If becoming the sage requires all the witch factors then dosent that mean than other than subaru no one else can become the sage because subaru already has the sloth, greed (envy factor) and the transfer of factors requires killing the current holder he will always live in the final loop so dosent that kinda lock him into becoming the sage eventually
Tough to say. We know from the Gluttonies that apparently multiple people can hold the same factor (unless something weird is going on and the 3 archbishops of gluttony are actually in some weird way the same person) and Satella apparently has the the Envy witch factor so either Flugel didn't have it or they both had it.

@@no_eies9018 My theory is the envy witch factor can be used to mimic the other authorities and gain weaker forms of their powers. That's why we see Satella using so many different times of powers. I think Satella uses her envy authority to give Subaru RBD by using a weakened form of Al's Pride Authority. As a minor point, we can't be sure if Subaru has the envy factor or if his RBD is simply Satella activating her own authority on him. The number of authorities that Subaru possesses appears to have gone from 4 down to 3 between the Web Novel and the Light Novel so it looks like Subaru doesn't personally possess Envy yet.

Something I noticed in that section of LN you brought up is that immediately after that Echidna essentially says that Subaru should know a lot more about the witches and the current situation than he actually does. That Subaru’s entire situation is very weird and something of a massive exception to the norm. This implies that getting invited to a tea party would usually be what someone with the necessary works toward getting the qualifications for it. With how hard it seems to become a sage, Subaru has been going through this process just by naturally going through events. We’re probably just being trolled by Tappei and there’s just too little information to go off of.
There’s a good chance that currently Subaru is the only Sage candidate we’ve met so far. 1. We do know that Shaula recognized Subaru as Flugel by their sense of smell. It’s pretty obvious that what she’s talking about is his miasma since from the beginning Subaru has had it. 2. If we assume for a fact that Flugel had multiple witch factors and is needed to become a safe. Than so far right now Subaru is the only one who can become one. Since the archbishops have witch factors we can’t just say they’re all sage candidates if we look at someone like Betelgeuse. 3. It might be mandatory to at least have relationships with a witch. Not exactly romantically but any type of relationship. We know from Volcanica that Reid, Flugel, and Satella knew each other. And if we assume that Flugel had something with Satella then that might be another requirement. Since we know Satella loves Subaru. 4. Finally someone has already said this but Subaru seems to be the only person to resist Witch Factors to an extent. We do know that he can remember people even if they’ve been erased from reality and as well as Pleiades tower is also able to remember people who have been erased as we look at Emilia. This can cross out Al since he can’t remember Julius after his name was eaten.
My theory is that a sage has mastery over their sins and by extension the authorities associated with them. Conversely, a witch of an archbishop is controlled by their sins and their authority. No one calls Subaru a sage until he has both acquired the sloth factor and rejected the sin of sloth by not running away with Rem.
Emilia being a safe sound off because you must at least be compatible with the factor statella is a perfect example of that plus of the death of greed with reainard Emilia and Subaru there the witch gene went straight into Subaru instead the other other
The story will last 11 arcs and we are already at the 7th one with little informations whatsoever... it looks like everything will be revealed at the very end or maybe arc 10 at least
We're mostly still assuming that Pandora is the big bad. 7 arcs in and as far as we know Subaru and Pandora haven't even been made aware of each other.
I think being a sage candidate means you can back up in time, remember what happened, and then learn from that. That makes the candidates Subaru and Al, but not Emilia.

