Man it's been a while, I watched your videos and I'm building my own Laser cutter inspired by a lot of other builds I found but your DIY Laser Cutter serie is the best, thank you! please keep making more videos :D
Glad to see you back, I have all my parts except a 9mm belt I’ve been waiting on for 2 months and looking forward to getting into my Y-400 build! Thanks for the video. I’d love to see a “designing for laser cutting/engraving” series in the future.
oh that's frustrating! Shipping times are still all over the show, hopefully you can get started on the other parts first. I'm hoping to cover some more design stuff soon.
Welcome back, Rob! Glad to see you're doing okay. If you're leasing out shop space, I'll assume that means that you've got more paying work than your little garage could handle? If you're looking for quick, easy items that sell like crazy. . . laser engraved leather keychains. I've been selling the crap out of them lately, and they cost next to nothing in materials. Looking forward to more videos!
Welcome Back! Have you been using your laser cutter much during the past year? How is it holding up and have you made any changes or upgrades? If you started again would you use the same design and build?
Thanks! it's had a pretty good workout over the past year, and while I've been able to get the results that I wanted, I actually do have a few upgrades in mind to see what kind of difference they make. Just waiting for the parts to arrive
Welcome back, welcome back, welcome back! Pete from Nelson here - you inspired me and I went and bought a laser during lockdown :) Loving your ideas. I was playing with making a leather lighter pouch just last week! Good work on the vids; just hit the bell so I don't miss any!
Good to hear from you! I bought most of the basic hardware for my own laser cutter (based on your plans), but COVID really locked things off when I was waiting on everything to arrive from overseas. The angled bracket connectors (which you filed down) in particular took somewhere around four months to get here! The project is on hold for a bit but I'm definitely glad I held off on buying the pricier parts, like the laser tube.
Yeah covid really threw all those shipping times out the window, but better late than never. good luck with your build when the rest of the pieces arrive!
Dude it's really good to hear from you! Projects look awesome will suss them out when I feel creative next and you don't have to apologise. 2020 succccked just good to hear from ga
Hi, Rob, I have been watching your videos mainly because of co2 laser build series, but after that I also watched remaining ones. Great vids. Few days remembered your channel, because I thought it would be nice to watch again build series, because it's time to build my own laser machine. (Bought plans a year ago :D) Today watched few more videos that I liked, and thought when would you upload new vids, and here you are, quite strange coincidence :D Love your videos, keep it up! Waiting for more! Thanks ;)
Can i ask where you get your 3mm Bamboo Ply from in NZ? I have been using 3mm Craft ply from Mitre 10 but the middle layer is very inconsistent, often having large gaps.
Hi, I have just purchased the box you has assemble in the video, but I got problem with setting up the size, I got the cut file already, but dont know how to customize my own size, it just didnt work, if I have set up as the same height and width, can you share your setup for the box at 2:23, Much Appreciated!
Hello I have a 150w Co2 laser cutter and I use RD works as well. I'd like to ask if you ever tried tile engraving using RD works if so what settings and power did you use
Glad to see a new video from you, your channel helped a lot starting out in co2 lasers What do you think of spraying the workpiece with small amounts of water to achieve nearly the same results as using masking tape? I found that on large orders and especially with a lot of small pieces time spent removing the tape and money spent on it increases greatly It has a limit as wood for example bends when drying after this process, but small pieces tend to resist this
What is the exact purpose of the masking tape / water? As in, why does it need to be protected? I am new to laser cutting so apologies if this is an obvious answer.
Hi Rob really good to see you back. I didnt have a laser when I first saw your channel. I purchased your coasters and Nespresso files and made the a while ago, and love them. I( dont suppose you have an assembly instruction sheet for that beautiful treasure chest do you? kind regards Terry
if beginner, remember you shouldn't coat wood in any finish before cutting. If your ventilation is good enough it's not so dangerous, but don't do it every time as it produces CO and formaldehyde. Ideally, cut wood that is untreated and unfinished when working with CO2 lasercutter.
Hi. Hope all's well. So here's a question: you mentioned you scale things to get them cut. Is there a particular reason you opt for this approach vs. using offset? I'm guessing it's to do with efficiency, but was really unsure about how that'd affect finger joints and pocket holes in the piece.
Great question. So in the case of the treasure chest, I'd designed that with the correct offsets for 3.1mm thick material, however the bamboo ply I ended up using was closer 3.3mm thick. So it's easier just to bump up the scale than redo all the slots. That would of course increase the offsets but it seems to workout fine if you're only scaling it a small amount, as the difference is usually less than the variation in material thickness anyways.
That little block you use to set the focus height, is it mentioned in one of the build videos? If not, could you tell us about that or share a link to a place that does? Probably super simple but total noob here.
@@FurtherFabrication oh thanks must have missed that when I watched the build series. Starting to pull together the parts for a Y1200, hoping to build it in the next couple months.
Great video and thank you for share with us. Can you suggest some small size (A3 or A2 size) laser cut machine for beginners? I live in a small appartment and the space is a real challenge. Thank in advance!
Thanks, you're welcome! I don't have any brands that I would recommend but If you're in an apartment you'd probably want to get one with an air filter (or at least purchase one separately).
It depends heavily on the Material I build a Y1200/80W myselfe and I was able to cut 15mm Acrylic with a different lense But in terms of Wood, it gets burned really quick, I made a MDF 'X-Mas Tree' in 9mm and I did 3 Cuts to prevent burning If I get a new Material I use one of the 'Lasercut Sample' Parts of Thingiverse
Pine plywood up to maybe 10mm, PMMA up to 15mm, MDF up to 18. Paper. Cardboard. Fabric. Rubber (make stamps). Vinyl stickers (bumper stickers). Glass (etching only). There are some specific things to avoid too (eg PVC). Is there a specific material you're interested in?
Love your vids man I bought the files to build the laser and can't wait to follow your guide, I do have a question do you have a way to attach a rotary to this machine? My goal is to be able to do tumblers for local youth sports, anyway killer content can't wait to see what's next
Cheers man. Shouldn't be too difficult, I know of a number of people who are using rotary attachments on it. but it's not something I've had a play with myself yet.
Love (especially) the low-poly kiwi 😍 Just curious: how did you get the connecting flaps for every single polygon? Manually or automatically by software? And, in case, which software? As well as kiwis there in NZ, local fauna here in Rome is mainly cats...I’d love to do something similar with mine 😉🐱
This kiwi bird, does anyone know what software to use to break down a 3D image into these flat piece ? Not really sure how to ask my question lol it looks like a origami bird. I’ve seen this done with sheet metal with different objects….. can anyone help???

Hi... Thanks for coming back. Miss your videos. Keep this dream alive...
The bamboo is really cool. Also working on building my own co2 laser like many others here.
