Dang. The amounts of dedication, effort, perseverance, and sheer talent are remarkable. It’s awesome to see your daily routine and all that you do and put into your studies. Really inspiring!
This was exactly what I needed. I just got rejected from the pre college and broke my 6 month practicing streak since Wednesday in self pity, but truly just seeing you living your best life in my dream made me pick up my flute again. I'm going to work hard and see you there next year 😁
Spencer, I don't know how I found this video. But I am so glad I did. My younger brother died this summer in a tragic accident - before that though he played bassoon and wrote his own compositions. He dreamed about going to Berklee and being a professional musician. I myself went to music school for undergrad and loved seeing your schedule and your passion during a productive week. It seems like you have such a great friend group and balance in your life. I wish you all the success in the future - at Julliard pursuing a degree, but also in life! Thank you for sharing.
I NEEEED an in depth Reed making video. I always love to see how other oboists make their reeds. I would also love to see if there’s anything you’re doing that I could add to my process
some pro's put a somewhat similar effort if you start from blanks or whole ass cane. I've tried it before and its probably like half to 3/4 of this process.
@@janetslater129 yes, most clarinetists don’t really make reeds completely from scratch. some do, and clarinetists will usually modify and shape premade reeds, but it’s definitely not as intense as double reeds
As a young musician, your videos are always so fun and inspiring to watch! I love seeing your insight into life at Juilliard and these videos are so inspiring for me and remind me how much I love music. They also always make me laugh :)
Idk if you ever see my comments but I really love how your channel shows to me how amazing it'll be in college because my goal is to get a full ride scholarship at Juliard
I may not play the oboe, but you inspire me so much. I play the violin, and I certainly don't plan to play professionally, but I still want to be the best I can be. The fact that you still show up to practice at 10 PM is amazing. I would have just given up at that point, but I'm trying to be better so thanks. Love your videos btw!
spencer i’ve always wanted to ask you a question!! im an oboist too, and its my dream to go to juilliard one day (im currently a junior in hs)! i was wondering if you have made, or maybe if you could make, a video with “tips to get into juilliard” or smth. i just admire you so much and hope to follow in your footsteps!! ❤❤
Competitions look really good. You need to do more than be good at your auditions, your resume has to show that you're ready as well. Also set up a private lesson with one of the teachers of your instrument. Let them get to know you, it increases your chances by a lot.
This video is absolutely fascinating. I would love to see a video of making a reed but with narration so that some of us who know nothing about it can understand a bit more about what it takes. It looks very complicated and precise, but also very therapeutic.
I love the music artists like yourself make, and now appreciate it more knowing all the hard work and training that is involved, because most of us only see the end result at a concert.
You are truly inspiring. I love your work ethic, it motivates me as I’m sure many who are watching also feel! Thank you for spending the time to share so much with us and being so great at it too 🎥 Wishing you the best and don’t forget to make sure you’re taking care of you and your health 😊 Can’t wait until your next video! 🥳
As a kid, I dreamed of attending Juilliard! Thank you for really putting into perspective just how much goes into each day and the amount of practice/dedication you have to give in order to create a meaningful experience there. Also, thanks for allowing me to realize that it wouldn’t have been right for me 😂
You are such an inspiration to me! I am a clarinet player and watching your videos are super entertaining lol but also pushes me to work hard❤️much love to yaaaa
I love the musical arts. Your vlog made me subscribe. I hope you keep doing this. It also taught me that I need to practice before my exams. You reminded me of why, I need to practice hard and focus before my exams. Instead of “winging” it and acting like a know-it-all. ❤❤❤❤
As a sax player, I really appreciate your dedication to reed making and care. Having said that, I would quit if I had to put that much time and effort just to prepare to practice or perform.
Whenever I see violinists playing really well, I get a low-key urge to run out and buy a violin and start playing, then I think about the whole 10,000 hours and the urge goes away. It was fun watching your friends make fun of your crow. I think to be well-rounded, music students should also study a craft like pottery. Reed making should exempt most oboists from this requirement. From the little I heard here, your reeds seem to work really well throughout the range, so you're clearly doing something right. What's the backstory of your fellow oboist who also seems to be an accomplished pianist? You guys work pretty long, varied hours!!
I am so happy that i am a clarinet player cause even with 15 years of experience playing the clarinet i could not make my own reed even if my life depended on it
Ever since I saw u with the oboe, you e inspired me to play Oboe, and I'm making so much progress thanks to you. THANK YOU FOR INTRODUCING ME TO THE OBOE UR THE BESTTTTT😢😢😢
This looks so much fun, I want to go to this school (maybe) I’m currently doing the violin and I love this, also a little bit of researc I’ve done, I love that there’s also acting dancing and ofc musician, That’s all of the things I dreamed doing, this might be my dream school to go but again I’m not sure.
Im literally packing for an intensive composition/piano solo course at scgsah and seeing this just makes me so much more excited to go. I am also hoping to go to a college like juilliard. Just gotta finish my packing!!! But honestly his vids are more important lmao!
I love these videos! You are so amazing, it is my dream to go to Julliard oneday and you inspire me so much. Could you please do some kind of Q&A about Julliard, a tour and more of these kinds of videos! Thankyou :))

@@shoko_shokoGood luck!!!!
As a clarinetist that sits next to the beginner oboe it looks a bit challenging so good luck 👍👍

What is a reed & also an obist
@@Nobody.thatyouknow reed is the wood at the top that causes vibrations for sound and an oboist is someone who plays the oboe
as a clarinetist, i can’t IMAGINE putting this much effort into my reeds.
some pro's put a somewhat similar effort if you start from blanks or whole ass cane. I've tried it before and its probably like half to 3/4 of this process.
Frrr lol
Yeah fr, i just kinda go out, get a box of reeds my thickness, and just go through the box to find the best ones to use.
I was actually just wondering if double reed instrumentalists are the ones most likely to make their own reeds.
@@janetslater129 yes, most clarinetists don’t really make reeds completely from scratch. some do, and clarinetists will usually modify and shape premade reeds, but it’s definitely not as intense as double reeds
woah, being in classical music, music student, is whole nother life, ITSUCH A COOL PERSPECTIVE
i never knew you had to prepare reeds like that, it reminds me of ballerinas customising their pointe shoes if that makes sense
totally!
Spencer is so preppy and u cant say otherwise
HAHHAHA

Oboe reed making asmr is HEAVEN!✨✨✨
yayyyy! i'm glad you like it!
It is so interesting for me. I am a total newbie for oboe stuff. I play piano. Is it normal that Spencer makes his reed himself? ♥
@@KuroKisakiCoversyeah! most oboists make reeds themselves, because buying them is very expensive:)
I love the social circle you have. They are so supportive and fun! Keep it up, Spencer!
I had NO IDEA how many tools and items wend into making reeds (choralist here). That was amazing to watch.
i love the vlogs sm bc these videos are actually my therapy

This earned you a sub. I absolutely loved this! Brings me back to my conservatory days

reed making is so satisfying i wish i could see my friend making some but she just buys them

I was at lincoln center last year for my middle school performance trip and its beautiful 😀

I noticed you're left handed - I am too. I wondered if you feel that it helps or hinders you with oboe.
