws 1.5 amps at full speed), so the original owner must have treated her like a pet dog. What I want to know is what is the year of her manufacture. Description: 1) Nigh on perfect condition (almost new) in a BR 2nd era (dartboard with wings on the tender) livery, and maroon in colour. 2) The letter 'S' engraved on the front underside of the loco's chassis. 3) The tender is marked underneath with 'Triang R30/R31 Made in England', but no catalogue number on the loco itself. 4) She does not have the old 'open' D couplings, but instead has the later 'closed' D couplings. However, these could have been changed by the previous owner in an attempt to 'upgrade' her. 5) A blatantly obvious screw on the front of the running board just under the smokebox door for removing the chassis. Answers on a postcard please and the winner will be awarded 10 points! Cheers, Paul. 👍
Well done Bill, that's so much better, have a great Christmas looking forward to seeing the new layout, ps, have you checked the pub for the shepherd?? Eddy xx
That made a big difference. I don't mind my older locos making some noise as I think it adds to the character. Merry Christmas and a happy new year cheers, 🍻🎅🍻🎅🍻🎅
Blimey ! That’s a difference. Personally I’d have kept the smoke generator myself. I’m going to try mine with vape liquid… I’ll let you know if it works. Hat’s off mate for this restoration, I’ve enjoyed every minute. Since I’ve been subscribed I’m now armed and ready for the restoration of my entire fleet which has been sitting in boxes for far too long now. I think I’ll make a start in the New Year. I’ve got 4 years or so until retirement and a new layout, so if I work well everything should be ready for 2026!!
The smoke generator is a bit of fun, but if you use them you may find that your track, and the rest of your model railway, gets covered in an oily film. I've read that as a reason why people disconnect them. The generators also draw current in use (so less is available for the motor) and pose an additional, if small, mechanical load on the motor, slowing it down.
@It’s Alfie! i used to use 3in1 in my Jinty when I was a sprog, but boy did it stink!! At least this time round I could choose my preferred flavour of vape oil 😂
@@PeterJewell2 I would agree with those comments, it is the electrical current running through the element which causes the problems of heat, the oil is quite easy to get off ebay.
Much quieter Bill. Good fix. However, this model came out between 2003 and 2005 so is not really that old. I have a 1960's Britannia still puffing smoke so I'm surprised that the smoke generator is suspected to be an issue/potential problem. They don't get used much so I guess that disabling it is not a problem with the owner anyway. Stay safe. Monsville Railways
Yeah reckon that’s a 70-72 Princess when the LMS livery was carried it was BR before that . They had plated wheels 73/74 which was last year in catalogue
And as someone told me on the previous video, Tri-ang Hornby released some of these with sheets of alternative names/numbers for the owner to apply, so this one doesn't appear in the Hornby Collector's Guide, but a later version (different motor) with the same name does.
Another job well done Bill. I hope you and your family have a good Christms.
I find myself watching Choo - Choos again, and why not ? 😀
That was a most instructive video thanks Bill. I can see a big order for replacement worms and wheels going in soon, all I need is a worm puller!
Cool effect, the black and white pix depicting the past !!

It's a Triang and came out loooong before 2003.
Yup, Bill is right, youngest is could be is 1973 when they stopped making them as R258, the original, R50, is from the 50s.
No way did that come out between 2003 -2005 bill is right
