Have you made the mistake of leaving ammo in your bag while traveling?

Once I accidentally crossed into Mexico with my police issued handgun
Never use any range bag for any other purpose, EVER!
Prior to 911, my (no ex) wife was getting checked in for a flight to visit her sister. We had gone target shooting at the indoor range a few days ago. Apparently the box of ammo had spilled five rounds of 9mm into the bottom of her purse.
The security caught it in the x-ray and told her to step aside. She explained how they got there. They took the ammo and bid her a good flight.
When she pointed me out (waving her goodbye), they handed me the bullets and asked that we should check a little better. (I was on the public side of the checkpoint). I waved her goodbye and put the rounds in my pocket, went home and that was it.
The governments prefer to nail the good guys who would never be a threat and take bribes from those who are blatantly thugs.
If you’re using the SAME bag for the range and for luggage? That’s a YOU PROBLEM….. Zero excuse don’t blame TSA as they’re not really professionals.
💯 Using the same bag is insane.
And this is why I have a range bag! My freedom gear will get nowhere near my airline travel bags because mistakes like that can cost you big time!
Exactly! And I have my hunting backpack. Those are the only things my ammo goes into
Same here. Ammo box and range bag. Ammo goes no place else. I find it odd that anyone with experience would walk up to a TSA check point with anything on them. Huh whatever
Measure twice, cut once.
I watched a TSA guy dig through my backpack for 15 minutes and proudly show off one stray .22 round that had been in there for months. I made my flight, barely. How this guy made it through with multiple rounds boggles my mind.
I was managing security at a tourist attraction in NYC and a lady had multiple 22 shell cases in the cuffs of her jacket and pants. She said she went shooting in the morning right before she drove to NYC. I threw out the cases and let her go with a warning
"cases" or "cartridges"? Because "case" to me says a "fired round" which is COMPLETELY legal. An unfired "cartridge" however is a different story.
Simple Solution: Don't use bags you bring to the range to travel with.
Did I hear you right? He was leaving their country with the ammo? I can see maybe stopping him while entering the country, but the guy is leaving.
Was his range bag also his travel bag? Dude needs to keep things separate.
I have my carry on backpack. I never place a gun, knife or related item in it. Have plenty of packs for those items. One is specifically non weapon ever.
My mother once made it through Minneapolis airport with a kitchen knife that she used to cut a birthday cake prior that and forgot it in her bag..... when coming back the TSA found it and she told them the story and told them to just throw it away....
Yeah TSA in USA really F^$%%%% up one this one. That's why I don't use any possible travel bags for ranges
Ed is hilarious I've really enjoyed y'all having him. I've seen videos before telling you to check your bags before traveling. And even though I would have sworn in a bible I got everything. This extra check saved me from accidentally taking a multi tool through TSA
I went through TSA with 3 throwing knives in my bag, and spent 2 hours in a white room with 3 TSA agents and a police officer. Needless to say, I missed my flight after explaining my situation they took the knives and gave me a big SLAP on the hand and told me that I was very lucky I'm not going to jail. Granted this was 20 years ago. But WOW
If Brittany Grinner got out for transporting drugs.....
Britney Griner was a black lesbian sports "star" and thus had a TON of value with the left. A well of white man? Zero inherent value according to the leftists.
Yeah, but (s)he's a famous basketball player. Our government would collapse, and send the nation into absolute chaos if it weren't for basketball players.
I flew from Erie, PA to Atlanta and found .223 round in my carry on. It was not with me when I returned.
I remember in middle school, I was putting my backpack in my locker, and found like 4-5 Remington 7mm cartridges that I had put in my backpack from my hunting trip the past weekend (I only had one backpack so I used my school bag as my hunting bag) and I about had a heart attack, ran to the bathroom called my dad freaking out, and he just very calmly said “it’s ok, just leave them in your bag, in your locker, don’t tell a single person you have them, and we’ll take them out when you get home” and that was that, went about my day no issues but man I was spooked😂
Honestly, this is why you dump out the contents of your bags and luggage, and put your hands into every pocket of said bags and luggage. Check everything. Then, pack for your dream vacation. Yes, he was an idiot. No, I don't think he deserves 12 years in prison for his stupidity.
always prioritize safety and legal compliance when handling firearms
Believe it or not I work at a small gun store in Oklahoma City. As it turns out he bought the 6.5 Creedmoor ammo at our store and called and spoke with the store manager last week asking if he could write a letter stating that that type of round is meant for hunting purposes and can’t be loaded into any random firearm. I don’t know why the authorities down there requested something that sounds so silly to us, but we are trying to help him. Apparently governor Stitt is working with the authorities to get him back
As much as it’s been happening I’m starting to think they are planting it.
Here's a good one. I had a handcuff key on one of my keyrings and got stopped for it.
In regards to the TSA. I had a different surprise encounter while I was active duty military ( in uniform with the company) returning back to the US from a deployment. I was a given a spring loaded Benchmade knife that was ordered through a military website with a NSN (National Stock Number). By my squad leader as a gift being a mechanic. The knife was in my check bag to go in the cargo luggage section. The TSA made me get a Captain or higher rank to sign a waiver so that I could bring it home.
Just for reference this took place in Qatar International airport.
I think it might be beneficial for us who might own things at home that would be considered contraband at an airport(or another jurisdiction)to start making a list of things we put in our luggage as we are putting them in, so that way we know we are taking absolutely everything back out when we arrive at our destination, so that it is guaranteed that we know we took everything out of the luggage, that way we don't make the mistake of leaving something in there that might get us in trouble somewhere else. After watching this I am definitely going to start doing this because I don't want to be punished for an honest accident let alone be punished to the extreme like this unfortunate man did.
