To discover this in 2024, how grand life can be and the far-reaching benefits of RUclips. Everything is perfect, two magnificent singers with a song that's a contender for the greatest of all time, and fantastic live accompaniment. Today's music has nothing by comparison, nor any artists comparable to the great Hoyt Axton and Linda Rondstadt
AMEN💔Had pleasure to meet the both Many years ago Hoyt very kind to listen to new talent Linda would let anyone jam with her. 70 yrs. As Bob S, would say "70 yrs, where'd they go?" 💙🤠🎸🎶
I’m 65 years old now… But I had the pleasure of going to Hoyt Axton’s house when I was 20… Over at dollar point in Lake Tahoe. He was mixing the rusty old halo album… And it was my privilege to hear it before it was released. I got to go there because the fella I was caretaking at the time had business with Hoyt. It was my job to carry my employer Kenny on my back all the way up those stairs to Hoyts House. Was a big old St. Bernard name, fearless sitting on the floor. Of course, I was shy and kept my mouth shut. But Hoyt gave me a Budweiser, I don’t think he knew I was not 21 years old yet.… Fantastic memory!!!! But when I look at this video… I realize why I had such a crush on Linda. My God she was perfect!!! Her beauty… And her voice.…
There are other singers whose songs I liked better, and who I thought were more soulful in their interpretation. Bonnie Raitt and Eva Cassidy come to mind. No pop singer I can think of had better pipes, pitch and control than Linda. Well maybe Aretha and a few black singers were in that class. A true musicologist could certainly challenge my claim. :)
I was too young to appreciate Linda when she was in her prime. But thank God these videos are here to remind me how awesome she is. No other voice, male or female, is better than hers.
Great singing, both. A simple melody but Ronstadt brings it to another level of sophistication. Her part, the way she voices it, must have been tricky to nail. But then again we’re talking Linda Ronstadt. She could sing country and she could sing operetta and both beautifully and with complete self-assurance.
2 DAYS AGO IT WAS LINDA'S 72ND BIRTHDAY. I AM 71 AND I GREW UP WITH HER AND HOYT IN CALIFORNIA. ONCE OR TWICE I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO CATCH HOYT'S SHOWS AT THE GOLDEN BEAR BY KNOTT'S BERRY FARM AND A PLACE IN HUNTINGTON BEACH WHERE LINDA JOINED HIM AND SANG THIS SONG. I WILL NEVER FORGET THESE TWO. WOULD SOMEONE DO AN AUTOBIOGRAPHY SHOW ON HOYT AXTON. HE WAS ONE OF A KIND, AND I WAS GLAD I GOT TO SEE HIM.
Hoyt was married to my next door neighbors daughter. He came in to town and I had the honor of sitting down to dinner and talking to him. He was a great guy and had some really cool stories. His touring bus was painted sky blue with clouds all over it. He would park it in the street in front of their house. It was easy to tell when he was in town....LOL
I was lucky enough to see Hoyt in Ashland, Oregon; abt 1977 at Southern Oregon College ... and before the concert began, he was watching the audience from his vantage point on a balcony overlooking the large, rowdy audience, as he sipped on a cup of coffee...finally the audience spied him and went to an uproar...he toasted the audience with his cofee and a few minutes later was charming us all on the concert floor with his showmanship, stories and amazing voice...we all miss you Hoyt.
Linda Ronstadt was one of the best and most versatile singers of he generation. She could sing Country, Rock, Pop, Folk and even Light Opera with both control and power.
I'm so glad I had the good fortune of growing up through the seventies and early eighties. I got to experience the best in music, movies, and I'd say pop culture in general. This was beautiful......and so was Linda Ronstadt.
I will never forget an evening in 1980 -81with Hoyt performing in a small barn in Santa Cruz with about 50 of us. Hoyt brought the house down with a voice that went straight to your heart . This duet is one of the best with two powerful voices and well loved singers, never to be forgotten.
@@deadandburied7626I think he means that she just blasts it out with such power that for the rest of us it would be belting. In fact, when I saw his post I thought I'd posted it because I've used "belting" to describe her power.
I was lucky enough in my younger days to see both Hoyt Axton and Linda Ronstadt at the Troubadour in L.A. They were the only two singers that had such powerful voices that they really didn't need to use microphones. Such talent!
Way cool Jaynee. I was lucky enough to see him at the Williams Lake stampede. Outdoor concert in the grandstand, I think early 70s . I was pretty young but I still remember his powerful voice
I'd like to think in Heaven we'll be able to pick times and places in history that we can just "drop in." The Troubadour in the early 70's would be in my Top 5. What a wonderful way to spend eternity!
I agree. I saw Hoyt at county fair in about '84-'85 & afterwards my ma ,my dad & a couple others spoke with him about some songs my uncle had written. I suppose he might hear those kind of things a lot,but you wouldn't known it by his response. Nothing but kindness & a gentle christian soul. And a big bear of a man for certain, with no menace at all in him for his size. So we were close in front on stage & right beside him after, big man. And he had a ton of great things to say about us here in the pacific northwest, and he just loved the beauty of the forest and the wildlife, the wild streams & salmon runs etc. that was all very kind of him & I'll always remember that show,it would have actually been the very first live musical performance I'd ever attended. The ladies on stage kept pointing at my sister cuz she was singing everything word for word,it made her feel so good & she just laughed. A beautiful memory, thank you Hoyt & friends.
Saw Hoyt in 1980 at the Palamino Club. When he left the stage I grabbed his hand and he squeezed my hand with that big old bear paw of his. I miss him so much, so talented.
I think that her voice was a great gift from the Creator. No one as yet can climb that high. Hoyt Axton has a wonderful way of putting out words that he turns into beautiful songs .Thank you both for the music I love.
10 years after this I was on the road with Hoyt singing backups and this song. Always felt so much pressure on this song as each time he performed it, he seemed to relive his unrequited love for her...so I knew my parts had to be perfect. And, yes I heard the inspiration for "She collects hearts".straight from the horses mouth. I wrote a lot of songs from the top deck of the "honeysuckle rose" during those first four years of my singing career
+Teri Garrison Hi Teri. I loved Hoyt. I remember seeing him at the Palomino club several times and in Seal beach. When I saw him at the Palamino Club there was a girl from my High School singing with him, Her name was Jana Eberly [maiden name] I always wondered what happened to her. What songs did you write? Cathy
+Teri Garrison She that effect on people. I saw her at a Love In when she was with the Stone Ponies. She was just a kid in shorts and a pony tail- a couple of years older than me. However, she lit a torch in me that has lasted lo these many years.
A wonderful video that brings back many memories. Hoyt was a great and without a doubt underrated by the music industry. The public should have had more exposure to him I agree, he left us too soon!
This gorgeous voice of Linda Ronstadt was given to her - a beautiful gift she was born with and now this gift has been taken. I'm just glad she did have this beautiful voice for many, many years and hope she can find another avenue to continue in her love for music.
One of those magical tunes from two magical voices with the most addicting harmony! Linda's voice seemed to dominate here, but they both complemented each other so well.
First Axton forgets the name of the song, then Ronstadt forgets the words about half way through! If this performance were a minted coin or postage stamp, it would be worth a fortune. Great song. Really takes me back!

