I've been waiting for this series for a long time, I had really high expectations, when I heard that Rick would be working on it, I thought there was nothing to worry about, but I was very wrong. Unfortunately, apart from some scenes, the series was, in my opinion, very poorly written. The dialogues were flat and the scenes lacked any suspense. I agree that it's not the fault of the actors, they have great energy that they couldn't fully show in the series. The worst episodes were those with the casino - where in the book it was described as a perfect place for children, water slides, etc., and in the series there was absolutely NOTHING, boredom and more bad dialogues throughout the entire episode. The action with the waterbeds is also dissapointing. It was a terrifying scene in the book, but in sieries it lasted 2 minutes and did not scare the audience in any way. This series is simply not funny, not interesting and not scary, which unfortunately results in a lackluster creation instead of the cool, suspenseful adventure everyone has been waiting for.
I agree to so many extent here! The casino scene absolutely was a letdown after reading the book, because how easy everything seemed in the tv show, the kids didn't seem tired or bothered by their quest at all. Which definitely didn't help make the lotus casino seem like paradise, "The place you never wanna leave" I personally find the show pretty good in terms of casting and (maybe) some scenes were nice. But the overall writing definitely needs work. Most of it just looks stiff. They gave everything up way too easy. like the scene Grover was explaining everything about the lotus casino or when Percy just "found out" Luke was the traitor. So many parts of the book was TERRIFYING to read for me but the show didn't do that. It was too chill. I do find the fifth episode really good in comparison to the rest of the show. I'm just hoping they could improve for season 2.