There's a connection between Echidna, The Sage, and Being an isekai character for sure which can bridge the possibility of becoming a Sage-Candidate. Speaking in terminologies the sage is a long-living magic-caster who is more known for their exceptional wisdom and incredible foresight. Wisdom and Foresight is not the thing we readers would imagine when looking at Subaru, but to the other characters of the franchise? he will be seen as that one guy who has incredible foresight that leads his allies out of danger's grasp. It hasn't been confirmed, but the first sighting of a sage ONLY APPEARED in the time of the witches. If you think about it Echidna should be qualified as a Sage but instead became a witch of Greed because not once she's used her foresight at the guise of wisdom, but rather Greed. I think I heard somewhere that Flugel has a connection with Echidna, and it just might be that the Sages has to have Echidna's "Approval" (a lack of a better word) to become proper Sages. Whether it be the form of a trial like Subaru, or a QnA so to speak about the life of the Isekai character before arriving in the Re: Zero World. The reason why Emilia wouldn't qualify for a sage in her trial, would be because Echidna already knows about her and/or does not find her story interesting, as compared to the isekai characters who have lives outside of Re: Zero world and outside the reaches of Echidna's seemingly omniscient mind. That part's an assumption based off of Witch authorities not having as much a conceptual effect on Isekai characters, see the batenkaitos plundering of names and memories. Needless to say every Isekai character in Re: Zero are nothing short of amazing, absolutely phenomenal. Hoshin started an entire nation with his Wisdom as a merchant, and Flugel saving the world alongside two other heroes. Aldebaran has a reality-affecting ability and Subaru has a time-looping ability. However you look at it, each one can easily be associated with the traits of a Sage, it being wisdom and foresight. Echidna could have been a Sage, but she is no Hero, she is a Witch of Greed. Note: I'm fairly certain Echidna and The Sage knows each other judging by Kasaneru Echidna's remarks about help from the sage being unrealistic. Other Note: These are all an educated guess lmfao.
I'm personally sure on this idea of mine that says anyone who has the potential to overcome all the sins either through curse or blessing is someone candidate to being a Sage. There are people that can only live their lives through the lense of one sin, they can't become a sage, people who *can* experience all since but get drowned in life by one could have been a candidate but they won't become one either. Subaru is an exception because, with RBD he can live the intensity of any of the sins, dying breathing that concept and come back to a checkpoint with his sanity safe. He's reached the point where in concept he's a supernatural figure in the re: zero world, normal people would dread in their souls to the sight of Gospels and Witches, yet as someone basic and virtually zero blessings he's still fine despite it all.
for what i could find in the novel materials, extra stories included, we know that: 1) flugel which is a sage did possessed at least 2 witch factors -- emilia second trial when petelgeuse and regulus talk to eachother it is inferred he used the same box with sage bones to acquire the authority of greed 2) in the extra story after tea witch party, we get to now that a sage can resist the effect of every miasma from every witch, which is the same power archbishop have by the way (see petelgeuse fight and his Sloth miasma inducing crazyness). also a sage can use the power of all the witches, as stated by echidna herself. (this can be methaporical or phisical) 3) the pleiades watchtower rules ignores the effects of authorities, since emilia is recognised by raid as someone who beaten the trial despite the authority of greed stripped her from her name. since that tower costruction is connected to the sage we can infer a sage has resistance/immunity to authorities as well. We can say that a sage probably has the duty to keep authorities sealed away from the world so that nothing bad could happen. Thats all we can say for now

Honestly, I forgot about this scene until now. I feel kinda disappointed that it was not used in the show, yet also kinda intrigued that they made that scene just for the trailer.
This might explain why Pride Subaru didn't receive any authority (possibly witchfactor) since he never met Echidna in the tea party so he never became a Sage Candidate.
Well he got the first witch factor when he killed Petelguese before he met Echidna but you do raise a point. Pride Subaru didn't seem to acquire any witch factors in spite of killing at least two sin archbishops that we know of. It's kind of odd that he didn't get their factors. One possibility is that for each witch factor he obtains there is a complimentary IF story that shows Subaru overcoming that 'sin.' Perhaps the problem was that the Pride Subaru never overcame his Sloth or his Greed and thus was not compatible with the witch factors in this time line.
I think he has all the factors he just cant activate the authorities because he never met echidna still its wierd that his authorities dont activate without dona tea
Nice video. I don't have much to add but truthfully I do hope Subaru becomes the Sage rather than Emilia. I know the whole series is about Subaru being weak and Subaru suffering but I like the "hero's journey" and I'm hoping that by the end of the series Subaru actually does obtain some real power. RPGs in general and isekais in particular tend to be power fantasies. I love how Subaru doesn't have power at first but I think the best ending would be if by the end Subaru does gain power and can stand beside Emilia as an equal because by then he has earned that power. It wasn't given to him on a silver platter he fought and leveled his way up throughout the series and in arc 11 he should be able to help fight the raid boss once he's geared up at max level.
I agree. Right now, Emilia is important enough for the main plot. She have her own mystery about her parents, being the witch’s daughter(Told by Echidna), Have the 1 of 2 key of ??? in the frozen forest, being the ruler candidate etc. Even if Emilia is Tappei’s waifu(I believe it’s a fact), I doubt he would just make her become too perfect, too powerful or stole too much spotlight from other character(Especially Subaru). Only the bad writer would have done that and I would be so pissed if he done so.

Emilia is extremely powerful but she is also currently an overgrown child who is slowly becoming wiser and more determined due to her experiences and Subaru's influence. Prior to Arc 4 she seemed willing to give up very easily and was also cripplingly naive. Subaru is actually fairly wise and his determination is inhuman. I'm not sure he really has a lot of character growth left to go through, he really has established himself as a hero in a pinch already. I really want to see Subaru gain the kind of power Emilia possesses because arguably he has earned it and Emilia growing as a character while Subaru does not have much character growth to experience and he would need to grow in terms of capability. The only remaining character growth I can think of for Subaru is deciding that he needs to let the people he cares about go 'for the greater good' and I SO don't want to see that ending. I've often wondered if the end of re:zero was intended to be Emilia making a heroic sacrifice for the sake of the world at the cost of her life or existence in this world and Subaru needing to accept that. Come on Tappei, don't be cruel. The poor kid has suffered enough already.