The TSA has never prevented anything
When I was coming back from Germany I gone through security in Germany, and in Pittsburg, to my destination Las Vegas in 2003. This was the first time back in the states sense 9/11. National Guards men were at security and checks were stricter, supposedly. While waiting for my checked luggage I was looking for something in my carry on and found a Leatherman knife in the side pocket. The funny thing is they flagged a Leatherman knife I had in the check luggage and escorted me to the ticket counter to make sure the knife stayed in the checked bag. They didn't say anything about it in my carry on attaché bag. I guess I got lucky.
Internationally, they don't like empty spent shells either.
They were resonable and just trashed them, since they were empty and spent, but its worth the few minutes to "sterilize" your bags and jacket pockets before you pack.
I am still trying to figure out how TSA missed them.
Wow, I have no idea how that pack of cigarettes got in my suitcase, officer!
Let's hope for a fair resolution for this individual.
Whoa boy.....
I blame TSA
Someone could have set him up.
Not quite this. But i had gone to the range to shoot the old 12 gauge before deer season started. Laid it across the back seat right onto my work backpack afterwards. Now, at my work we used to have K9s on our security and they were also explosive dogs. This wasn't routine but us in the emergency department thought it was cool so we'd ask them to have them clear areas when we weren't busy so we could watch. So the handler had his dog clearing triage while we watched and he struck on my bag. I knew the handler, Dave, since i began working there. Told Dave to go ahead and check my bag because i knew exactly what happened.
You can have security, you can have freedom - you can't have both.
Ammo but no Gun ??? What's the point ?
😱. Oh crap. Oversights happen. The TSA or whatever they call it there, could’ve understood. They just wanted to show they were diligent.
Small things can slip behind the liner in a suitcase or backpack. There are states that will bust you for .22 cal shell casings or a 3 1/4” blade pocket knife that fell under a seat cushion.
Ridiculous TSA are you kidding me wowo
I found 10 rounds of 10mm hollow point in some random storage of a used van i bought. There is nothing crazy happen but we were in cali so if we got pulled over who knows what would have happened
My friend got from NJ to Nevada and found 2 rounds out there.
Was looking at places to vacation. Turks and Caicos is off the list.
I took the large knife off* the side of the back pack. But missed the loaded .45 mag in a small pouch of the middle pocket... they said I could mail it home or have someone pick it up. Signed some paperwork. And made my honeymoon flight... 😅 later got a letter in the mail saying don't do it again or else...
Free them man free the whole gang man
Deadly weapon Starr?😮
Can anyone please recommend ccw insurance for Washington state? It seems nonexistent.
I have not stepped on an airplane since June 2000. I will never fly again.
Did you have a similar experience that caused you to not want to fly anymore?
I got busted going into Disney World. I had in my pocket something which I have always carried. Call it a good luck charm or whatever. This time it wasn't good luck. It was a 9mm dummy round which they gave me the choice of having it confiscated or I could return it to my car. If you've ever been to Disney World taking it back to the car was not an option. I even tried to explain that was a dummy round and showed it did not even have a primer in it. I understand the world we live in today and it was totally my error. Guess I was fortunate I wasn't detained.
No no no your wrong TSA never makes mistakes, just ask them. Since this is a foreign country they can do whatever they want. Since I have a range bag all of what is at the range is in the bag. Never use the bag for anything else.
Ummm why did he have ammo in the bag in the first place?
It is surprising they didn't catch it in the states before he left by the metal detection.
Mistakes happen but ammo is a dangerous item. You cant just leave your gun or ammo out or forget where you put it. SOunds like they are railroading this guy though which is unfair.
Looking
The man made it into the country without issue, and no one was hurt. He goes through screening to leave the country, and then they decide to take it to this level. Obviously, he was no threat to anyone and demonstrated such by being in the country without incident.
I have very little sympathy for people in these situations. I fly at least 10 times a year.
I have two range bags. They are used for nothing else but the range.
I have a travel backpack as my carry-on. There is never ammo or a firearm in that bag. The bags aren't even stored in the same place.
I also empty out the travel backpack EVERY time I'm packing for travel just to be sure - the same way I check my firearm every time I pick it up.
too bad tsa has sucn a large failure to detect rate.
Not saying the sentence fits the crime, but you have to be sort of an idiot or at a minimum very careless to lose track of your ammunition like that. Hope he gets out on appeal. It sucks when you’re the one that they’re making an example out of.
I rarely travel by air, but when I have to, I buy new bags every time. I constantly have loose rounds floating around. And it sucks because he's an Oklahoma brother.
Just another reason I will not fly. I have NO time for the TSA.
I don’t understand anyone that would want to leave the US to go travel to another country. This is not the time anymore you need to stay home. They may make an example out of him . They are going to bankrupt him
Because the world is an incredibly beautiful place and many of us don't get to live on the coast or in warm sandy places with the sound of seagulls overhead. Nowadays in the US if you want that you have to live in places like san fransisco which are a) expensive b) disgusting from feces and c) dangerous.
Boycott.
Only other thing that could definitely land you in prison is trusting USCCA to defend you
What makes you think that? There are thousands of USCCA members over the years that have not only survived a self defense incident, but also survived the legal aftermath thanks to their membership benefits.

Break another countries laws and deal with the consequences. Deal with it.
I agree but I’d give the guys a break they probably didn’t even know.
@@abigbigmac of course they didn't man you don't take ammo somewhere where guns aren't even commonly available... But that doesn't mean he is exempt from the laws of that country. Whatever sentence they give him it's on him.
