- Here's another little medley. Again, thanks to my friend, Loc (tienloc47), for shooting the video.
Well, it's a little bit of "Lover Come Back to Me", a little bit of "Avalon" and some other bits along with plenty of tricks and licks thrown in to this pot of spicy 'Chicken Pickin' Soup'. Enjoy. :)
I have heard this man in person at a local church.
He is a master of the instrument and is just getting better and better. A piano in his had. Great Guitarist.
live doyle is absolutely amazing. i met him and bought a T5 at one of his guitar shows and he signed it and played it a bit for me too. when you meet him he is the most happy and laid back guy ever. made such an impression on me. i totally recommend seeing him live he is insanely good at the guitar.
Saw this guy play for free at a local church from about 10 feet away. Amazing truly is an understatement.
I totally agree Cowfister. The T5 is amazing. I own the Koa top version and it is completely awesome. I am not a fan of the dual humbucker model Doyle is using but it really depends on what you do. I do alot of acoustic so that is why I like the single humbucker better. I must warn anyone going to test drive a
T5, you wont want to leave it at the store.
My God that was awesome.
He's playing Avalon.
This is so great!!!
You can just feel the emotion reverberating off from this music. Unbelievable...best finger-style player in the world. Tommy comes in 2nd. Long live doyle
great stuff, Thanks for uploading, keep em coming
Finally somebody gets it.
Hi Junky,
Im well aware of the original, I play jazz myself. I was just referring to DDs rendition of the tune (with a few other oldies mixed in). The guy is a freak! Ive read some previous comments, and some folks dont have a clue. Nobody - I mean NOBODY can pick like that. No one even comes close (even Chet himself). I know he didnt write as much as some other players, put as far as pickin; no one is even in the same ballpark; hell - not even the same sport, and I've heard them all.
@scharf1 "lover come back to me" is actually an old jazz tune from the twenties. It wasn't written for guitar so don't feel bad, doyle is just nuts.
That's gotta be the sickest freakin' guitar piece I've ever heard in my life man! WTF! I've been playing for forty years (and I'm pretty damn good), but I feel like throwing my guitar off the George Washington Bridge after hearing that. Holy cripes!
No worries bro. Ya, they call them "stacked" humbuckers. Smart dudes over at Taylor.
awesome!
@Jer1400 ; Great point !!! I'm just old enough to remember life before the internet & RUclips. I'd like to have temporary access to the way back machine--for you youngsters a reference to Mr Peabody from the Rocky & Bullwinkle Show, I'd say the mid-eighty's is far enough back. If you wanted to hear a Doyle Dokes or better yet see him play, you could just wait until he comes to your town-whenever that might be, or buy his record. The moral of the story---just cool it whippersnappers !!
Tommy Emmanuel is my hero. I have all of his dvd's and books. Ive been listening to him since I was 8. Saying that either one of these guys is "better" is just ridiculous. The type of picking that they do transcends any label of so called "goodness" that you could pin on either man. They are the BEST of the best of the best. Its that simple. I grew up listening to TE. He is deffinately my favorite artist by a long shot. However, he isnt any better or worse than DD.
@lumberjackphil ; Great point. Let me add the fact this may NOT have anything to do with Doyle's settings, and may have everything to do with circumstances it was recorded under. Myself, I feel fortunate that RUclips has introduced me to literally hundreds of pickers, and players I would have never known about without RUclipss forum. Last...Anyone who feels the tone, tune, or taping is beneath them----TUNE OUT !! ----
what a monster!
Actually, it's a medley. See the comments for the video for details.
The Taylor T5 sounds beautiful... It's the cheap recording + youtube compression.
wow... i wish i had more time to put into learning fingerstyle better... awesome stuff
That's funny, I've played some of DD's recording for a guy I know and he can't accept that it's one guy picking the tune. We've lost touch buy I hope he catches these posts if not Doyle live.
Humbucker? I believe those are singles. But yeah, agreed on the other points.
Hmmm, lets see, sounds like dennismp is an expert. Mayby he should give Taylor a call and get them straightened out? I'm sure if he would take his $300.00 "Tak" down there they would want to take some measurements, take some pictures, and see if they can figure out what there doing wrong? I will be waiting for the first "TakaTaylor" to roll off the bench!! I here ebay has a nice 1966 "Airline" acoustic from Motgomery Ward with a "buy it now" for $14.88. Might want to jump on that mr. expert.
I agree, dosen't sound a good as Chet but again it's a recording from some Joe Blow in the audience so you can't expect much.
obviously, dennis, you never played the t5. its amazing.
OMFGGG
Doyle is freaking awesome !!! Taylors on other hand and entirely over-rated guitars. i have two and they're both broken (one has had to go back to the factory 4x)...God Bless Doyle...!!!
He´s like Danny gatton`s brother!Very similar!
Oh damn, sorry man. I totally forgot that those ARE humbuckers, albeit constructed in an unorthodox manner. I guess that's the Taylor way.
You need more exposure to his catalog. Soulful?
While my guitar gently weeps
Nothing's too good for a Friend
White Rose for Heidi
the list goes on and on..
His voicing on the instrument in perfection.
Definitely catch him live at your first opportunity.
He is a real picker...tho if he had a fault he doesn't play soulful stuf like Tommy can
What song is he playing.
what's up with the sound?
1:00!!!!!!!!!
You need to ask Doyle because he has said the opposite.
doyle is one of the best pickers out there... he just needs to rid himself of that T5... i just traded mine in for a used Olsen. I love Taylor guitars, but that T5 is just clunky and annoying.
One of the most ridiculous things you could ever do is to judge a guitar's tone of any brand, based on the sound you hear from a video recording from who knows where using who knows what equipment, streamed off of a compressed, lowquality video on youtube. I've heard Taylor guitars live, and own one myself. They are awesome. As are many other brands. With all the dumb comments, I had to say that so someone isn't duped by stupidity.
doyle plays great but he has the treble set to high.
LMAO
Boy, that would have sounded really good with a good guitar and a good microphone.
Taylor cracks me up.
Buy a Taylor with the "incredible" Expression System for 2 to 10 grand. Oh, but if you want it to sound good, buy the Taylor/Neve-who-ever-the-hell-he-is T4 pre-amp for another 800 bucks. Then, waste a couple months trying to get a DECENT live sound, then go back to a 300 dollar Tak and say hello to ebay.
Sheesh.
Repeat after me: Taylors sound great unplugged.
.....VERY talented guitarist....but it's coming from his head, not his heart....
not to start a flame war but tommy emmanuel is better. They are close though.
Oops, I didn't mean to give a thumbs down.
I think Tommy Emmanuel is better. Steve Vai and Chet Atkins said he was the best. Doyle is amazing but not quite at TE's level.
you are no longer allowed to speak