It's true that Satella already taught him in arc 4 but I think arc 4 is about Subaru stop rely on RBD and let others take control of their own life and bear their own burden instead of trying to solve their problem for them and sheild them from everything like what Puck did to Emilia(That why Puck broking the contract is one of the cause of Emilia's growth) . The moment that snap Subaru out of wanting to keep abusing RBD is the realization he have the people that love him and not that he should love himself. The evidence is mention of self harm in arc 6 and the fact that everyone else grow so fast that Subaru felt inferior to them. I think Arc 6 is about Amnesia Subaru learning to believe in himself instead of trying to murder and get the Subaru that he believe is the hero back. I believe it will motivate him to train even harder because remember, the royal selection have 3 year and it's currently 1 year where the WN left off. This mean that Subaru will be stronger as time pass and arc 5-6 development of everyon else serve as a motivation for him to keep improve his capability. Arc 7 and 8 might be where Subaru improve a lot but still see himself as not good enough and start to fall under depression that he don't deserve his people's love. That when the suffering kick in just like Arc 3 where he become emotionally unstable, but the one taking Ep.18 Rem's role this time is Emilia who confess her love for him(I predict that it will happen at Arc 8 because 1. Following the pattern that 2 arc always happens immediately after one another 1-2/3-4/5-6. And Tappei Q&A state that Subaru will get kidnapped by the witch cult at some point. If arc 7 and 8 are connected then Subaru likely get kidnapped at the end of Arc 7 because petra will appear again in Arc 8 signifies that arc 8 might be about Emilia's camp. 2. Remember that Sirius get captured in arc 5. I think Sirius will be the one leading Emilia's camp to rescue Subaru at the witch cult so that they would be defeated by Capella and possibly pandora. 3. The reason arc 5 didn't have theme of sin vs virtue for Subaru is because it have to highlight Subaru's growth after 1 year instead. I believe that if these arc follow the same pattern, then Arc 7 would be the same as Arc 5 and Arc 8 would be the theme of LUST and Love. If thing follow this pattern, then this prediction will match perfectly. Arc 8 will be hell loop of Subaru try to Survive the witch cult and Capella alone like arc 3 and Emilia would be the one snap himself out of the self hatred by point out what she love about him just like Rem did, but this time it will make more impact on Subaru because Emilia will be the one confess to him and trigger his SECOND TRANSFORMATION AS A PROTAGONIST Tappei mention) I believe that I just went overboard there but well... I have a theory that 1 of the major battle in the final arc will be Subaru vs all the archbishop soul inside citadel of shadow(when he lose control of all the witch factor) where Subaru overcome every flaw he have up to that point, he will keep dying, revive and fighting the never endings fight until he defeat all of them and mastered all the authority he have in the process. Unlock his full potential in term of power and using it to turn the tide of the final battle. That would be the moment everyone in the battlefield see him as the great sage. As for what lead up to that point, I have absolutely no idea. Ps. That might be the last transformation of Subaru as a Protagonist.

I don't recall Roswall ever mentioning being a sage. He's told Subaru that losing the people important to him was important in Subaru hardening and becoming perfected (i.e. just like Roswaal)
Roswaal specifically said that he created the situation in arc 4 to harden him and turn him into a knight ridden in wound so that he will walk the path of a "Sage". However, Subaru chose to save everything, which is a much thorny path so the path of a "Knight". From my understanding, what Roswaal tried to do is to make him walk that path because Sages usually suffer a lot while Knights are more keen on protecting.
Not particularly relevant, but I wonder what How Subaru ended up in the middle of Luginica, no one really reacted like he just appeared out of no where, and he had his phone and bag of food, but what if his memories had been erased, and he had actually went though a while life without dieing, met satella, fell in love, but made some contract and gained rbd, but after during for the first time, he sent back to when he first entered the world, so without relaxing had actually met satella, somehow, the entire existence of such an idea is mostly based on how it would explain him knowing satella, just wanted to throw some Subaru ideas out there
I personally think that Satella is also a sage candidate because of the watchtower handprints. Maybe there was a past Garfiel equivalent so Flugel, Satella and the garfiel equivalent could be the Sage trio? Maybe this garfiel equivalent might be whom Volcanica refered to as Patrasche. Also what if Subaru and Emilia become the sages. These could be the hero/ heroine transformation tapei refers to?
Well we have to do a lot of speculating here because I'm really sure we don't know what the hell happened four hundred years ago or how Satella was involved in it. Personally, I really hope that in arc 11 Subaru does gain real power and become someone who can stand beside Emilia as an equal by gathering all the Authorities. I think that would be the perfect way to pay off the hero's journey since by arc 11 by most estimations Subaru would have earned the right to be an overpowered badass. RPGs are all about slowly gaining power and skills until you're ready to fight the boss.

