The INS Brahmaputra, a guided missile frigate of the Indian Navy known as the 'Raging Rhino', nearly keeled over at Mumbai's Naval Dockyard after a fire broke out on board during its refit on Sunday. In Episode 1488 of #CutTheClutter, Editor-in-chief Shekhar Gupta and Deputy Editor Snehesh Alex Philip look at the record of Navy vessel accidents through the years and discuss why the loss of capital assets and the rate of frequent Navy accidents is worrying.

Unfair comparisons break my heart. It's like comparing a college athlete with potential to a seasoned veteran. Mistakes, timings, and achievements will differ, so drawing parallels is unfair.
In 200 years, US Navy has lost many platforms. Give us 130 more years, and let's compare then.
This isn't about competence or leadership.
From relief and aid missions to our neighbours,
Anti piracy operations, curbing the houthi Rebels, conducting daring rescue operations and keeping our waters safe and maintaining harmony in the region , all of this is in the last 7 months alone.

Why? Because the guy behind did not disengage the gear and took his feet off the clutch. Or look at how we drive. Tailgating is a habit. Our naval culture seems to mirror what most of us follow in our everyday life. Sad!

Basic Naval Architecture. GM = Meta Centric Height (Distance between Vertical Center of Gravity "G" and the Meta Center "M"). Location of M above the center of buoyancy (B) is determined by the moment of the inertia of water plane and the buoyancy of the vessel at that instant. GM needs to be greater than zero to prevent capsize. Anything that floats meets this criterion.

The accidents during refit reflects on the technical capabilities of Naval Dockyards management which is run by Navy. Ship repair and shipbuilding is a civilian function and there is no rational for GOI to keep it under their fold. In most countries the refit and repair are carried out by the private sector shipyards who employ specialist skilled civilian shipbuilding personnel who carry out the job at lesser cost and much more efficiently. It is beyond imagination why taxpayers money is spent on inefficient Naval Dockyards which can be sold to private players. Naval ship operations unfortunately can not be outsourced. Admirals need to improve the quality and effectiveness of the naval personnel.

Submarines have a method of using clicks from each manned position to confirm that an action required prior to changes in dive, depth and surfacing are confirmed by specific stations all over the sub. That incident became a laughing point and a matter of scorn across the world. We lost a P3C equivalent suite mounted onboard an Avro and ALL scientists working on it were killed in that single crash. Sailors or officers dying is a part of their calling. India was governed by the British coz a large number of Indians were ready to side with the British. Please prepare a documentary on why India couldn't developed itself as China did in the last 60 years before present central government came into power. This may be helpful for us to understand that what is not being done by present government to become next China😊. Thanks in advance 🎉.

I generally enjoy your videos, but this is just tragic. Neither of you are qualified experts on shipbuilding or maritime studies or mariners or from even from the Navy - what qualifies you to make a judgment and blame navy before (and that's the serious point) an investigation has been have completed..

Sg, appreciate this topic which otherwise would have been submerged, since the accident has occurred in the dockyard the Chief of dockyard the firefighting head and of course the CO of the Ship are equally responsible and should be cashiered or dismissed. Across the board whether civilians or defence personnel the sense of civic and security responsibilities are very poor. Till the time we’re happy in littering our streets don’t follow the road safety laws, we’ll never improve our safety standards be it in civil or military.

@theprintindia Shekar I am no follower of BJP but the movie showcases not the political party like Congress but resembles BJP thus the movie was cleared to showcase.
I know you try not to showcase your political affiliation but sometime it comes out. Everyone has one in media but we can easily identify here what you are trying to promote 😅.
Anyhow no hard feelings on you every media is biased or has their own emotional connection as we are humans.

    Accidents happen.
I would suggest that before blaming the very people because of whom we have the privilege to sit in an AC room and making random & unsupported allegations - wait for the navy to finish the investigations.🤷🏻🤷🏻🤷🏻

Guys, there is a whole taxpaying (no tax privileges) country of civilians out there who work hard and harder to keep India going .... Get real, and stop playing 'entitled lot'!
