- 17,000 feet there and back with my PH3 Advanced over the Del Valle reservoir in Livermore, California. When i turned around it showed 5.2km (3.2 miles) distance away from me with FULL signal on the controller. I could have gone further, but wanted to play it safe on the battery to make sure I still come back..:-)
when I came back, I still had 33% on the battery left....
Beautiful footage. Crystal clear.
Awesome range. Ive had the p3A for a couple of years now and I love it. One day I'll get the mavic but can't afford it yet. Keep it up bro
thanks! yeah, I love my P3A too. Have had it for 2.5 years, flew about 1000 miles with it in total and it still flies like new...I am not sure the Mavic would make it that long and that far. But I do like the Mavic too, as it's soooo compact...maybe one day, when my P3A dies, I will go for the Mavic Pro..:-)
Meraviglioso...... Non finisce più...
Happy Flying!
Awesome scenery!
thanks...it was one of the 1st flights after I bought the quadcopter and i just wanted to test its range when it was all brand new..:-)
I used to get those range until I update the latest firmware, now it's 1580 meters short of the previous. Several flight test from my backyard that backs into farmland.
+Sam Gar
really? I hope they didnt limit the range with the latest firmware upgrade...I better go test it soon again..:-). I havent pushed it to distance like in this video since back from August....thanks for bringing it up
Amazing video and range! I love how smooth you shot it due to 1080p 60fps and mad skills with the transmitter and camera control! Great work and thanks for sharing. Also how much battery did you have upon returning?
+Gregory Curtis
thanks. Yes,the range on this P3 is amazing.
I still had 33% left on my battery (was wind-free day)..so I could have gone further, if I really wanted to push it...:-)
Right on man...Awesome!
awesome.....wonderful, do you use an antenna booster? or standard antena or another additional , you're a great drones pilot
+Lukas Sutrisno
Thank you....I dont use any antenna booster....it's all stock......the range on this is beyond what I thought it would be..it's great! :-)
+Ralph der Kapitaen Great video, it works only because there is no radio interference or obstacle, there is a clear line of sight and bridged connection between your FPV and the drone. This is how you achieve the long range.
I would agree he had an elevated flight are and a perfect for no interference
Wow that's amazing
Hi. Did you bought Phantom in USA or Europe? What country is it on the video? Great range! Akis.
Very cool.Iwonder if being in that valley helps concentrate and reflect the radio waves.
+captain waggy
Yes, I think flying in the mountains does seem to achieve a better range....I was flying over ocean water and I was unable to reach out that far....Not sure why..maybe the signal bounces off the land when flying in the mountains and it makes the signal stronger at huge distances.
but even over water, the distances are very decent....I think 3km out over water (only) is no problem for this quadcopter.
Nice smooth video. I am thinking about getting into this space in my area for home inspection and real estate photography. Was looking at the latest PH3 Advanced. Does this model have recovery ping if it goes down out of LOS? Kind of like find my iPhone?
As far as I know, it doesn't. You would just have to keep track of where it fell and then get to it asap. But mine is coming in the mail any day now, so if I find out differently, I'll let you know!
NO it does not youi would need the coordinates from your ap and you phones gps. Better yet there is a 100 dollar or so device to put on you drone that will ping faster as you get closer to your drone in a crash or a failure to come to home
Great video! unbelievable range !!! which P3 do you have? It is the Phantom 3 Pro? Where did your test take place? Did you fly 10.5km away from you (and radio control) or 10.5km was the total distance travelled, 5,25km going out and 5,25 coming back? I was really impressed.
+Ricardo Rosman
hi there...I have the advanced version...but I think Professional and Advanced have the same range.
it was 5.2km there and 5.2km back....I could have flown further (the signal was still full), but didnt want to push it as I didnt know how much the battery might take...so i turned around to play to safe...When i came back, I still had 33% on the battery..so I could have pushed it little bit more I guess..:-))
Ralph der Kapitaen
Great! Really awesome! I know that both adv/pro have the same streaming video, radio transmitter and satellite technology, but even so its good to know which one you were using. Could you tell where did you do this test, which location in google maps? Thank you for sharing.
I was wondering how far could you go in this same place if you use the windsurfer adapter on you radio controller. It is simple homemade parabolic booster that you build and attach to the antennas that increases a lot the drones regular range.
+Ralph der Kapitaen the next gen the phantom 4 will be released this march with a better battery so then I think you can fly much more
+Ricardo Rosman
i tested it in northern California...in the Livermore area (it's in above description).
Not sure, if some booster would help or not...but the range is good enough for me...because even if i could fly further, the battery will limit me anyway...20 min flight time fits perfectly with this range, if you push it all the way ..so it all fits in place
How can do that? awesome
Great !
thanks..It was fun to test the range....I felt slightly an uneasy feeling during the flight, especially when the distance got bigger and bigger...., but it all ended up just fine at the end..:-)
hahahaha you are right, I have felt the same feeling of discomfort and anxiety when you think that the drone will not come back anymore.
hahahaha
. . .hug
yeah..especially, if the wind starts blowing and it slows down the drone on the way back..:-)..as I was flying back I was already thinking about plan B, if I have to make an emergency landing somewhere in the hills and then I would have to go get it on foot...but it went all smoothly and when I came back, i still had around 25% left on the battery..but I did feel slightly relieved when the drone made it all the way back..:-)
how far did you go ,, i have an standard but thinking of buying profesional or the new phantom 4
+droneactivities
i went over 3 miles out and then back.
I could have gone little bit further, but was getting nervous at that point if the battery makes it back.....at that distance, you never know...all it takes more sudden wind and your drone won't make it back...lol...luckily, this was early morning...so without any wind.
With latest firmware/dji app they seem to have boosted stock range to 7km, but video-link is still only 3km at low res, how do you see where you're flying? Just got lucky? I'm scared to lose video signal.
+VarietyGamer
I still saw everything on my Iphone when I was 5.2km out...i didnt lose the video link at that point yet. i had full signal on everything.
if you lose video, you can always push the return-home button..:-)
Ralph der Kapitaen
I guess you were up on hill without interference. I live in suburbs at sea level so different story. A pic I took yesterday: i.imgur.com/Ro3TihP.jpg
+VarietyGamer
very nice pic!...where was it taken?
Did you get this range fresh out of the box or did you add modifications?
+Chris S
no modifications. all was stock equipment and out of box.
i was amazed by still seeing full signal at that distance.
arent u close by an airport in livermore?
im going to Los vasqueros and use my phantom 3p to cast my fishing line lol
what mods have for this range? thanks
just regular flight...turn on the drone and fly...no special modifications.
nice will try bigger antennas maby better range
fpvlr.com/store/product/rhcp-12-turn-5-8-helical-long-range-antenna/
you dont need any bigger antennas...with the stock equipment, you will be able to fly far away just to make it back as well, as you have a battery limit to 20 minutes
I wouldn't consider this long range, but "normal" range. As it's an unmodified Phantom doing what it's advertised to do. But cool location no doubt.
I would agree, 5km each way is nothing spectacular
Yea, i mean don't get me wrong, it is a "long range" the technology is amazing. But today we are doing 10, 15, 20km one way and 5km is now what a stock unmodified DJI Phantom 3 can do in a good RF clean area.
