- The NInjago City Workshops (set 71837), released on March 1, will be the 5th installment of the epic Ninjago City lineup of Lego sets. It has some great details and building techniques, but is it good enough to be on par with its legendary predecessors, like the OG Ninjago City, the Docks, the Gardens, or even the Markets? We tackle that in this detailed breakdown of the new set.

It's the worst of the 5 by a good margin, but its still a okay set. If we can get a corner modular next we'd have a full rectangular block of buildings
The workshop is the most exciting to me, when you considering attachments at all four sides make it a potential center of a cross, in a massive block...
@@Dhjdidndbbehhsbbehr you have terrible taste aljaz
@Doxologys should've phrased it differently. The most exciting thing about it is that it can be at the center of a cross. Its by far the least exciting ninjago city set.
Unfortunately it's an inverted corner, where the interior is the side meant to be viewed
@justcoll3ct its got connections on all 4 sides. Can be used as either
This almost looks like a Monkie Kid set rather then a Ninjago modular i.e. verging on the side of playset rather than display piece
It looks like a nice set to disassemble and use in a moc, which might be the way I'm going to use it.
Luckily, this set looks like it can go to the right of Markets without having to remove pieces that overhang from it. Also, it looks like the Markets walkway at the bottom will lead nicely into a covered area in Workshops.
agree
I feel like Ninjago City sets have only been getting better! This one I didn’t love at first but this deconstruction video made me love it wasaaay more
I really want to see a ninjago City set on a 16x32 baseplate. It would be hard to make it look good on its own, but it would be a fantastic way to have a lower price-point set that can maintain the density of the best in the line.
The draconian tourist is a really cool and novel idea
The Minifigures are awesome and disappointing at the same time. Casual Harumi and Twitchy Tim are very awesome to finally get but there’s just not enough. I can’t afford to get this and all those expensive Summer sets to get all the Forbidden Five.
Love this set. Now I get 3 modular Ninjago set to make my Ninjago city feel more like a city.
There is a good side to it though, we finally have Dr. Larow, Dorama, Twitchy Tim, and casual Harumi. Pixal also comes in this set, so if you don’t want to get the Arc Dragon or Zane Combo Mech, and you want to get every Ninjago City set, you won’t have to pay extra money to get Pixal (Zarkt will appear in the Rontu set in the Summer, so it would be cheaper to buy that set to get Zarkt, and you’ll get Rontu to accompany Egalt if you have that set), and the actual building itself is quite nice, with a nice looking crane, and even a mech, which does make for a more enjoyable experience building it. But most importantly of all, if we have to wait another 2 years (like how the Gardens came out 2 years before the Markets, and the Markets came out 2 years before the Workshops) to get the next Ninjago City set, it will be better since they have more time as they probably would have extra time to design it (since the Workshops is smaller, just like how after the City Docks was made, the City Gardens was about 2 times bigger), and Dragons Rising is supposed to end at 100 episodes, enough for 5 seasons, and since Season 3 will be out later in 2025, Season 5 will be out in 2027, meaningful that the next Ninjago City set will not only be bigger, but will probably be based off of the final season of Dragons Rising, making it more special, and, this set isn’t that bad, so while it should’ve been $50 less and have at least 5 more minifigures, it does pave the way for the next one to be bigger and better, and this one isn’t that bad, as it’s just supposed to be the current one, and it will be foreshadowed eventually in about 2 years.
did people really dislike markets? i personally love it more than the rest removing nostalgia of the first one.
It can also be a straight build or, most excitingly, it can be the center of a cross. Probably the worst ninjago city set IMO, but probably a must have for anyone looking to keep up with the sets and building a large cyberpunk city display in the future. As this will allow a very interesting and dense block design.
It looks like a Creator 3 in 1 building set with the open back.
Cool video and great insights. May I ask what cabinets you use behind you for your set displays?
Also dislike that this new set lacks the modular approach of removable levels to acess the actual building units, and insted opts for Monkey Kid's approach of having slide out interiors, with far less detailing
loving it.
It looks fine to me. I think lego was going for a junction setup, which could be pretty useful. Practical, but not as spectacular as previous sets.
It is a shame its not at the price point of city gardens, i feel those extra pieces would have gotten the wow factor with the 2 tower buildings flowing properly together. Unfortunately the big gap is covered by a mech to try and hide this fact...
Least impressive so far! Not colorful enough, Not enough Figs, an a bit overpriced for what were getting imo. Still gonna get it but Not anytime soon as I still Need the Markets. Hopefully goes on sale!
We already have two corner builds. And while it's totally possible to connect two corners together on opposing sides (maybe make a new bridge), there's a ton of options they need to consider. My idea is that this inverted corner design is made so that displays that want to go two modules deep will still look good. In other words, they made what would normally be the backside/alleyway the "face" of the model so that even when placed behind say the gardens, you can still have the all the faces pointed in the right direction.
Except... There's one problem... It's too short. I don't think anyone will want to do a 2x2 or 2x3 display unless they have can display it 360 degrees, faces outward. I understand that they don't want every one of these to be 300+ but this concept would be cooler if it were at least one floor taller (and maybe had a walkway that bridges the top)
I also think that a fair amount of Ninjago City fans are either casual fans of the show or don't have any interest in anything else within the theme. And in those cases, I imagine that having this giant space dedicated to a mech doesn't fit the aesthetic of how THEY see their Ninjago City display which up til now only featured slight cyberpunkish detail and no real combat oriented aspects.
all that for a mighty 0 likes
Been collecting ninjago city sets since it began. Bit disappointed in this coming set...maybe we are too spoilt for choice. Will wait for sale to buy it. A bit of a side note, i notice the drop in minifigures happen the chinese new year trotting lantern set. Had high hopes after the reunion restaurant. Feel the drop in minifigures might be future trend. Thanks for your video
maybe they will do another similar size set that connects to this one??
