We didn't like facing off against each other either, though facing the Persians is my favorite part of this expansion. I think it would be easy to implement that players start with zero four leafs and, during the supply round, whoever had the most strength wins a population and two four leafs from the supply (then half strength as usual). The other player loses nothing. Thematically, their show of strength would increase the vitality, security, and trust of their people in the face of future Persian invasions.
agreed. I have the expansion with the extra starting cities, and it's perfect. Heroes would be nice but cutt-throat is not an essential part of the character of peloponnes.
Too bad about the cutthroat ending. I was with it until then. No way my daughter and I would play this with that particular element thrown in, which is a shame because we really like the base game.