'Gathering' all authorities is imo the best route to go showing Subaru's character growth considering how all the sins could be found in subaru and yet subaru chooses virtues. Also i don't think Subaru would be a owerpowered badass since the authorities come at a price (cause exhaustion and fatigue upon use). Maybe the main route is overcoming those and tapei could make an if route in which Subaru loses control of the authorities
@@jinx3241 My theory is that its not that the authorities come with a price (as a matter of fact if your compatible with the factor I'd argue that we really have seen no evidence of the authorities extracting a price), it's that the the wielder becomes corrupted by them because they are so powerful. The authorities can only be used safely to their full potential by someone who has overcome those flaws in themselves; i.e. a sage. Subaru does struggle to use his authorities but he has only had them for a few months at most. I assume like anything else he'll be able to use them easily with more practice.

@@LuckySevn717 True but by then he is able to use it effectively to crush Regulus's heart when its in Emilia. Subaru's unseen hand is not a weapon (or at least not an effective weapon yet) and we can debate why it seems weaker than Petelguese's version and if that might change. Petelguese was explicitly not compatible with the witch factor so this might be a hint that because Subaru can control his witch factor (as opposed to the factor controlling him) it's going to be weaker until he achieves mastery over it. Just an idea. A possible alternate theory might be that he struggles with unseen hand because that is NOT his sloth ability. The author claims that the witch factor gives everyone an ability based on their personality. Subaru didn't get a 'new' version of a sloth ability. At the moment Subaru is trying to copy the arts of the bag guys instead of using the Authorities organically so his versions of the bad guys abilities are limited. Subaru's mastery over Greed seems to be pretty significant in Arc 6 and it may also be worth noting that he's using a power Regulus didn't seem to have (or would never have bothered to use due to his narcissism) and is in fact a complete reversal of how Regulus used his power.
Hasn't Emilia been called The Witch of Glaciation? Are we sure she doesn't have her own, natural born, Witch Factor? I haven't read all the side stories, but I have heard that there were other Witches besides the "sin" witches. Also, does Garfiel actually have the qualifications to attend a tea party? Iirc he only took the 1st trial in Echidna's tomb, I don't remember him actually attending a tea party in the webnovel, light novel, or anime.
I thik a qaulification is where a person is given a chooise between a sin and a virtue and they have to pick the virtue for subaru he took the 3 virtues in the first 3 arcs then when arc 4 he chose the sin instead of a virtue the sin of greed wich is represented of his will to save everybody that needed him instead of one person and roswaal comments on this at the ceremony where he states instead of becoming a sage canidate he became a fool instead.
@@theonewhoasked7254 I think Envy allows you to make weak copies of the other Authority powers. If Al is Pride then he has the ability to redo certain phenomenon at will. Satella might be using the same trick on Subaru but since her replication of the Authority of Pride is weaker, Subaru needs to die to trigger it and it's a flat temporal rewind rather than forcing people to experience their enemy coming back over and over again. We've also seen Satella replicate the Unseen Hand and her immortality might be a weaker form of Pandora's authority. It's just an idea. P.S. The story says that Satella consumed the other witches but we know how they each died and Satella doesn't appear to have been involved. Maybe people thought she consumed the others purely because she has the power to copy their abilities and a legend sprung up around that.

It was actually.comfirmed in a short story after Echidna possessed ryuzu and became Omega...they ran into a group of scavengers and Echidna merely revealed her spirit from with ryuzu. With ryuzu alone the people didn't react but when Echidna appeared....let's say in addition to vomit they also suicide or died from shock...and I'm talking about a group of 30 something people and it all happened withing 20 or 30 seconds. The witches are borderline eldritch horrors if that's how people react
@@rushalias8511 Actually, when Echidna reveals herself, she also activates her miasma, which is why those people were going crazy, and using her own miasma that way seems to be exclusive to Echidna.

One, on your sage candidate checklist there was a souls born reference that I found on point. Get gud, seriously subaru would’ve done better if he played some bloodborne before he got transferred. Second, doesn’t Roswell give examples on the state of mind a sage has to be in to? Something along the lines of loosing everything so his mentality is harder to break? Let me know if I’m wrong but I think it’s in the sanctuary during one of their arguments and he tells subaru how he’s sposed to become a sage for his plans.
garfiel may not be a sage candidate because if one of the requirements is to be able to use a witch factor he couldn't because in a q and a it was said that people with Divine protection could not have a witch factor
this is actually incorrect, what the QNA stated was that if you had a DP and you obtained a witch factor, the DP would disappear since DPs and Witch factors are anti thesis of each other.
Volcanica recognizes Pastrasche and calls her by name. That name isn't from the new world it's Japanese and a fairly obscure anime reference. I don't think there is anyway for the series to tie that together except by time travel shenanigans. Even if Subaru was Flugel's reincarnation it wouldn't be possible for the land dragon to have the same name because the anime reference only goes back to 1997.
Emilia never went to the witches tea party. She only took the trial it’s different. She never sat around just talking with Echidna in that grassy field. Echidna hates her and would never invite her. The qualification for being invited to the tea party is wanting to “know” with all your mind and body. She has the qualification for taking the trial, which I believe you may have confused with going to the witch’s tea party.
That isnt the case, in volume 15 emilia tells minerva that she looks forward to meeting and having tea together with all the witches in the future, and from memory in the WN emilia drank the tea.