Hoyt very kind to listen to new talent

Absolutely, one of my favourite songs of all time.
chills and tears -- how lucky we are to have this memory
Are you kidding me!!! This is awesome! The most UNDERAPPRECIATED singer/songwriter with one of the most talented female vocalists EVER!
I thought you
Meant Hoyt. Hoyt is one of the most underrated musicians, writers of all time as well💕

He was also a pretty good actor.

Wow, Linda just took over the chorus. Love that song.

You carried Kenny up the stairs to Hoyt's?
Their two Voices are absolutely incredible together! Hoyts deep bass/Baritone and Linda’s are perfect for duets like this
I just wish she could still sing!!!😢😢😢
@@moonbeamchaosI do, too, for her sake more than ours...she gave us so much for so long.
Man I love it when Linda sings like this.
I don't think there has ever been a better female singer than Linda Ronstadt. In one word she is just "fabulous".
There are other singers whose songs I liked better, and who I thought were more soulful in their interpretation. Bonnie Raitt and Eva Cassidy come to mind. Yes Don I Agree
Agreed
Yes it is true...she so uniquely superb....
Judy Collins?
I love this… what a find!

He was definitely underrated. Beautiful voice and wrote so many good songs.

my god she has the voice of a POWERFUL angel. i listen to this video whenever i am down ... and it brings me back to the world.

Linda Ronstadt is the greatest singer that ever lived
Barbra Streisand & Elvis Presley would like a word…but Linda’s DEFINITELY part of that conversation.

Isn't living in the past wonderful when it comes to such beautiful music????
Linda Gives Me goosebumps everytime when they hit the chorus.....just a powerful performance from both of them......RIP Hoyt
I love it! Hoyt Axton; only the Greatest Singer/Songwriter nobody ever heard of. I've loved his music for 30 years... RIP Hoyt, we miss ya....
Linda Ronstadt is one of the best singers ever to grace this planet and if there was a God she would still be singing and giving pleasure to all.
Linda is the only singer, IMHO, who sounds BETTER live, no matter what she sings, or who she shares her beautiful voice with! Viva Linda!!
The very reason for music video, right there man, real song, real players, authentic.
Hoyt wrote some of the best songs and had his own style of singing. Then to add Linda to the mix was awesome. There was a great mix in their voices.
Her voice, just perfect!
Wow, this is splendid -- had never heard it before. They sound marvelous together.
One of the most beautiful songs of all time. Why wasn't it a hit?
It was a minor hit, 57th on the country chart in 1975.
It was a hit with us! Recorded it on cassette tape to listen to while traveling. Lion in Winter always gives me goose bumps.
Man I loved listening to Hoyt. He will always be at the top of my list.
Linda Ronstadt was one of the best and most versatile singers of he generation. She could sing Country, Rock, Pop, Folk and even Light Opera with both control and power.
The Greatest of Girl singers. No matter what she sang or who surrounded her she lifted that warm powerful voice in harmony. Very special.
You are right, best set of pipes of any female singer since the invention of recording.
Still gives me goosebumps.
Harvey Jones yup😀
Say what you want but I will say this Hoyt was "ONE HELL OF A SONG WRITER."
Notice how Hoyt couldn't wait to kiss Linda at the end......can't blame him....
I'm so glad I had the good fortune of growing up through the seventies and early eighties. I got to experience the best in music, movies, and I'd say pop culture in general. This was beautiful......and so was Linda Ronstadt.

