Dane, you always have the best helmet cam videos. I believe it is because of your great paddling posture, which keeps your head upright and centered over your boat. It is so refreshing to watch your videos with whitewater sounds and no music.
It's really nice to hear Adrian's succinct and to the point descriptions. I remember my first run down the Green Narrows with Leland Davis giving me a very similar set of instructions. Good times! :-) I had to smile when I heard Adrian say that with everyone else they would scout the next rapid but that you were just going run it. That Myrkdal-selva sure looks like fun, especially with the crew you ran it with!
I just watched the Cherry Creek post from this month before this on. Honestly, I was much more tense watching this run. There was so much water and just no stopping. Loved it.
Dude, Dane. That was a sick run!! I was gripping tight watching you only take instructions and then go for the rapids. Good to see a common question you had was "is there a hole". Each time the guy responding "Yes". 🤣 But shows that your always being cautious of what's next especially on big water. Amazing amazing buddy
great video, thank you! Also really nice to have a few without music. I love all of you guys. your videos are so great, cause they are entertaining but in the same time even a not so epxerienced kayaker like myself, I can actually learn things from your videos. For instance, as I never ran big waves as you guys do, it is so interesting to see for me that and how you lean into those big water rollers.
How does Adrian remember these lines so perfectly?! I struggle to give good beta even on rivers I know really well. I recognise the features as I come to them, but couldn't describe most of the lines until I see them
It is somewhat of a skill built up over time, but an important one. It's worth taking the time to try to become good at giving beta, your friends will thank you. The most important thing of beta is not giving too much information, just keep it simple.
There's pretty much a forum for anything you can think of, but your best bet is to look up local businesses in your area that specialize in whitewater, visit them in person, and find out if they offer instruction or can point you towards someone who does. Many can outfit you with all the equipment you'll need for their classes, so you can decide if you want to make the investment to buy your own after trying out the sport.
Lick your lense a few times it keeps water from sticking. Also, in between rapids throw water on your camera. It will wash any stuck bead of water off your lense. You should do both a few times every run.
@@fredgoeskayaking337 Just landed off line on some rocks, got ejected and then got body recirculated below the drop. Almost drowned but luckily popped up before blacking out. No fun.
Yep, 2017 summer. Because there isn't much water left in TN to make new content, I decided to put together some raw GoPro vids from 2017/2018. Gonna be posting them Monday and Friday for the next couple weeks.

It’s a recirculating feature, looks like the end of a ocean wave. It can sometimes be big enough to hold you and give you a beat down, and sometimes cause you to swim out of your kayak.
Basically information on the run or the rapids or something you need to know about the river. Someone usually gives you beta on where to go, things to look out for etc.

Interesting to hear Adrian Mattern's explanations, and then to see the lines from Dane Jackson's perspective - great!

“Nah man it dont it- AUH [...]”

I like you edits, you include the runs but I like the way you include the talk.
🙏
Agree, edits are cool, but seeing a bit more of the story of the day makes for a great video.
Great vids Dane. Love how you giggle on drops most of us would "pucker" on!....haha

That "its kinda high eh" at the start tho 😅
That’s an awesome run, good water level and the guide was amazing.
This is it. Sick video, of 3 mates running some sick whitewater. Epic 🤘
return of the pink boat
Nav Nav kayak. But yes
@@sophieelizabeth2720 a kayak is technically a boat. And most kayakers I know call it a boat to

Flow State perhaps. The difference between us weekend warriors and the pros.
When are we going to get our Royal Gorge Colorado Vid? I need some Mile High love!
Dane I think that I have watched every video you have ever made since your first now
Great level on the Myrk!!!!!!!!!!
Felt chillll after this lap haha
I knew all the Werner's back in the day when I WW'd

😍 I would love to do something like this. Soon; I am not experienced enough.
I’m a skateboarder and I like watching your vids bro keep it up
Appreciate it!
Great edit, and no "music" from the sender lads double + :)
meet my eye-line, Jim!!
Seems sketch. Pretty awesome you do this.
Headed to Germany with the Air Force. Any river recommendations? Comfy with IV-V and up to 50 footers
go to rivermap.ch for a great first overview.
Werner should print their name in the middle of the paddle, so you wouldn't have to hold the paddle in the camera from time to time ;-)
Haha
Was that a sedentary rock out-cropping or a very old bridge remnant at the end? Thanks for the ride!
Definitely manmade
Sick to watch! Did you kayak at the sjoa?+
Edan bang gw suka mantappp
mate i kinda got scared watching this not gonna lie
8:13. Only real ones know what that means
Just wonder what the name make of your kayak
He usually rows a Jackson Antix
Are you using your paddle to check your GoPro is on at 6:40 ?
Yeah I look for the red light or screen in the reflection. Its a way I can check it without having to take my helmet off.

Sadly not this year. But I am definitely ready to get back!
@ Bummed to hear that! Hopefully it'll happen next year!
What does he mean when he says there is a “hole” at the bottom? Like a place to get trapped?
Yeah a feature like the end of an ocean wave, where you can get stuck and potentially surf.
do you then spend like an hour walking back to your cars
How do you get into whitewater kayaking? Are there any good forums?
There's pretty much a forum for anything you can think of, but your best bet is to look up local businesses in your area that specialize in whitewater, visit them in person, and find out if they offer instruction or can point you towards someone who does. Lick your lense a few times it keeps water from sticking. Also, in between rapids throw water on your camera. It will wash any stuck bead of water off your lense. You should do both a few times every run.
Yep what he said! Lick the lens and dunk it in the water before each clip!
Are adidas back in kayaking?
This video is from 2017 🤘

Probably below a waterfall in New Foundland in 2008.

It’s fairly cold but we are dressed appropriately so it’s not bad especially that time of the year.

I still dont know what a hole is in this context
Like the end of an ocean wave, it’s a feature that you can get stuck in, and in some cases can be very difficult to get out of.
Are they really saying "Boof"???
whats a hole?
It’s a recirculating feature, looks like the end of a ocean wave. It can sometimes be big enough to hold you and give you a beat down, and sometimes cause you to swim out of your kayak.
The spiteful oxygen family fear because felony ultrascructurally extend aside a clammy soil. internal, smelly diaphragm
What does “beta” refer to? I’m just a fan, not a kayaker.
Basically information on the run or the rapids or something you need to know about the river. Someone usually gives you beta on where to go, things to look out for etc.