Echidna took away his ability to take the trials but I personally doubt that she has the power to revoke his sage potential. Remember the author says that being a sage requires the ability to attend the tea party, not actually getting invited. I'd speculate that it has more to do with some kind of connection with the Witch's powers that allow them to bring the person into Echidna's 'dream.'

Tough to say. We know from the Gluttonies that apparently multiple people can hold the same factor (unless something weird is going on and the 3 archbishops of gluttony are actually in some weird way the same person) and Satella apparently has the the Envy witch factor so either Flugel didn't have it or they both had it.

@@no_eies9018 My theory is the envy witch factor can be used to mimic the other authorities and gain weaker forms of their powers. That's why we see Satella using so many different times of powers. I think Satella uses her envy authority to give Subaru RBD by using a weakened form of Al's Pride Authority.
As a minor point, we can't be sure if Subaru has the envy factor or if his RBD is simply Satella activating her own authority on him. The number of authorities that Subaru possesses appears to have gone from 4 down to 3 between the Web Novel and the Light Novel so it looks like Subaru doesn't personally possess Envy yet.

Something I noticed in that section of LN you brought up is that immediately after that Echidna essentially says that Subaru should know a lot more about the witches and the current situation than he actually does. That Subaru’s entire situation is very weird and something of a massive exception to the norm. This implies that getting invited to a tea party would usually be what someone with the necessary works toward getting the qualifications for it. With how hard it seems to become a sage, Subaru has been going through this process just by naturally going through events. We’re probably just being trolled by Tappei and there’s just too little information to go off of.

There’s a good chance that currently Subaru is the only Sage candidate we’ve met so far.
1. We do know that Shaula recognized Subaru as Flugel by their sense of smell. It’s pretty obvious that what she’s talking about is his miasma since from the beginning Subaru has had it.
2. If we assume for a fact that Flugel had multiple witch factors and is needed to become a safe. Than so far right now Subaru is the only one who can become one. Since the archbishops have witch factors we can’t just say they’re all sage candidates if we look at someone like Betelgeuse.
3. It might be mandatory to at least have relationships with a witch. Not exactly romantically but any type of relationship. We know from Volcanica that Reid, Flugel, and Satella knew each other. And if we assume that Flugel had something with Satella then that might be another requirement. Since we know Satella loves Subaru.
4. Finally someone has already said this but Subaru seems to be the only person to resist Witch Factors to an extent. We do know that he can remember people even if they’ve been erased from reality and as well as Pleiades tower is also able to remember people who have been erased as we look at Emilia. This can cross out Al since he can’t remember Julius after his name was eaten.
My theory is that a sage has mastery over their sins and by extension the authorities associated with them. Conversely, a witch of an archbishop is controlled by their sins and their authority. No one calls Subaru a sage until he has both acquired the sloth factor and rejected the sin of sloth by not running away with Rem.

There's a connection between Echidna, The Sage, and Being an isekai character for sure which can bridge the possibility of becoming a Sage-Candidate.
Speaking in terminologies the sage is a long-living magic-caster who is more known for their exceptional wisdom and incredible foresight. Wisdom and Foresight is not the thing we readers would imagine when looking at Subaru, but to the other characters of the franchise? he will be seen as that one guy who has incredible foresight that leads his allies out of danger's grasp.
It hasn't been confirmed, but the first sighting of a sage ONLY APPEARED in the time of the witches. If you think about it Echidna should be qualified as a Sage but instead became a witch of Greed because not once she's used her foresight at the guise of wisdom, but rather Greed.
I think I heard somewhere that Flugel has a connection with Echidna, and it just might be that the Sages has to have Echidna's "Approval" (a lack of a better word) to become proper Sages. Whether it be the form of a trial like Subaru, or a QnA so to speak about the life of the Isekai character before arriving in the Re: Zero World.
The reason why Emilia wouldn't qualify for a sage in her trial, would be because Echidna already knows about her and/or does not find her story interesting, as compared to the isekai characters who have lives outside of Re: Zero world and outside the reaches of Echidna's seemingly omniscient mind.
That part's an assumption based off of Witch authorities not having as much a conceptual effect on Isekai characters, see the batenkaitos plundering of names and memories.
Needless to say every Isekai character in Re: Zero are nothing short of amazing, absolutely phenomenal. Hoshin started an entire nation with his Wisdom as a merchant, and Flugel saving the world alongside two other heroes. Aldebaran has a reality-affecting ability and Subaru has a time-looping ability.
However you look at it, each one can easily be associated with the traits of a Sage, it being wisdom and foresight. Echidna could have been a Sage, but she is no Hero, she is a Witch of Greed.
Note: I'm fairly certain Echidna and The Sage knows each other judging by Kasaneru Echidna's remarks about help from the sage being unrealistic.