I love Linda. (Full stop).
Hoyt was a master doing duets with lady singers too RIP Hoyt, gone but never forgotten.
Amen and Amen (!!!!)
Whoa! What a great sound. Man, I miss Hoy Axton, and Ms. Ronstadt never sounded better.
+jpcfit Just the best ever. I miss Hoyt too....taken from us far too soon.
She’s just amazing. She just sits there so casual and belts out the song so easily.

I go back to this video every once in awhile and it always makes me smile. Miss Hoyt and wish Linda the best. She gave us all so much.

Their voices complement each other very well indeed.
Linda is the best singer in the world 😎
What a wonderful Duet, genuine & so, so sweet! Your voice will be heard forever Linda! 🥴
I would die for a voice like Hoy Axton. He had pure talent.
What a gorgeous sound Linda had. She's was so diverse and yet it just comes down to that warmth and cry in her voice.
Man she could sing.
I asked a guy to enhance this because she is so good. First Cut is the deepest too.
A wonderful video that brings back many memories. Hoyt was a great and without a doubt underrated by the music industry. The public should have had more exposure to him I agree, he left us too soon!
i need to hear linda singing when will i be loved on hoyt axton show thats when i fell in love with linda voice and stayed faithful for 33 years

Just listening to how they harmonize together indicates they had a connection. Great song!
This gorgeous voice of Linda Ronstadt was given to her - a beautiful gift she was born with and now this gift has been taken. I'm just glad she did have this beautiful voice for many, many years and hope she can find another avenue to continue in her love for music.
That wonderful baritone along with that gorgeous, soaring soprano.
I miss Hoyt Axton...
Linda was hot back then and what a nice harmony.Hoyt sounded good with his deep tone.I like that song.
2023!!! My dad loves this song and now so do I. When the start singing the chorus…so powerfully effortless.
I had every cassette that Hoyt ever made. This duet is one of my favorites
What an incredible mix of voices. Absolutely amazing. I could listen to this all day long.
I was lucky to see Linda in concert twice. Her performances were perfection, and that was the standard she set for herself. And she always met it.
she sings with anyone and makes them sound better... that's her gift... love you Linda
Linda...keeping us warm indeed.
Yes this is a great song. They sing it very well together.
Hoyt and Linda RULE!!!!!!!
Man...id like to have been 1 foot away from Linda Ronstadt...singin into those beautiful big brown eyes...what a killer song...thanks!

Two greats, best song writer, and a best singer! Peace and love!
Hoyt was a wonderful song writer...great post
Amoooo ver este vídeo ! Um dos melhores de Hoyt e linda .❤Adooooro!
Their voices sound so great together.
A couple of vocal powerhouses in their prime... great harmonies...
They don’t sing songs like this today. So few great vocals now with all the folks listening to cRAP and hip hop.
Just great. Simply great. Will never get tired of this, never.
Two perfect voices
Two of my favorite singers. And the gorgeous Linda, perhaps the most beautiful woman...ever.Makes me proud to be an Arizona native

SWEET RESPECTS TOO HOYT . . . . and that gal!
I have loved EVERYTHING this Golden Voice graced! Thank you Linda😊
This is very near the top of my all time favorite duets, and right now, I can't think of what the others might be.
Porter and Dolly. Kenny and Dolly.
Just about perfect! Great voices that go together, a beautiful surprise.
This is sooooo beautifull...Brings tears to mah eyes.
When I first heard this on the album... I knew he wrote it for her.
First Axton forgets the name of the song, then Ronstadt forgets the words about half way through! If this performance were a minted coin or postage stamp, it would be worth a fortune. Great song. Really takes me back!
The studio track never fails to just blow me away.
Two amazing voices!!
what's amazing to me is how he's got such a powerful voice, I'd think it would overpower another singer, but she makes a great match.
She had the power, and range, to do Pirates of Penance on Broadway.
Hoyt was a great talent in several ways. I first saw him at The Troubador in 1964.
One of my favorite songs and 2 great voices. Finally found this on an overseas multi cd package. Some great songs on it.
if only we could go back to those times...if only...
Our Souls are still there.
I always loved Hoyt's baritone voice.
