Filipino Catholics tend to be more... relaxed / lax though, compared to say, American Catholics or, in his wife's case, Mexican Catholics. A lot of Filipinos just go to church because they think it's an obligation. He probably was influenced more by his wife. If his mom's Catholic, she must be happy about this.

We have a strong Filipino apostolate in almost every parish in the US. Go to every Filipino house and you see Jesus, Joseph and Mary in our altar. We take our catholic faith seriously. An obligation only, doesn't fly our tradition rooted in faith.
Some churchs sing hymns in Latin. Although I flunked Latin I three times at Pleasantville HS, now I find learning these hymns to be an enjoyable intellectual activity. I suggest the "Sanctus", the "Ave Maria" and the "Salve Regina".

Remember for those who don’t know the word “Catholic” is Ancient Greek translation for “universal” or “of the whole”. The term was used by the early church fathers like St.ignatius of Antioch in 110ad to differentiate and solidify the true faith apart from various spin-offs, Zoroastrian nonsense and misinterpretations, solidified in the canon doctrines and traditions that are essentially timeless. The Catholic church exists outside the confines of trends and fads, don’t ever let anyone even within the church say “we have to get with the times” or “things are different now” this is not what Christianity is about, it’s a timeless template for communion with God, family creation, and perpetuating a graceful human spirit that is capable of creating the heavenly kingdom of god here on earth.
This is so great to hear, all these famous people coming out as Catholics because unfortunately that's who people listen to, famous people. If I had a choice between Catholicism and Orthodoxy, I would definitely go Orthodox. It disturbs me this movement these days towards Catholicism. The orthodox church is much closer to the early church (before 300) than the Catholic church. It really is devoted to holiness and wisdom and reflects the lifestyle of the monks throughout the ages and so on. The Catholic church was the first church but it has become fat and corrupted. When I listen to Catholic apologists there seems to be this somewhat aggressive pride. It's not Christlike at all. "We are the one true church". Catholic doctrine is complex and confusing and while there are many sincere Christ-following Catholics out there, there is this this sense that Catholicism is a culture a bit like Islam is a culture. It seems to me that this movement is based on the fact that the world is full of shifting sands and people are looking for something secure and ancient. Well, orthodoxy is just that. And far more spiritually healthy.
