  • The Chicago Bears Podcast with Pat The Designer and Former Bears Fullback Jason McKie is joined by a special guest, Greg, who brings over three decades of experience working in the NFL.
🏈 Greg shares his belief that the Bears will trade the top pick and stick with Justin Fields, setting the stage for an insightful discussion. The trio delves into the various Offensive Coordinator candidates for the Bears and dissects the critical decisions facing GM Ryan Poles with the 1st overall pick in the draft or sticking with Fields.
🤔 Greg, using his scouting expertise, breaks down the differences between Fields and Caleb Williams, providing valuable insights. They discuss the departure of Tyler Scott and how he didn't fit the Bears' scheme. Pat, J Mack, and Greg round out the episode with a preview of the upcoming NFL Divisional Round games.

Justin really had only one year as a starter. Explain 1st year as a rookie with Matt Nagy enough said, 2nd year THE CHICAGO BEARS TANNNKED for the number 1 pick people you can't count that year 3rd year the Bears went 7-10 and also he was injured for 4 games but with the wrong offense coordinator that's why people don't won't to give up on Justin Fields.

Yeah that’s not how that works, OP. He has been a starter for 2.5 years. Period. Everyone’s path in the NFL is different. Make all the excuses you want. Fields is who is at this moment and you can’t change the past to change who is is as a QB today. Stop it.

I’ve watched their films side by side years 1-3 in college. Williams and Fields are so similar it’s ridiculous. They way they scramble, they way they hold the ball too long, the big arm, plays on the run…. Fields is way bigger and a little faster. Williams seems to have a slightly better arm. Resetting the clock isn’t going to solve anything. I’d be down for drafting a QB to sit behind Fields for at least a year. We have the cap space and the picks to do it if we aren’t going to go all in on Fields and build the best roster we can. We could build a hell of a Roster if we trade that pic down. 3-5 starters out of one draft to rebuild a roster with limited talent would be better than any rookie QB can provide at this point in the Bears rebuilding for a strong roster.

    • @lloydchristmas5698
      @lloydchristmas5698 9 месяцев назад +2

And williams is waaaaay more accurate, is used to not playing with 1st round picks across the board, & isn’t scared to throw the ball into tight windows. Fields is the 4th best QB in the division…and just isn’t a franchise QB. Don’t be afraid to chase great & settle for “I like his intangibles.” Flashes aren’t as helpful to an offense as consistentcy.

I'm not a Fields advocate at all. His playmaking ability is through the roof, but I don't think his ceiling as a passer is much higher than it's at right now. I'm ok with drafting a new qb or with keeping Fields and getting a haul for the number one.
With that said, here's the important thing to remember when it comes to the sport's media. The sport's media's job isn't to help the Bears do the right thing. It's not their job to make sure they win. It's not even their job to be right.
The only job the sports media has is to generate and sustain interest and engagement. If you remember that, then you'll always know to take their perspectives with a grain of salt.

Yeah I been going back and forth; keep JF1 and get a bounty of picks, or roll the dice and dare to be great and that all hinges on how good Caleb Williams is and we don't know. I've done a hundred of these draft sims and tried to keep them as realistic as possible, if you trade out of that pick you can pick up maybe a couple of 2nd rounders, as well as swapping with a Teams first pick, and a 1st rounder next year. If you trade out of # 1, you can get one of the top 3 receivers, and either a LT or an Edge rusher, and pick up one of the top 2 or 3 Safeties, and one of the top 2 centers, probably one of the top 10 RB's and a Tight end. If you take Williams, you have that pick and one other at 9, no one is trading to that spot, you have no 2nd round pick (unless you can get one for JF), there will be no edge worth having, your not getting one of the top centers, your not getting one of the top Safeties, your not getting a running back at all (we've had injuries and a NFL RB career average is 4 years we need another). Choice is build to win now with a lot of other pieces keeping JF1, or take the risk with Williams, which if it pans out you compete every year for a decade. Which choice do you make? Tough decision.

If the bears turn away that big haul for Caleb, you’ll be here crying next year this time when the bears are 4-13. Detroit didn’t jump ship after they went 8-9 after a 3-14 season. The Lions had 2 high first round picks last year too. The Lions could have very well traded those 2 picks for Stroud.