Is that lego logo really worth 3 times the price of competitors.
Maybe a few years ago, I'd say yes. But some of the recent off brand sets knock Legos own sensless.
Look at FunWhole sets, they provide a light kit with theirs. For a fraction of the price.
Lego are taking the piss out you. And all you do is lube up to allow them to go deeper.
Grow a pair.
Prof. You should make a second channel discussing politics. I would definitely sub
He already discusses Lego like he's giving a TED talk on global geopolitics, so it probably wouldn't be much of a leap 😂
Not for me. Good vid though 👍
I actually like this set a lot, but I need to have a way to remove the mech AND the base for it; I'm actually truly happy that Lego listened and lowered the price a little. Crazy enough for me the Ninjago city Gardens while overall are epic and better than this set, are actually too much of a mess (even though ninjago city is supposed to be very chaotic) that never comes together, neither upclose nor far away and most of the cool techniques feel thrown together and loosely connected. While this is nowhere near that level of greatness it comes together way more nicely even upclose.
I guess you win some you loose some
couldn't agree more
To me this set is "thin soup" -- not as substantial as the other four Ninjago city sets (which I have and prize). I'm going to wait 18-24 months to get this -- although not a Ninjago fan per se I love the other four city sets and bought them immediately -- I use them in a cyberpunk district of my city. I'm not into mechs -- so I would not build it and instead try to create a third "tower" to add to this set instead.
On a technical note, your sound and video are out of sync. Your sound is slightly ahead of your video which is very annoying to watch.
It seems that it might be a transition for the next one, and thus the downgrade
I love your review. This may be one of the worst Ninjago building sets.
3 years back I bought City gardens that has 2500 MORE PIECES...For the same price as this set.
Count me out Lego, its not that its a bad set, but it aint that great either, and charging the same price for two thousand five hundred pieces less pieces? That is little more than daylight robbery.
Gardens was $350 at OG Price but new one is kinda Meh for $250
@@SticklerBricks thanks for pointing that out 👏
I agree, I feel like they made this one just in order to have more time without questions from fans to make another, BETTER (Im praying that's true) Ninjago city
Lego 2025 sets are failure. From Cullen house to this. What's happening to them, they should hire new designers
This is by far the absolute worst of the Ninjago City sets. I HATE that stupid puppet, it’s ugly and scary, not for kids, and certainly not appropriate to display in a house. The mech is nice, but the set uses it too much to fill in space and add value.
Twitchy Tim is nice, but who was asking for him at this point? I care not for Harumi, sure I like her character, but this is a pointless inclusion. The guy in the purple outfit is dead to me, not real Ninjago, and the other minifigs are just reused City minifigs. Ninjago City and Docks didn’t give us any City minifigs, they had unique minifigs all around. Granted, that may be the Movie’s budget talking, but still.
This is easily the bottom of the Ninjago City barrel, and I don’t see it recovering from this. All this R&D to build an overly complicated mech and two towers? Terrible, just terrible.
Rockatoa, Brickticks out!
cry abt it. it looks fine
@@fynsmith4247 I'm have my right to critique things I don't like. It's called free speech. And I don't like this new Ninjago City build, but I will still purchase it. It'll just have to wait to get built until my L-Gauge layout gets an extension.
@ bud fell for the ragebait then liked his own comment
@ lmfao u buying it but u dont like it. whats the point? and idgaf abt your l gauge layout
To the two above, yes, I don't like this set, however, I am a completionist, and it would be counter intuitive of me to refuse a perfectly good Lego set. I admit, as a Ninjago CIty build, it's terrible, but as a Lego product in general, it's fine, absolutely fine.
Aside from that horrid puppet figure... Yeah, that thing will be left as pieces and scrap. Too creepy.
Oh well, like I said, this thing is terrible as a Ninjago City set, but as just another Lego product, it's fine, so take that as you may.
Rockatoa, Brickticks out!
To be honest this is by far one of the worst sets Ninjago has ever released. It's a disgrace to the City Line. The build is incredibly short on parts for one of those modulars to begin with, and then a number of those rooms on that modular or just empty open space the two middle levels on the crane Tower are completely void and empty. And the bottom two on the other Tower is taken up by the garage which doesn't have anything in it pretty much besides the roll up door on the outside. Then a number of the smaller parts budget went into an unnecessary Mech build which in my opinion looks like garbage. But onto the bigger issue of the Minifigures 10 for a set this size and price is frankly unacceptable and a complete slap in the face. Last year tournament Temple City which had more pieces in the same price had at least three more minifigures. And in general a $250 set should have at least 15 Minifigures with quality printing. And the fact that it's not Lego is seemingly lazy or it's borderline lazy it is frankly flat-out lazy and I never thought I would call Lego lazy but unfortunately they are doing such a poor job in recent years of giving quality products at a somewhat reasonable price. Other non Lego brand companies recently have shown that you can print details for an entire set and still make it affordable. It sucks that we have to rely on custom printers to get missing Ninjago figures or prints for Ninjago figures because Lego is too lazy to do so.
I have the others but I am not sure about this one.
It's pretty bad
It's not worse than Markets. Imho : City>Gardens>Docks> Workshops>Markets
I like it. But won´t get it for the same reason I didn´t get the markets: Too many stickers for details. Having the Gardens built with only 4 of the stickers for facade details (substituted many of them with some random asian writing tiles) I can still say it looks great. A little MOC stuff here and there and the lack of prints was no problem. The last two NC sets wouldn´t look good unstickered I think.
