    Interesting they actually cut open the oil filter to inspect it!
    That's a neat step that could be used for basic car maintenance too.
    I love informational videos like this, keep up the great work bro!

      It's been standard practice in Aviation for years now, one additional thing that is becoming common in the last few years, and is considered even more important than examining the Filter Element, is Oil Analysis, costs around $12-$15 per oil change and can detect wear before chunks start coming off to be caught in the Screen or Filter element.

      That's what every dirtbike or atv also gets you see if the crank is eating the washers

      I send my airplane oil out to Blackstone Oil analysis. It's like $25 or $35. They do a whole breakdown. If you do it every time you can see changes hopefully before anything bad happens.

    Thanks - very interesting to see what needs to be done. He makes it sound easy but most professionals do make things look easy.

    With mogas you can run the Rotax up to 100 hours or annually before an oil change, not 50.
    50 hours when running on avgas.
    The 25 hour check and oil change occurs only the first time.
    See the maintenance manual for more details.

    Great informative video Mojo! I love this aircraft. In my mind it is one of the best LSA aircraft a pilot can build and fly for the price offered. It has proven itself for quite sometime now and the bugs have been worked out of the original design. One of your best videos! Can’t wait to see you finish your aircraft and see her fly. Be safe and have some fun!! We are there with you in spirt Sir!!

    Dang Mike, I've been at the hangar every time you've filmed and haven't made it in one yet. Maybe I'll get into a build vid. Also, it's weird seeing Jean go 5 minutes without telling an awful joke. Well done.

    Those plug caps wear away. I've replaced a few and handed out many to guys at my airfield. The threaded spark plug end, eats away at the rod inside the cap. Check that they are not worn or pull away easily. You did say it in your video, its a common thing over looked! Great video by the way! Thank you.

    Sadly my 912iS had problems at 1700hrs. The thrust washer failed on the gear box. Found plastic and metal in the oil tank. A common 912iS problem on the older ones. It was not a serviceable part in the past even on the 1000hr gear box overhaul, was not required to be replaced, as of Jan 2023 this part is now required to be replaced at the gear box overhaul 1000hr. I’ve been told rotax changed engine design so there is a hole in the shaft that sprays oil on the thrust washer parts to lubricate, on earlier engines this was not there. The oil filter and magnetic plug were completely clean. This is due to the washer failing inside the engine and going through to the crankcase where it gets sucked back to the oil tank and the metal lining protects it from going back through oil system. I had drop in oil pressure and rise in oil temp as the debris probably clogged up the oil return line. Hydraulic prop was also lurching, trying to maintain rpm but not getting proper oil flow due to blockage.

    Let us not forget the lovely five year rubber replacement. I'm doing that now on my Sportstar and it sux! But, has to be done. AND...a new fuel pump AND carb diaphragms AND maybe engine mount rubbers...AND....so...just be prepared for the stuff that can jump out at you at certain milestones of hours OR time.

    Great super video, it finish miths that always believe like the engine it's do sofisticate than nobody can maintain it. More simple more advance more advance more efficient. I imagine e that the cist of the engine is higher than a car's, because the production demand, but if every body knows about the reliable of this engines and their simplicity, tuned cars used it, that's for sure. Know I know why in 50 and 60 some cars, Chevrolet and other brands used plane engines. Thanks for this video, maybe you can made one in the Rotax plant and describe the models and prices , and more detailed explanation of the transmission.

    • @andrewlynch17
      @andrewlynch17 3 года назад

      It doesn't HAVE to be replaced, unless you are flying as part of a Part 135 operation. Most private pilots can fly it past 2000 hours if the engine is still healthy. 2000 hours is the manufacturer suggested time

    • @Fjord_Driver
      @Fjord_Driver Год назад

      That's 33 years of flying with proper maintenance! The average private pilot only flies about 60 hours per year. Are you going to keep the plane 33 years?

    The engine block is a tiny bit of it. With direct injection, no gearbox and tight intake and exhaust manifolds, the engine could be tiny.

    Roller bearing engines are very unreliable and very vulnerable to any dirt in the oil. But they make great drone engines.