Kap made himself look shallow as fk. Kap was being hypocritical. Bears fans know Justin has had inconsistent play callling, few weapons, (until DJ), no protection from o line. No decent center. New play caller who never called plays in nfl. Build the team around Justin, and use the #1 pick to build faster. If they get Caleb, it will be slower and waiting 2 or 3 years. CJ stroud will get knocked out this weekend as will Jordan love. Love is not a rookie. He’s been there 4 years.

But I did closely look at the tape and the arm strength pops and the funky arm angles remind me of Cutler. He reminds me a lot of Cutler. Maybe a better overall athlete, hope he has a bigger heart. I can certainly see that the powers that be have sent down orders to the sales floor to SELL, SELL, SELL!! I understand it, maybe he is generational, if Justin excels somewhere, for your sake, that is the sake of the talking heads, he’d better be!!

Really interesting read. Im not even a Chicago Sports fan. Im a Raider fan but I find what your front office is doing to be fascinating! Weve done things like this on message boards since the late 90s! You guys are the first time ive seen this possibly being implemented
I'll say right now. Id trade the pick. 3 first rounders is just a start and i wouldnt turn that down! Im not sure how good your scouting department is, but you guys could build something very special if you pick the right guys.
Ive heard rumors about my Raiders trading up for our qb. I dont know if its true or how likely it is. I will say though, if we move up for that pick I hope its not for Caleb. For my Raiders sake, id take Jayden Daniels. Dude has Lamar Jackson upside and i love his demeanor. For Chicago, I think dumping Fields would be a mistake. If i just had to, though...I'd probably take Drake Maye.
What is it about Caleb Williams people love so much? Im not trying to be a jerk or downplay the value of the pick or anything. I just dont see it. I couldn't care less about his fingernails or stupid videos of him being with his mom. My thing is, wheres the leadership? If im running a football team, I want a guy playing qb for me that is a natural leader. It might be me just making assumptions, but to me he doesnt seem like the kind of guy to admit "I messed up." Maybe Im wrong but to me, he comes off as a "ME" guy
Are the rumors true about him not being excited about coming to Chicago? Would he pull an Elway or Eli? Chicago is a fantastic market. Bears fans, just like Raider fans, are super loyal. Sometimes loyal to a fault. If he thinks hes too good for a franchise like the Bears, I wouldnt even want my team to take him. He should be campaigning for Chicago to take him. After all, he should be grateful its not a Cleveland or Arizona coming to draft him. The Bears are in a really unique spot and Anyone worth his weight in salt would be totally stoked to be a part of what you're doing in Chi. He could be the new face of that organization with one of the founding teams in the league. He should be honored for that chance. If he's not, id just take Marvin Harrison or even Drake Maye. You guys very well may be dodging a true nightmare.
Just my .02 but good luck

How can you support a 10-28 QB, the team constantly blows leads & come up short in the fourth, but somehow your opinion matters? No.
A smart GM would get the names of those players (including DJ Moore) and let them know someone gotta take the blame. Both can’t be blameless.

    MOONEY INJURY
The Bears never specifically defined Mooney’s foot/ankle injury that required subsequent surgery.
Although Dez Bryant’s career officially ended after an Achilles Rupture, it’s pretty clear that he was never that same player after suffering a Jones fracture (5th metatarsal injury) that required surgery. IF … this is what happened to Mooney, one must consider that his injury was more impactful than everyone, including Darnell, considered. Like Bryant, Mooney may never be the same again?

Or trade down to #2 or # 3 only but Grab one of the MHJ/Nabers/Odunze/Coleman WR quartet and a OT or EDGE blue chipper (Alt/Fashanu/Turner/Latu) with our first round picks
    -
How’s the last 10-15 No. 1 overall QBs doing?
Not too good except one or two of them right?!
Meanwhile Patrick Mahomes (11th overall), Lamar Jackson (drafted 32nd), and Brock Purdy (Mr Irrelevant aka 262nd) are most of the Playoff Field..
Even the rookie QB phenomenal example ppl use (CJ Stroud) was DRAFTED #2 behind the #1 selected Bryce Young 😅; Joe Burrow didn’t do anything his rookie season and had JAMAR CHASE among other weapons for his sophomore and junior seasons to make that Super Bowl. Matt Stafford had to rescued from a perennial cellar dweller Lions team to win his Super Bowl (just saying)
    -
I’m not saying we keep or not keep Justin..
I’m saying we draft a QB not top10 and develop him properly (key word: PATIENTLY) behind a fully built-to-last personnel funnel team like GB, Chiefs, Eagles and Niners did
