Thank you! Got all my projects quilted now, so easy and looks great. I thought it had to be quilted with swirls etc but my straight lines look so great, tickled pink with it. Many thanks, Tina xxxxxx 💋❤️
I do have a Large Quilt that I am about to Quilt. This will be the Simplest method for me to use for this particular project.. Thank You for a heads up for me to do, instead of making it difficult with another method..
Why no one has invented an 1 inch quilting foot yet? 1/4 doesn’t do it for most projects. The first tip is awesome, I’m getting that Hera Marker asap. Thank you for a SHORT video and showing on a full sized project.
Have you seen the little guide bars that come with some walking feet? It’s like a little metal bar that you can slide to any size you want to use as a guide. I find them easy to use, but not as accurate as marking the lines. Maybe you could try it!
@@HomemadeEmilyJane I’ve ordered that quilting guide bar, you’ve helped me tremendously. I’ve spend whole day marking lines and started resenting my project. Thank you!
Thanks for the tips. I found them very helpful. In the background on the wall was a wall hanging quilt that was white with different colored triangles. Do you sell that patter? It’s beautiful!
Love your video. I HAVE A QUESTION. Does that spray basting hurt your floor or make it sticky? I've been wanting to try it but was afraid it would make the floor all sticky like spray glue.
thank you! That's a great question. The spray definitely can leave a sticky residue if you get the overspray onto your floors, and some brands of spray are much much worse than others. I am pretty careful when I spray to keep it on the quilt. Most of the time I don't feel the need to swiffer after basting, but giving the floors a little extra love afterwards is probably a good habit I should practice anyway. If you're worried about it, some quilters lay down scrap batting or cardboard pieces near the edges of their quilts while spraying to catch any excess overspray. I hope this helps!
Once I establish the first straight stitch in the center of the quilt (sewing from the middle to the edge), do the remaining seams need to start at the middle and sew to the edge again? Or, can I sew from the edge to the end in one seam?
Great tutorial. I am curious why you quilt from one direction. I have no experience with machine quilting, but would have alternated directions in hopes that things didn't shift. Thanks for your thoughts!
Hi Prima! I typically start in the middle just in case I didn’t baste it well enough and need to do some shifting. But, if you baste it really well then it won’t matter where you start out stitching. Also, I use a 2.5 stitch length for normal cotton backing or a 3 stitch length if I’m using lofty batting or if I have minky backing (which makes the quilt just a little more thick). Happy sewing!
Great question Nicole! Once you’re done quilting it, trim off the excess batting & backing fabric, and then bind the edges of the quilt. This video shows the binding process & I hope you find it helpful! ruclips.net/video/DetjUVrtlT4/видео.html
I'm surprised to see the quilt lying flat and hanging down. It looks like must be causing a lot of drag on the quilt. I thought the quilt always had to be pooled around the sewing machine. Maybe I've been doing it all wrong!😮
Thank u for very helpful tutorial. I have small throat space, so am learning to be patient and slow down!
Thank you !
I've been sewing since 1970. You taught me something new today. I love it! Thank you!
I love to hear that!! ❤️ happy sewing!
Your camera angels, how detailed you are unmatched. Thank you for the wonderful tips!!
Thank you for the encouragement!! 🥰
Awesome!! I did not realize you could mark the fabric with a hara marker! That’s awesome!!!
Lorty, child, wish I could get down in the floor like you do. Good video.
😂
Getting down is ok, it's getting back up again😂

So happy to hear that gloves help with the shoulder pain!! Mine will be here before I quilt my next quilt on my machine :)
You’re going to love them! I also wear long sleeves so I can use my elbows too 😂
Thanks so much! You have saved my sanity. Great tips delivered in a calm clear way. You were a godsend Emily Jane.
Thank you 🥰🥰🥰
Nice video! I appreciate your demonstration on a crib size quilt, many other videos are done on a smaller piece!

Good luck!! Happy sewing! ❤️
Thank you for the tips! New quilter. I've only 100% finished 1 quilt. Baby sized and I stitched in the ditch.

I’m glad I could help! And I agree - marking the lines is not the fun part (but it’s worth it!)
Very informative. Thank you!
Thanks for your kind words! Happy sewing!

Thank you! Good information!
Please make a detailed turorial on squaring up the economy quilt block

It’s best to start in the center and work your way outwards to smooth out any puckers or bunching
Great tutorial. I am curious why you quilt from one direction. I have no experience with machine quilting, but would have alternated directions in hopes that things didn't shift. Thanks for your thoughts!
Alternating directions can cause little puckers between the lines
What basting spray do you use? I tried basing spray once and it didn't hold at all!
I’m a big fan of Odif 505! The one Sulky makes is good too
Do you start in the middle or the at the ends?

What do you use as a guide so the needle meets the line? I hope you know what I mean.
I look at the line a few inches in front of where the needle is and aim for that
Hello where did you get your hare marker from if I'm spelling it right?
This is the one I use & love: amzn.to/3ini7i2
How do you keep from getting your floor all sticky? And how do you clean it if you do?
I have a crawling baby and a golden retriever so I've become a pro at cleaning floors 😉
Hi there! Did you quilt over the marked lines - or just beside of them? Thank you!
I sew directly on the lines ☺️
@@HomemadeEmilyJane Thank you!
could barely hear this video. Thanks for this information.
Thanks! It was one of my first videos so I’ve gotten a lot better at filming & editing since ❤️
So quiet! Sad because it's great info
What are you drawing the lines with?
She used a Hera Marker. Get one in Amazon.
Also what is your stitch length?
Tfs
After you’ve sewn the lines how do you finish the quilt off?
Great question Nicole!

Any tips on your fabric not puckering??
yes! baste it well and sew slowly, but mostly it's all about basting it really well.
Excellent video. What did you used to mark the lines again? That's what I need.
The Hera marker! There’s a link for it in the video description 💕

I find it easiest to keep it flat while doing straight lines. Pooling it up works better if you’re doing more free motion loops!
I can't use the hand movement. My sewing machine and large quilt there is not enough room. I don't make baby quilts
Interesting! So what do you do instead of moving your hands?
I can hardly hear you.
I’m sorry! This is one of my early videos - the quality has gotten better since then ❤️