I'm personally sure on this idea of mine that says anyone who has the potential to overcome all the sins either through curse or blessing is someone candidate to being a Sage. There are people that can only live their lives through the lense of one sin, they can't become a sage, people who *can* experience all since but get drowned in life by one could have been a candidate but they won't become one either. Subaru is an exception because, with RBD he can live the intensity of any of the sins, dying breathing that concept and come back to a checkpoint with his sanity safe. He's reached the point where in concept he's a supernatural figure in the re: zero world, normal people would dread in their souls to the sight of Gospels and Witches, yet as someone basic and virtually zero blessings he's still fine despite it all.

for what i could find in the novel materials, extra stories included, we know that:
1) flugel which is a sage did possessed at least 2 witch factors -- emilia second trial when petelgeuse and regulus talk to eachother it is inferred he used the same box with sage bones to acquire the authority of greed
2) in the extra story after tea witch party, we get to now that a sage can resist the effect of every miasma from every witch, which is the same power archbishop have by the way (see petelgeuse fight and his Sloth miasma inducing crazyness). also a sage can use the power of all the witches, as stated by echidna herself. (this can be methaporical or phisical)
3) the pleiades watchtower rules ignores the effects of authorities, since emilia is recognised by raid as someone who beaten the trial despite the authority of greed stripped her from her name. since that tower costruction is connected to the sage we can infer a sage has resistance/immunity to authorities as well.
We can say that a sage probably has the duty to keep authorities sealed away from the world so that nothing bad could happen. Thats all we can say for now

There is no backround on that scene, the corpses are just symbolism of RBD or the second trial.

This might explain why Pride Subaru didn't receive any authority (possibly witchfactor) since he never met Echidna in the tea party so he never became a Sage Candidate.
Well he got the first witch factor when he killed Petelguese before he met Echidna but you do raise a point. Pride Subaru didn't seem to acquire any witch factors in spite of killing at least two sin archbishops that we know of. It's kind of odd that he didn't get their factors. One possibility is that for each witch factor he obtains there is a complimentary IF story that shows Subaru overcoming that 'sin.' Perhaps the problem was that the Pride Subaru never overcame his Sloth or his Greed and thus was not compatible with the witch factors in this time line.

Nice video. I don't have much to add but truthfully I do hope Subaru becomes the Sage rather than Emilia. I know the whole series is about Subaru being weak and Subaru suffering but I like the "hero's journey" and I'm hoping that by the end of the series Subaru actually does obtain some real power. RPGs in general and isekais in particular tend to be power fantasies. I love how Subaru doesn't have power at first but I think the best ending would be if by the end Subaru does gain power and can stand beside Emilia as an equal because by then he has earned that power. It wasn't given to him on a silver platter he fought and leveled his way up throughout the series and in arc 11 he should be able to help fight the raid boss once he's geared up at max level.
I agree. Right now, Emilia is important enough for the main plot. She have her own mystery about her parents, being the witch’s daughter(Told by Echidna), Have the 1 of 2 key of ??? in the frozen forest, being the ruler candidate etc. Even if Emilia is Tappei’s waifu(I believe it’s a fact), I doubt he would just make her become too perfect, too powerful or stole too much spotlight from other character(Especially Subaru). Only the bad writer would have done that and I would be so pissed if he done so.

Emilia is extremely powerful but she is also currently an overgrown child who is slowly becoming wiser and more determined due to her experiences and Subaru's influence. Prior to Arc 4 she seemed willing to give up very easily and was also cripplingly naive. Subaru is actually fairly wise and his determination is inhuman. I'm not sure he really has a lot of character growth left to go through, he really has established himself as a hero in a pinch already. I really want to see Subaru gain the kind of power Emilia possesses because arguably he has earned it and Emilia growing as a character while Subaru does not have much character growth to experience and he would need to grow in terms of capability. The only remaining character growth I can think of for Subaru is deciding that he needs to let the people he cares about go 'for the greater good' and I SO don't want to see that ending. I've often wondered if the end of re:zero was intended to be Emilia making a heroic sacrifice for the sake of the world at the cost of her life or existence in this world and Subaru needing to accept that. Come on Tappei, don't be cruel. The poor kid has suffered enough already.

