My mom told me she saw this sign off film in 1976. She said that at 11pm was Dark Shadows , then Love, American Style, and then i believed the station signed off after that.
No more sign-offs or prayers on TV... What has happened to this country? That national anthem ending is so great, haven't seen it since 1987... Remembered, the leaf, and seagulls, along with the seal with music credits, before it showed them. I miss the 80's.
Definitely don’t remember any Islamic prayers at sign off but I was a kid so didn’t even know what a Muslim was then, I thought the world was catholic back then!
(PART 2) ...WLVI is located at 75 Morrissey Boulevard in Boston, with our transmitter in Needham. Our microwave transmission link is KMN-79. (PART 3) ...WLVI is owned and operated by Field Communications, A Field Enterprises Company. Other Field Communications stations serve Chicago, Detroit, Philadelphia and San Francisco. Until tomorrow morning, when we return to the air, WLVI wishes you a pleasant good night and good morning. And now, our national anthem." Possibly an audio may tell the tale?
I noticed only one thing in the call letters for the station. The last three letters ('LVI') make up the number 56 in Roman numerals (other stations' last three call letters also make up the Roman numerals for that station's channel number [KIII in Corpus Christi, TX {3}; and WXIX in Cincinnati, OH {19}, just to name a few]).
WGBH Boston, named for the original location of the transmitter on Great Blue Hill. WCVB Boston, in those days, was Channel Five Boston. WILL belongs to the University of Illinois. Love those plays on the names.
(PART 1) I'd like to know if I'm correct or not on what the sign-off script would've been in the last year or so of Field ownership: "This concludes our program service today. We welcome your comments with regard to our programming. Address your correspondence to Gerald R. Walsh, President and General Manager, WLVI-TV, Post Office Box 56, Boston, Massachusetts 02101. ...

Channel 56 was one of the best channels ever.
Miss channel 56.
Oh wow. I remember that star spangled banner.. I loved the way it was warped and old... COOL!!!!

I remembered the waterfalls.
I remember this sign off as well misd those days
I remember this as the sign on with the Rabbi saying the day's prayer.

The old Channel 48 here in Philly, WKBS, here in Philly, used that used the same version of The National Anthem when they signed off back in 1980.
All of the Kaiser and Field stations used the Sierra Club SSB film at one point or another, even KBSC in Los Angeles years after they were sold off.
They rotated these; The others were a Catholic Priest and a Rabbi, as I remember.
I remember the priest.

Can somebody tell me the name of the font used by the former Field Communications stations? Thanks!
Mark Michael Salin Watford.

Channel 56 narrator (but also unseen) Tom Evans stated that Benny Hill considered funnier than Monty Python.

I really have no problem with this at all. I just thought that it was interesting that they had pre-sigin off sermons.
Like 'VintageTelevision,' perhaps?
This is the same version of the national anthem that WOKR (WHAM) 13 Rochester, NY used. :)
Well, I've posted what I have, maybe someone else has more on this subject...
I guess I’ll go to bed now
In my opinion, they should STILL sign off after Midnight.
Everyone to bed!!!
U crazy
Was that a Muslin Sermon in the middle of the sign-off?
Yep - those days were so simple.
A prayer, I'd say. Still, it's the first time I've seen an Islamic religious moment in a signoff - anywhere.
It's not that muslin people make me uncomfortable but why was that done right in the middle of the sign-off?
Hmm. 2:51
@CelesteK yes. muslin.
Im glad we dont do the prayers nonsense anymore. I do miss the Anthem sign-off though
