    Over the Hills and Far Away is an Old Folk Song from 1700. The Song is Modern Performed from Gary Moore and Nightwish cover it from him. Many German Medieval folk Rock Band are used the Hurdy Gurdy look SALTATIO MORTIS with ,,My Mother told me,, or FEUERSCHWANZ with ,,Warrior of the World united,, or the Bands FAUN, SUBWAY TO SALLY, SCHANDMAUL, IN EXTREMO have Fun

    Nice reaction. She is definitely German and has played with metal bands like Storm Seeker, Alestorm, D'Artagnan and Scardust. The song is a traditionally British folk song that dates back at least to the 17th century: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Over_the_Hills_and_Far_Away_(traditional_song)

      While you are right about Patty, you linked the wrong song. The tradiional song is not related to this Gary Moore song that was actually covered here. The traditional song you linked sounds like this ( 0MR7VihPm2E ). You do realise that there are many different songs with the same name, right? ^^ Even Led Zepplin had a song called "over the hills and far away" ( e6G2gUk3GtU ) and it's not related to any of the other songs.
      This is the right song that was covered:
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Over_the_Hills_and_Far_Away_(Gary_Moore_song)
      This is the original Gary Moore song ( 7IocRCDWB5k ). It became more widely known since the cover by Nightwish ( CwED4C5FJuo )

    Never heard of her and I like her! Need to check her out. Never knew the Hurdy Gurdy sounded so much like Scottish/Irish small pipes or house pipes. My musical tastes are also eclectic. Only two kinds of music, good and bad.

    For see, how her gurdy acts with an e-guitar, look for "Kaufmann & Maid" or for "Farewell" where Patty plays with D'Artagne

    Yes, she is German (as revealed herself answering to fans questions), her real name is Patricia Büchler. And I believe her her gurdy is custom made with sort of added percussion means - it has not just melodic and drone strings but also one or two buzzing on reverse crank moves.

    • @FitZhurdygurdy
      @FitZhurdygurdy Год назад +3

      The buzzing isn't caused by reversing the crank, it's created by very quick and tiny accelerations to the cranking speed which causes an intentionally loose bridge to vibrate against the soundboard.

      It's also worth noting that in live concerts she attaches a little electronic tuner to the instrument. She also has capos on several of the strings so she has been known to retune the drones mid-song.

    Hey Bob,
    First time I've heard this woman. She did a nice job with this. Good voice, the Hurdy Gurdy adds a nice sound to it.
    It's a cover of a Gary Moore song from 1986, but it traces it's roots to a 17th century traditional British song.
    Yes, Nightwish has done a version, with Tarja on an EP in 2001.I recommend the live performance at the 2005 Helsinki show (End of an Era) for their version.
    There is also a version performed at a solo Tarja show, as a duet with Floor.
    All over the board is fine, good music is good music. I seem to lean towards female vocalists myself.
    For some folk rock/metal that has Hurdy Gurdy try FEUERSCHWANZ - Warriors Of The World United (feat Thomas Winkler, Saltatio Mortis & Melissa Bonny)

    Since it's coming up on the holiday season you need to check out her video, "The Yuletide Fiddler." It's the most 'Irish' Christmas song you've ever heard .... except .... that everything in the video, the musicians, the bar, the bartender are all German. If you don't think you can do rock on a hurdy-gurdy check out her cover Ed Sheeran's "Bad Habits." Also, she wrote and performed several of the songs for the fantasy Carnival Row series on Amazon. Finally check out her collaboration with the group D'Artagnan "Farewell."

    Remake of nightwish of a remake of a Gary Moore remake of a Irish song

    • @Bunny99s
      @Bunny99s Год назад

      Not exactly. Gary Moore's song has no relation to the traditional irish song. Neither the melody nor the lyrics. This song here was written by Gary Moore and the story is similar to "Long Black Veil(1959)".
      Having the same title doesn't make two songs related in any way. Led Zeppelin also has a song called "over the hills and far away" and that isn't related to the other two songs as well.
      Not sure why so many people claiming a relationship. Have you actually listened to the traditional irish song from the 17th century ( WOeYPpOblAw )?