It's true that Satella already taught him in arc 4 but I think arc 4 is about Subaru stop rely on RBD and let others take control of their own life and bear their own burden instead of trying to solve their problem for them and sheild them from everything like what Puck did to Emilia(That why Puck broking the contract is one of the cause of Emilia's growth) . The moment that snap Subaru out of wanting to keep abusing RBD is the realization he have the people that love him and not that he should love himself. The evidence is mention of self harm in arc 6 and the fact that everyone else grow so fast that Subaru felt inferior to them. I think Arc 6 is about Amnesia Subaru learning to believe in himself instead of trying to murder and get the Subaru that he believe is the hero back. I believe it will motivate him to train even harder because remember, the royal selection have 3 year and it's currently 1 year where the WN left off. This mean that Subaru will be stronger as time pass and arc 5-6 development of everyon else serve as a motivation for him to keep improve his capability. Arc 7 and 8 might be where Subaru improve a lot but still see himself as not good enough and start to fall under depression that he don't deserve his people's love. That when the suffering kick in just like Arc 3 where he become emotionally unstable, but the one taking Ep.18 Rem's role this time is Emilia who confess her love for him(I predict that it will happen at Arc 8 because
1. Following the pattern that 2 arc always happens immediately after one another 1-2/3-4/5-6. And Tappei Q&A state that Subaru will get kidnapped by the witch cult at some point. If arc 7 and 8 are connected then Subaru likely get kidnapped at the end of Arc 7 because petra will appear again in Arc 8 signifies that arc 8 might be about Emilia's camp.
2. Remember that Sirius get captured in arc 5. I think Sirius will be the one leading Emilia's camp to rescue Subaru at the witch cult so that they would be defeated by Capella and possibly pandora.
3. The reason arc 5 didn't have theme of sin vs virtue for Subaru is because it have to highlight Subaru's growth after 1 year instead. I believe that if these arc follow the same pattern, then Arc 7 would be the same as Arc 5 and Arc 8 would be the theme of LUST and Love.
If thing follow this pattern, then this prediction will match perfectly. Arc 8 will be hell loop of Subaru try to Survive the witch cult and Capella alone like arc 3 and Emilia would be the one snap himself out of the self hatred by point out what she love about him just like Rem did, but this time it will make more impact on Subaru because Emilia will be the one confess to him and trigger his SECOND TRANSFORMATION AS A PROTAGONIST Tappei mention)

I have a theory that 1 of the major battle in the final arc will be Subaru vs all the archbishop soul inside citadel of shadow(when he lose control of all the witch factor) where Subaru overcome every flaw he have up to that point, he will keep dying, revive and fighting the never endings fight until he defeat all of them and mastered all the authority he have in the process. Unlock his full potential in term of power and using it to turn the tide of the final battle. That would be the moment everyone in the battlefield see him as the great sage. As for what lead up to that point, I have absolutely no idea.

I don't recall Roswall ever mentioning being a sage. He's told Subaru that losing the people important to him was important in Subaru hardening and becoming perfected (i.e. just like Roswaal)
Roswaal specifically said that he created the situation in arc 4 to harden him and turn him into a knight ridden in wound so that he will walk the path of a "Sage". However, Subaru chose to save everything, which is a much thorny path so the path of a "Knight".
From my understanding, what Roswaal tried to do is to make him walk that path because Sages usually suffer a lot while Knights are more keen on protecting.

Well we have to do a lot of speculating here because I'm really sure we don't know what the hell happened four hundred years ago or how Satella was involved in it. Personally, I really hope that in arc 11 Subaru does gain real power and become someone who can stand beside Emilia as an equal by gathering all the Authorities. I think that would be the perfect way to pay off the hero's journey since by arc 11 by most estimations Subaru would have earned the right to be an overpowered badass. RPGs are all about slowly gaining power and skills until you're ready to fight the boss.
@@mattmagliocca956 yep agreed. 'Gathering' all authorities is imo the best route to go showing Subaru's character growth considering how all the sins could be found in subaru and yet subaru chooses virtues.
Also i don't think Subaru would be a owerpowered badass since the authorities come at a price (cause exhaustion and fatigue upon use). Maybe the main route is overcoming those and tapei could make an if route in which Subaru loses control of the authorities
@@jinx3241 My theory is that its not that the authorities come with a price (as a matter of fact if your compatible with the factor I'd argue that we really have seen no evidence of the authorities extracting a price), it's that the the wielder becomes corrupted by them because they are so powerful. The authorities can only be used safely to their full potential by someone who has overcome those flaws in themselves; i.e. a sage. Subaru does struggle to use his authorities but he has only had them for a few months at most. I assume like anything else he'll be able to use them easily with more practice.
@@mattmagliocca956 Well, by the time he escapes Sanctuary to the beginning of Arc 5, a year passes so he has had his Authority of Sloth for a little over a year. Although, I do like your prediction where they can be used by someone who has overcome their sin. That would prove to be an interesting concept.
@@LuckySevn717 True but by then he is able to use it effectively to crush Regulus's heart when its in Emilia. Subaru's unseen hand is not a weapon (or at least not an effective weapon yet) and we can debate why it seems weaker than Petelguese's version and if that might change. Petelguese was explicitly not compatible with the witch factor so this might be a hint that because Subaru can control his witch factor (as opposed to the factor controlling him) it's going to be weaker until he achieves mastery over it. Just an idea.
A possible alternate theory might be that he struggles with unseen hand because that is NOT his sloth ability. The author claims that the witch factor gives everyone an ability based on their personality. Subaru didn't get a 'new' version of a sloth ability. At the moment Subaru is trying to copy the arts of the bag guys instead of using the Authorities organically so his versions of the bad guys abilities are limited. Subaru's mastery over Greed seems to be pretty significant in Arc 6 and it may also be worth noting that he's using a power Regulus didn't seem to have (or would never have bothered to use due to his narcissism) and is in fact a complete reversal of how Regulus used his power.
Hasn't Emilia been called The Witch of Glaciation? Are we sure she doesn't have her own, natural born, Witch Factor? I haven't read all the side stories, but I have heard that there were other Witches besides the "sin" witches.
Also, does Garfiel actually have the qualifications to attend a tea party? Iirc he only took the 1st trial in Echidna's tomb, I don't remember him actually attending a tea party in the webnovel, light novel, or anime.
I thik a qaulification is where a person is given a chooise between a sin and a virtue and they have to pick the virtue for subaru he took the 3 virtues in the first 3 arcs then when arc 4 he chose the sin instead of a virtue the sin of greed wich is represented of his will to save everybody that needed him instead of one person and roswaal comments on this at the ceremony where he states instead of becoming a sage canidate he became a fool instead.

@@theonewhoasked7254 I think Envy allows you to make weak copies of the other Authority powers. If Al is Pride then he has the ability to redo certain phenomenon at will. Satella might be using the same trick on Subaru but since her replication of the Authority of Pride is weaker, Subaru needs to die to trigger it and it's a flat temporal rewind rather than forcing people to experience their enemy coming back over and over again. We've also seen Satella replicate the Unseen Hand and her immortality might be a weaker form of Pandora's authority. It's just an idea.
P.S.
The story says that Satella consumed the other witches but we know how they each died and Satella doesn't appear to have been involved. Maybe people thought she consumed the others purely because she has the power to copy their abilities and a legend sprung up around that.

I think him being a sage has somethingto do with being able to withstand or being able to see or understand witches authorities. There has been some hints that Subaru somehow is immune to certain influences of the cultist powers. Like seeing the hands and the control of the witch of lust. It was actually.comfirmed in a short story after Echidna possessed ryuzu and became Omega...they ran into a group of scavengers and Echidna merely revealed her spirit from with ryuzu. With ryuzu alone the people didn't react but when Echidna appeared....let's say in addition to vomit they also suicide or died from shock...and I'm talking about a group of 30 something people and it all happened withing 20 or 30 seconds.

One, on your sage candidate checklist there was a souls born reference that I found on point. Get gud, seriously subaru would’ve done better if he played some bloodborne before he got transferred. Second, doesn’t Roswell give examples on the state of mind a sage has to be in to? Something along the lines of loosing everything so his mentality is harder to break? Volcanica recognizes Pastrasche and calls her by name. That name isn't from the new world it's Japanese and a fairly obscure anime reference. I don't think there is anyway for the series to tie that together except by time travel shenanigans. Even if Subaru was Flugel's reincarnation it wouldn't be possible for the land dragon to have the same name because the anime reference only goes back to 1997.
Emilia never went to the witches tea party. She only took the trial it’s different. She never sat around just talking with Echidna in that grassy field. Echidna hates her and would never invite her. The qualification for being invited to the tea party is wanting to “know” with all your mind and body. She has the qualification for taking the trial, which I believe you may have confused with going to the witch’s tea party.
That isnt the case, in volume 15 emilia tells minerva that she looks forward to meeting and having tea together with all the witches in the future, and from memory in the WN emilia drank the tea.

The requirement is to be able to attend a witches tea party. So what if the requirement is to be able to stand infront of witches without losing your sanity? Emila never looked at minerva, and echidna was said to look different from the corpse in the tomb. So what if she never showed her true face?

Thats why satella aka emilia +envy, travel back to time to give him in second chance, do things selfishly, greedily, making sure everyone stays alive. Thats what I think. Echidna took away his ability to take the trials but I personally doubt that she has the power to revoke his sage potential. Remember the author says that being a sage requires the ability to attend the tea party, not actually getting invited. I'd speculate that it has more to do with some kind of connection with the Witch's powers that allow them to bring the person into Echidna's 'dream.'
